Sprint HTC Hero :: Screen Freezes And Random Reboot On Phone?
Mar 24, 2010
I'll be on my phone browsing through the net, on my apps etc. Then once I get back to my home screen all of a sudden my screen freezes and the "HTC screen" pops up (same screen when you reboot your phone) and then I will have to wait a minute or two for everything to load up again. I've had my hero since January and this problem recently just began last week. It happens quite often and it's really irritating. I always clear my cache/data/history. Could it perhaps be some of the applications I downloaded from the market causing this?
I rooted a friends phone and when I try to get to the recovery reboot screen it freezes on the HTC screen, I have to remove the battery and boot normally, and it works just fine. I have rooted two other hero's with no problems. I've tried a wipe and doing the process over again and the same thing happened.
Everytime I have to reboot, or if my battery dies, and I charge it and all that, and I press the power button, the screen just freezes at the HTC EVO 4G screen. I have to take out the cover, and pull the battery and by the time I do this 2-3 times, it finally boots correctly. I'm using Fresh 126.96.36.199 alongside netarchy 188.8.131.52 cfs.
A few days ago the GPS notification icon started popping up at the top of my screen at random without me even running an app that requires GPS. I have tried to kill any app that potentially uses GPS with taskiller, disabling GPS all-together, and rebooting my phone to get it to go away. The only temporary solution I have found is to enter and then exit google maps. That works for a little while but then, bam, out of nowhere the little satellite icon appears again. I don't mind if it is just a little glitch and my GPS isn't actually being accessed, but if it is, that is a serious hit to my battery life. I haven't noticed a dramatic change in battery life since it started happening but I do seem to get less time out of the phone. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, is it a big deal and how do you fix it?
I was just curious how often you reboot your phones? Since I've stopped using a task killer and letting android manage things, I've been having to do it twice a day to keep it speedy and usable. Usually in the morning I reboot, read my rss feeds, check this forum & facebook (browser), some emails and some light texting. Once I get to working around 7:30am (I work landscaping) I pop in the earbuds and listen to soma fm with droid live lite till lunch at 11:15. Lunch time I plug in the phone for about 40 minutes to boost up the battery to get me through my music habit for the rest of the workday which ends at 3pm.
I've noticed that if I don't reboot after lunch, my phone is just sluggish and slow as can be. Especially if I've got droid live running and I get a text or an email. I only run two widgets, the "flip clock" and the small style calendar underneath it on my home screen. So I don't think that has much of an effect on my phones performance in the long run. When I was using a task killer, the only time I would reboot was when I woke up in the morning and I was good for the rest of the day. I've been considering running a task killer again, as android doesn't seem to be doing as great of a job managing things as I'd like, but I wanna hear some of your input and experiences first.
Yesterday my HTC Hero frooze up as I was looking through the AP News app. I tried pressing the power and return buttons to get out of it but it wouldn't respond. I ended up letting the battery to dead and then plugged it back in to power up again, allowing the phone to reboot.
My X has already been randomly rebooting at least 3 times since yesterday last one froze the phone and i had to do a battery pull anyone else been expericeing any of this just asking cause i might got a lemon and need to exchange it
I have a launch day EVO, Hardware revision 002, very minimal light leakage, no screen separation, and silver trim battery (if any of that matters). For the past couple of days, I have been experiencing what seems to be a complete lockup of the phone. After around 5 hrs of the phone being on, things start going haywire. At first it would lock up my live background. I switched to a static one to try and narrow it down. Then it was the screen doubling itself (weather widget would repeat on the bottom). A few minutes ago the dialog box that says "Turn Wifi On" stood on and didnt go away. I went into running services and it locked up until it rebooted itself. Ive never rooted my phone, not running a task killer and I only have market apps installed. What the hell is going on? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm thinking its time to factory reset (again).
I purchased this Zync Dual 7 Plus(Haipad HD 7 Zync Edition) (Zync Z930 Plus in the Manual) and became fascinated by the world of Android OS. My problem is I downloaded Chainfire 3D app from Playstore as recommended by my friends. After installing, it require a reboot so I restarted the tablet and then I'm stuck on the boot screen logo. I manage to get to the recovery page using ADB reboot recovery command but my tablet only has a power button. There's no physical volume buttons everywhere I looked so there's no way I can reach the "wipe data/factory reset" option. ADB Devices command can detect the devices but it is giving me weird serial number as 0123456789ABCDEF, Fastboot is not detecting the device. USB Keyboard and touch functions are not responding when I'm in Recovery page.
What I have done so far...
I've read several solutions and one of them is to flash the tablet using the ROM provided by Zync support. DL it and open the RockChip Batch Tool but the tool is not detecting my device so I can't upgrade.
Also DL the LiveSuitPack 1.07 but also, It is not detecting the device and from the instruction given, you need to hold volume button again which I don't have.
My phone unpredictably generates DTMF tones , which is a PITA when calling automated menu systems, as it will get you into menu items which were called by the DTMF tones. This happens for up to about 30 secs into a call.
Is anyone else having this issue where the phone or just sense (is it still even sense?) reboots? I get this and the word "FRESH" pops up while I get the loading wheel and all of my widgets have to re-load.
It takes less than a minute (if it's just the interface and doesn't boot to the HTC screen...), but it's happened a couple of times now when I got an incoming call - and I can't answer the phone. Anyone else getting this?
