Samsung I7500 :: Galaxo Cupcake And Firmware Version

Mar 10, 2010

I've installed galaxo (galaxhero to be precise) for quite a while now and it's been awesome. Only thing is, my Chinese ID3 tags come out as gibberish, I think it's 'cause of the II5 firmware. I've read threads about flashing to II5 before installed galaxo, but since updated versions have been coming out, I just wanted to find out. Is galaxo strictly only for II5? Meaning it isn't backward NOR forward compatible? My gibberish ID3 tags are really bugging me.

Samsung I7500 :: Cupcake 1.5 To Be Last Version For Galaxy

Nov 4, 2009

Taken out from android.hdblog.it (translated), Nov 04 (Source):

Unfortunately, the network appeared rumors that Samsung would indicate that the Galaxy will not be upgrading to the new OS 1.6, nor even to Eclair Donut 2.0. The news is also reflected in the information that we have in the office for several weeks. The thing is still not official and the hope remains. Probably will receive a further update for this device but always Cupcake 1.5. In fact besides Spica Samsung is working on two other terminals for the European market and the same will be updated to Spica Eclair 2.0 by early 2010 (again according to the rumors).

And some good news:

Among the bad news but it comes a nice .... Given the success of the rom for Galaxy created exclusively by drakaz for HDblog, we decided to give a new rom, high performance, with an entirely new graphics and we hope you enjoy it. We show you a taste of what will be the dominant colors ... Soon you'll get more

Samsung Galaxy I7500 : Can Flash Galaxo 1.6.2 Or GAOSP Without ODIN Flashing Or Updating My Firmware To 1.6

Apr 23, 2010

Alright this may have been asked a few times, or maybe it could not of been asked. I just can't find the thread related to answering this question.
Okay so my question is, can I flash Galaxo 1.6.2 or GAOSP "without" ODIN flashing or updating my firmware to 1.6? and not then what consequences would occur if I don't flash firmware update before GALAXO 1.6.2 flash. My phone firmware version is I7500ZHJA1 and I believe that is the latest firmware for my region which is still Android 1.5.

Samsung Galaxy I7500 :: How To Add Locales To Galaxo 1.6.3.3?

Jun 25, 2010

Been using Galaxo 1.6.3.3 for quite some time now and it's fast, stable and tweakable. Only thing that lacks is the support of Dutch locales. Tried the app MoreLocale 2 however this only changes the language of the homescreen menu. Settings e.g. remain English. In XXJC2 Dutch locales are included so I was wondering if it's possible to copy them to Galaxo 1.6.3.3. Anyone knows how to do this? Seems like some Tai managed to install Tai fonds by replacing Sans Droid in system/fonts. Don't think this adds languages though.

Samsung Galaxy I7500 :: Requirements For Galaxo

Jul 2, 2010

Are there any requirements for flashing the i7500 to galaxo? Cause I can't use the recovery (any version) to flash the galaxo to my phone. Recovery hasn't any response on operations wipe, flash, rooting, fixing permission etc.Anyway, I found I can do fixing permission with adb command to execute the script "fix_permissions.sh" in the /tmp/RECTOOLS in recovery mode.Unfortunately, fixing the permission can not help for the wiping and flashing operations. the operations don't work also.I have also tried to flash by using "flash_image" command in /tmp/RECTOOLS, but I can't identify the flashing partition, the following is the result of df command.

Samsung Galaxy I7500 :: Putty To Galaxo Over USB

Oct 16, 2009

So I noticed galaxo is using a colour term profile which is really nice, except for us poor windows users You could of course enable SSH, reboot, and turn wifi on and then ssh in using putty, but that's not really that convenient. Especially if you dont like to leave ssh running.Instead you can run dropbear manually and redirect the port using adb, then putty in directly.

Samsung Galaxy I7500 : Using Launcher 2.1 In Galaxo 1.6.2

Apr 9, 2010

There is a version of Launcher 2.1 which is available to donut and works on Galaxo 1.6.x. You can read about it here:
Android Launcher Modification

It is now available on the android market! Just search for adw, and install. As galax0 keeps the Launcher.apk in memory, you'll want to get rid of the Advanced Launcher and replace it with this one.

