Sprint HTC Hero :: Finding CDMA Rooting Forum - Firmware 2.1

Oct 3, 2010

I'm interested in reading about rooting my phone, it's a Sprint CMDA Hero. But, it looks like this is the GSM Hero rooting forum, but, where is the All things root forum for the CDMA Hero? I have the 2.1 firmware, so, is it even possible to root this phone now? I know when I first bought it because they updated it in the store, it couldn't be rooted because they did some OTA update, but, was wondering if that has changed.

Sprint HTC :: Rooting A Non Sprint CDMA Hero

Jul 29, 2010

I've been lurking for a while. I seem to be having trouble rooting my phone, all the one click programs for the CDMA Hero seem to be only for sprint builds, I got my phone through a smaller network (CREDO Mobile) and every root program I've tried seems to fail.

Sprint HTC Hero :: How To Root Sprint 2.1 Release For CDMA Hero?

Jul 7, 2010

I recently rooted my phone and was wondering how to install custom themes and lock screens for my hero. I am new to this as the title implies, so a link/instructions on how to install/create these would be what I'm looking for. I also am looking for solutions that do not need to install a new ROM as I just want to mod the current one that I have since i haven't found one I like. I rooted the 2.27.651.5 official sprint software with the instructions from the xda forum here: [GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero - xda-developers.

Sprint HTC :: Simple Way To Root Hero CDMA

Oct 2, 2010

I just downloaded a simple file and uploaded it with Astro to root my phone before I ever put a custom ROM on it. I'm just simply trying to find a root for my friends phone that doesn't involve needing to make a nandroid backup ect. like I did with my Ally. Does anyone have a simple root file that I can upload on my friend's Hero? He has the 2.1 update... also does anyone know of any custom ROM's for his phone that have the 2.2 update? If so, then I will go through the trouble to make his recovery, backup and flash the ROM (which should already have the root), but if not, then it's only worth getting a simple root.

Sprint HTC Hero :: MoDaCo Custom ROM For CDMA

Jan 13, 2010

You can now create a customised ROM containing only the parts you required - click here to read more about the MoDaCo Custom Custom ROM online kitchen!

MCR now optionally includes Wavesecure in ROM, allowing you to lock / locate / wipe your device remotely in the event of loss and be notified if the SIM is changed. The application cannot be uninstalled by a thief and we are actively working with Wavesecure to ensure that in a forthcoming release, your settings will survive a hard reset!

This ROM is based on the updated 'MR' ROM release series (together with my own optimisations) for the best possible performance! The ROM is packaged as a core version with optional add on packs.

Included in the 'core'

- Built with my new MCR build process which reduces size and boost speed of the ROM
- Rooted with 'adb remount' permission and superuser APK
- A2SD included (fully automatic - thanks cyanogen!) - create a EXT2 partition as your second partition to use. dalvik-cache remains on device.
- Added Jbed Java
- Added Dropbear SSH running by default, check 'About' screen for password (port 2222). You can now remove this by running /system/bin/removedropbear.sh
- Added Notes app from Dragon
- Added Spare Parts (run it and switch the 2 animation types to 'fast' for an even better experience!)
- Added WiFi Status indicator, with kind permission of Andrew Schwimmer
- Added busybox 1.15.3 with Droid Explorer support
- Added nano 2.09 - text editor for use in shell mode
- Added parted and sqlite tools
- Added terminfo and settings to boot.img to allow nano etc. use
- Added files required for Debian linux including loxley's updated bootdeb script
- Added all 4 available HTC widgets
- Moved Quickoffice to data partition to allow easy uninstall
- Moved Google Maps and Google Voice Search to data partition to allow easy update
- Deleted 'Learn More' application
- Silenced boot sound (it's still there and can be reactivated with a file edit)
- You can now check your MoDaCo Custom ROM (MCR) version from the about menu

Included in main 'enhanced' add on pack

- Added Business Card Scanner
- Added 'Plurk' client
- Added WAP browser

Other optional add on packs (apply as normal update zips)

- 'WaveSecure' add on pack (puts Wavesecure in ROM - it is no longer in core)
- 'Boot Sounds' add on pack (restores boot sounds)
- 'Hebrew Fonts' add on pack (installs hebrew fonts)

Recommended applications (available from the market)

- More Locale for setting non english Locales

Downloads

11/Jan 2.0 - MoDaCo Custom ROM for Sprint CDMA Hero - Android @ MoDaCo

ENSURE YOU DO A NANDROID BACKUP SO YOU CAN 'ROLL BACK' IF REQUIRED!