I've seen threads every phone except Hero. My wife's phone rebboots at will. We will be asleep in the middle of the night and there goes the hero chirp reboot noise. Anybody else have this problem or a cure. Beside another phone.
Is anyone else getting random lockups with CM6? Sometimes it locks up in the camera app, sometimes it locks up in a browser, and various other apps. The only remedy is a battery pull. I LOVE CM6 but these random lockups are getting on my nerves,... I'll track the lockups more closely to see if I can find a pattern or something.
Did a search but did not find anything else that mentions this. I am running stock ROM with no task manager. Over the last week or two each time I power off and then back on I lose random settings and also all my widgets stop working. Today when I power cycled I lost my pattern lock and ring styles, went from vibrate to sound. Last time it was all of my bookmarks...
Anyone else run into this? I am thinking I will restore to factory settings, but figured I would see if anyone else ran into this and got it fixed?
Does anyone else run into the same problem as I do? If my phone dies or I do a reboot I get to the lock screen and it says no signal and does not pick up a cell signal at all. During normal use it said no signal before, but a few seconds later it got a signal. Now it will not get a signal at all and the only way to get a signal again is to do a factory reset. Is the jump to 2.1 supposed to fix all this too?
I have a hero and so does my boyfriend and they both just randomly reboot. Sometimes while we're using them and sometimes they are just sitting on a table and they reboot! Has anyone else had this problem? If so, is there a fix? We are both out of the 30-day time frame but we do have insurance on both.
I have the HTC Hero from Sprint. Great little phone. I'm having issues with texting. Here's my scenario.I receive a text from Facebook stating someone wrote on my wall. The from id is 123456789. I then get a text from a friend George. In the list view of of my texts George's text showing under the Facebook number. When I press on the Facebook name it shows the text from Facebook then from George. If I reply it goes to Facebook not George. It also happens under different users, appears to be very random and is causing issues as I'm trying to quickly reply, forget to check who it's going to, then I text someone something I shouldn't have. Not cool.Any ideas how to fix it? I downloaded Handcent SMS as well and that is having the same issue so it appears to be a root droid issue.
I've notice recently my Hero has been acting up, almost as if it is rebooting. However, I don't believe it is a full reboo, i.e. no sprint logo during boot. Only occurs when exiting out from the internet browser. As soon as you hit the home screen to exit, the phone returns to the white htc load page. It appears like it is the full reboot but it does not move next to the Sprint/Now pages. Next the desktop appears but it is grayed out (i.e. my desktop still shows but grayed out, no icons or widgets showen) and the spinning loading icon shows up. Once it finishes loading things appear back to normal. Almost makes me wonder if this reboot is more like sense rebooting and not the entire phone/system. Not sure if this is possible but I want to get anyone's thoughts and if anyone else had expirenced this.
I am using a CDMA HTC Hero (sprint). I have rooted the device via Universal Androot which worked flawlessly. I am now trying to flash a custom rom, which is already loaded onto my SD Card (Red Dawn). Here in lies my problem:
Using Rom Manager, I flashed the ClockworkMod Recovery successfully but when i chose to ""Reboot from Recovery" the phone gets hung up at the white HTC boot screen indefinitely until I battery pull.
I have tried many, many different approaches and am now seeking some desperate advise as to how to get into recovery mode so i may flash the new rom. I have tried to enter recovery manually (vol down/pwr on) only for it to get hung on the HTC screen as soon as I chose recovery. I have tried to "Flash Alternative Rom" and the re-flashing the ClockworkMod Recovery all to no avail.
My Dinc literally just rando-booted and when it started back up my signal strength jumped from 90dbm to 72dbm from 1-2 bars to 3-4! No idea what just happend but was curious to see if this happened to anyone else. BTW I'm in PHX, tempe area!
I have now had my X10 for a week and am quite happy with it in the main. The only problem i seem to have, is it sometimes reboots when i try to use the camera. It first did it before i had any marketplace apps on, so i don't think its due to something i installed. It happens when i try to open the camera, and it has also happened when the shopsavvy app tried to start the camera.
I have recently upgraded from an Samsung Instinct to an HTC Hero. I am currently on my second phone. The first one had a major OS glitch. As the service tech stated it was possessed. I am into my new replacement for about 2 weeks now. Currently, I am having horrible luck with the phone. The keyboard lags, the phone auto dials random numbers while scrolling the phone book and today while talking to my wife it made a conference call to my wife. Also the weather feature on the clock won't update the location unless I manually refresh it. These are just a few of the things I have noticed. I currently am running advanced app killer to save on battery life and the phone is up to date on the software. My brother has an HTC Touch through T-Mobile and it rocks and I have other friends with android phones and they don't experience the same issues.
I originally posted this in the CM 6 thread, but after doing a nandroid restore and also flashing to Fresh 2.4 I'm still having this issue. I rebooted my phone this morning (was running CM6 6.1.0 RC1) and ever since the reboot I cannot connect to any google services and the data connection when connecting to webpages is hit or miss. When I try to connect to my google account on the initial setup for CM6 and for Fresh 2.4 I get the error: 'cant establish a reliable data connection to the server'. I have good to great signal strength yet terrible connection. Would updating my radio help? After doing some googling someone suggested updating my profile through the system settings. Can I do that with a rooted phone or do I have to flash back to an official update?