I used the following adb commands after installing from the market:
adb remount
adb shell
su
cp /system/app/Launcher.apk /system/app/Launcher.bak

reboot

################################################## #############

Old instructions, in case you download a non-market zipped version:

Steps to install on Galaxy:
1) Make sure you have Galaxo 1.6.x. I used newest recovery, 4.6.2, although I doubt it matters.
2) Put the zip on the internal sdcard.
3) Reboot recovery
4) Perform a Nandroid Backup (very important!)
5) Perform the fix permissions operation.
6) Apply the zip you downloaded using the "apply any zip from SD" option.
7) Reboot.

Samsung Galaxy I7500 : Galaxo 1.6.3.3 Is Out - Tetherwifi

May 30, 2010

New version for Galaxo : 1.6.3.3 ! Whats up ? TetherWifi is back !

Sometimes, we seek for something complicated.. kernel, drivers, device and the solution is very simple : firmware.

Since Donut, Samsung had removed ad-hoc support, not from kernel, or drivers, or Android itslef, but only from the firmware, named rtecdc.bin. Cupcake version of the firmware work fine for our use, so, why not using it on Donut release ? Thats done now.

How to install tetherwifi on Galaxo 1.6.X ?

1) Manuel way Take rtecdc.bin from a cupcake release (official or not) Push it on your device, named as /system/etc/rtecdc_adhoc.bin<LI sizset="11" sizcache="5">Download and install the last version of tetherwifi, included Galaxy support, and third party firmware support, 2.0.2, here : http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/.
Enjoy TetherWifi !

2) Recommended : Automatic update to Galaxo 1.6.3.3 from Galaxo 1.6.3.2 (no need to wipe, no need to reinstall, just a patch) <LI sizset="12" sizcache="5">Download the patch here : [url]?file=Galaxo_V1.6.3.3_PATCH_from_1.6.3.2.zip
Reboot in recovery mode
Choose Apply any zip from sd
Choose Galaxo_V1.6.3.3_PATCH_from_1.6.3.2.zip
Apply update
Reboot
Enjoy TetherWifi !

2) Full 1.6.3.3 update

Samsung I7500 : Galaxo Or 2.0 - Little Lag While User Input

Jan 13, 2010

After using 2.0 from mustymod for few times/days, I have thinking that update to 2.0 maybe not best idea for me.

2.0 from mustymod has better responsive for user's operation, less lag felling. better google apps and later android apps. adyno show around 130ms. But smooth felling may changed after full function come out, since it means more service will running background.

Galaxo that i used till now is little lag while user input. outdated google apps. adyno show around 220ms.
But it can be improved if Drakaz keep updating it with new idea(maybe from xda). and it did have full functions. My daily used apps & data is on it now, and some of them can not running under 2.0. udpate galaxo will keep my data going, no needs to wipe/reset.

My conclusion is, while Drakaz trying to modding 2.0, I wish he can find out why 2.0 is running better on Galaxy and porting it back to Galaxo. My wish is keep Galaxo going till 2.0/2.1 stable & more market apps support it.

Samsung Galaxy I7500 : Using Connectify And Galaxo 1.6.3.3

Jul 26, 2010

Im using a mobile broadband (USB Stick Form)

I tried use connectify version 2 to form a wireless access hub.
I had no issues in forming an access point but had problems in accessing the network from the Phone running Galaxo 1.6.3.3.

Does Galaxo 1.6.3.3 support WPA2-PSK protocol.

Because Connectify only creates networks having WPA2-PSK protocols which the phone has difficulty in connecting to.

Anyone successfully connectify and galaxo 1.6 may accordingly advice.

Also any other software...which may help me share my mobile broadband on my phone.

Samsung Galaxy I7500 :: No Full Market With Galaxo 1.6.3.4

Sep 10, 2010

I installed Galaxo 1.6.3.4 a couple of days ago and since I'm a happy person! It's really a different phone.

Today when reading an article on the new google maps innovation (Walking Navigation, Street View), which are available with Google Maps 4.5, I tried finding them on the market and couldn't. I then realized I can't see any paid apps on the market after my Galaxo installation.
(I also noticed that the Google maps version with galaxo is 3.3)

So I've got two questions:
1) How can I "free" my market?

2) How can I install Google Maps 4.5 with the two gadgets above?