Please note that first boot may take a little while, especially if you have a lot of apps on your A2SD partition. Be patient! If you want a real clean start or you have issues with your existing A2SD installed apps when you boot, you need to wipe your EXT2 partition on SD too by executing 'adb shell rm -r /system/sd/app', 'adb shell rm -r /system/sd/app-private' and 'adb shell reboot'

The ROM is in an update.zip format for installation via the custom recovery image.

For the complete newbies, these are the steps you need to take with a 'virgin' Hero:

- Download and install (via rooting) the patched recovery image (step by step guide to follow)
- Download this custom ROM, and copy it to your SD card
- Enter the recovery image (if you're not in it already) by powering on while pressing 'home'
- Select 'nandroid backup' from the menu to do a backup
- If you copied the custom rom as update.zip, select 'apply sdcard:update.zip', else select the option below.
- all done

Feedback / feature requests welcome! This ROM is posted in multiple places - although I try to provide support everywhere the ROM is posted, of course you will receive the quickest response at MoDaCo.

Finally, if you like the MoDaCo Custom ROMs, consider supporting MoDaCo by visiting the subscriptions page and upgrading your account.

Sprint HTC Hero : Change CDMA Version To GSM?

Mar 27, 2010

I know this is a rather odd question, but, I know that on the damageless rom, it defaults to locate for GSM Radio Towers. Now, I know there is two HTC Hero devices, The Eris (GSM Version) and the Hero (CDMA Version), however the ability to search for different towers in the Damageless rom has me intrigued on if it is possible at all.

Why I ask is, I am going out of the country, specifically to the carribean islands and mexico. I am wondering if it is at all possible to use it like that. I really doubt it because I don't think that the CDMA version is backwards compatible with the GSM version, but I thought I might as well ask.

Sprint HTC Hero : Disable CDMA Radio / Way To Fix

Mar 2, 2010

I recently purchased a Sprint HTC Hero, updated to 1.56 and it still has horrendous battery life. I charged it to 100%, unplugged it, didn't touch it once and 4 hours later the battery was almost dead. After troubleshooting I think that the ZERO cellular reception I get in my home is the culprit. I believe that the phone is constantly searching for service and causing a battery drain. The HTC Sense widget only turns off the Cellular DATA, but not the actually radio. I would like to be able to leave WiFi on (i use Google Voice SMS at home) and disable the CDMA Radio alltogether.. is there a way?

Dec 6, 2009

As we call know, our Hero (at the moment at least) runs Android 1.5. Also, it WILL be getting Eclair, which from what I've heard has native CDMA support? What, doest that mean 1.5 did not have CMDA support?

What can we expect from an OS that has native CDMA support? Does it have anything to do with the phone's software performance? I'm just a little confused on this, and if someone couldnt shed some light on it that would be very nice...

Sprint HTC Hero :: Online Kitchen For MoDaCo Custom ROM CDMA

Jan 13, 2010

The Beta version of the MoDaCo Custom Custom ROM 2.0 for CDMA Hero online kitchen is now available!

The online kitchen is currently only available to my MoDaCo premium members (those who have signed up to MoDaCo Ad Free or MoDaCo Plus) as it is not yet running on an infrastructure that can support a huge number of users. This will be the case for the foreseeable future as the kitchen system is developed.

With that said, for those who can test the kitchen, enjoy! I've had this vision for a long time, so it's exciting to see the pieces falling together - both here and in the Android 'scene' - to make it happen!

This technology will be coming to other ROMs and will also be available for other ROM creators to use via our Chef's Team.