If music app annoys you after unplugging headset just delete it.

Music.odex

Samsung Galaxy I7500 : Themes - Working In Galaxo 1.6.3

Just wondering if anyone has any idea about themes with Galaxo 1.6.3? I grabbed a theme from this site (which has a GREAT tutorial by the way), but whenever i try to install one, my phone will not boot following the update. I get a similar thing to if you have not restored GAPPS where the screen will just sit on the boot screen but go no further. I tried restoring GAPPS to see if that was somehow the issue, but not luck.

Samsung Galaxy I7500 : Theme - GalaxOrbit For Galaxo 1.6.3.x

Jun 15, 2010

Well, there haven't been a lot of themes posted here, so I decided to share mine with others who might not know how to do so or have my awesome photoshop skills. (isn't Android about customization?)

New release (August 24th)! There's no big change, except that the Power Control Widget acted weird when you pressed them (it changed color, but not really correctly, it's a detail. Now fixed.) Also I removed the background for the application drawer, because I now use ADW launcher and the tray is somewhat transparent.

Anyway, I didn't make this theme for others, I made it for myself. I didn't plan on sharing it, and it's in no way a complete makeover for your Galaxy. I wanted a few things to be different, so I changed them, and I constantly mess around with this theme.

What I use: Galaxo 1.6.3.3 with Helix on the screenshots, I now use Galaxo 1.6.3.4 and ADW launcher from the market (with root explorer I went and deleted launcher.apk, so I get all my memory. Ask if you have problems).

DO A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST!

Note: To install Helix launcher, download this one, get into the recovery, fix package permissions, apply any zip and select HELIX.zip (if you download from the market, your phone will be slow: the original launcher is locked into memory, the one I gave you will overwrite it. I recommend using ADW though.)

GalaxOrbit-1.3

How to install:

-Download the GalaxOrbit-1.3.zip and extract it.
-Download and install Metamorph on the market (there's a free version).
-Run metamorph once.
-Place the extracted theme folder in the new "Androidtheme" folder of your SD card.
-Run metamorph
-When the check is over, select the bottom right option (Existing themes), and select GalaxOrbit-1.3
-In there, select GalaxOrbit-1.3.xml and then the bottom right option (Apply all). Answer yes to the prompts they give you, and there you go!

Screenshots (the Google logo in the search bar is now back to its original color):

FAQ:

What are the changes?
The power control widget is now transparent, same goes for part of the music widget. The notification tray is now transparent too, with some lightning effects. The application tray background now has a texture (it's plain dark with Helix launcher). The Google icon in the search bar now has colors (NOT ANYMORE, check edit at the bottom), and the icon for the stock music and video apps were changed. You can see all those changes in the four screenshots. The beach background was added too.

Why GalaxOrbit? That's a stupid name.
No reason, it's one of the first words starting with O that came to my mind (it was almost called GalaxOhMyGod, GalaxOrbit doesn't sound too stupid now, eh?)

What's the time widget?
You can see it in the screenshot where the app tray is opened, it's called Digital Clock widget

Why did you start with the 1.1 version? Why not 1.0?
I started with 0.1 up to 1.1 and then I decided to release it. I tested many things during the 10 versions, such as: new launcher icon, transparent Google search, icons for the power widget control, new battery indicator, more wallpapers, etc etc. I decided that this was simple and nice-looking, so I went back to most of the stock stuff.

That's it. I don't expect many people to post and even less to use this, but I think it looks nice, and it might raise the awareness that you can do this yourself and it's REALLY easy. No need to code, to use ADB, the only thing you need is a program like winrar to open the .apk files (apk = zip) and then you can directly modify the icons, as they are simple png pictures. What I did was take an existing theme (GalaxAir, by Korline), and check out how it's done. I was surprised by its simplicity.

EDIT: GalaxOrbit 1.1 was removed and replaced with 1.2. I don't think anyone used it, but if you did, I suggest a Nandroid restore and using 1.2 instead. With 1.1, I would always get force close when installing an app from the market (probably because the Google apps were modified), so I removed the colors from the Google in the search widget. Going from 1.1 to 1.2 won't do the job, as Metamorph can't remove files, and I didn't include the original picture in 1.2 just in case it would do the same thing. 1.1 link was removed.
