Samsung Moment :: Completely Disable Mobile Network
Jun 7, 2010
Does anyone know how to completely disable the mobile network on the Moment? I need to so I can use it for my Battle.net mobile authenticator while I am using my fiance's new Samsung Reclaim for a month (to get the upgrade price on it) and she has my Hero. Basically, anytime I need data on it, I want to use WiFi but if I leave it on it can and will probably mess up calls on the Hero. My Hero has a nice little check box to disable the mobile network, but the Moment doesn't.

I'm hopefully getting this phone soon, but I have a quick question before I do. I'd be using the Hero without a data plan for at least the first few months, therefore I was wondering if it is possible to disable all forms of mobile internet. I still want WiFi, but nothing I will be charged for such as GSM/GPRS etc. I'm sure this will be possible but I want to be sure before I buy. And what's battery life like?

I love my aria, i got it 9/29/10, for free from best buy because my contract expired... but ive already used 20MB and i only bought a 200MB plan... i might go to 2 gigs, but for an alternate, since my billing cycle ends the 28th of every month... if i disable application syncing, and mobile network from the hold menu... can i connect to my home wifi network, and go on the internet from there without that using any of my data plan?

I am looking for an app that automatically switches off the cellular radio when wifi is connected and switches it back on when wifi loses connection. I'm not talking about the APN data connection which already does that, I'm talking about the regular cell phone connection.
According to my lack of results searching through the forums, Market, and Google, such an app does not exist yet. Currently the best app I've found to do anything remotely like this is the Airplane Mode Wi-Fi app, which is a manual switch and a slightly cumbersome one at that, not nearly good enough for how often I go in and out of wifi.
The reason I ask for this is because I use Google Voice with SIP and a prepaid plan. I want to use SIP as much as possible to save my prepaid minutes for when I really need them. When wifi and cell are both connected with Sipdroid running and I receive a call, they both ring at the same time. To be sure I don't accidentally use prepaid, I usually reject the call and call back over SIP, which is slightly annoying for both me and the caller.

How can I tell when the Moment is completely done charging? I use a wall charger. When I plug it in. The screen lights up. Phone charging. Seconds later. The screen goes blank.. I have to manually hit the volume key or end key to see the charge complete notification on the screen. I charge it for about 4 hours. Isnt it suppose to light up on its own with the charge complete? Do I have a defective MOMENT?

I have tried to disable swype by unchecking it in settings, but it always turns itself back on. Why does it do this, and is there a way to permanently keep it unchecked that I'm not seeing?

I have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.
The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".
Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?

Even when you remove the little back rubber/plastic cover for the USB connection plug, it still stays attached to the phone and dangles. I am thinking of completely removing it from the phone. Can I do so without damaging it? Can I re-attach it if I change my mind later?

Sprint Nextel Corporation - Investor Relations - RSS Content. Kudos to Sprint, this is coming just in time for the March Madness, which is great! I hope this has been tested for enough viewer capacity because it sure will be tested by every Sprint TV customer. I am watching Lafayette v. Lehigh game live. I can definitely wait for Sprint to prepare another app to replace NFL Mobile Live for before the Football games start. Hope this is the beginning for a long season of good news from Sprint, Android 2.1 should be around the corner.

Anyone know how I can disable the sound/alert made when the Samsung Fascinate loses its phone network connection? I get little to no reception at my house and thus the phone is always beeping that it has lost reception, then gained it then lost it again - it drives me crazy. Usually I have to resort to muting the phone altogether but then I forget to unmute in the morning when I leave the house. I called Samsung and they said to try to turn off the emergency call option saying it was some workaround. It was already off on my phone and didn't help. I've looked all over the sounds etc. settings to no avail?

I have an AT&T Captivate and it has been working fine until yesterday. All of a sudden I can't connect to the internet and no 3G icon. I have restarted the phone, pulled the battery, put my sim card in my brothers captivate and it works fine on his. After the phone restarts the 3G icon will appear for maybe 1 minute and I connect for that short time then it disappears and no more 3G. If I switch to wifi I can connect just fine.

Like the title says, what is everyone's signal strength (settings/about phone/status) and have you been experiencing any mobile network issues at this level?
My signal hovers between -96 dBm and -101 dBm and have had network problems beyond belief. Moto droid sitting directly beside my fascinate typically is ten points better at -86 dBm through -91 dBm with zero network problems.

I've had the Moment for about 1 1/2 months. At times, it seems as though the joystick is "stuck" - it moves the cursor all around (sort of like the center mouse on a laptop). Sometimes it will move around the screen, move from one screen to another, move the cursor when typing, etc... It makes the phone unusable. I've looked in a bunch of forums and haven't seen anyone else complain. I normally have to remove the battery and boot it back up and everything starts to work again. I had a zag on it, but removed it thinking it might be the problem (it wasn't). The Sprint store was zero help (it didn't happen while there). Is there a way to disable the joystick? I'm tempted to just take the phone apart and remove it.

Anyone know how to disable SMS threading on the Moment? I was able to do it via registry tom-foolery on my last phone (Palm Treo Pro), but I don't know where to start on this Android phone. I like having each SMS be its own little thing, not a string of SMS's.

Just downloaded Tunewiki - not for the lyrics/content, but because the interface and widget are really slick.
Problem I'm having is that the default music player app likes to compete with it. When I use Bluetooth (Ford Sync) the music player app likes to start automatically.
Anyone know how to tell it to ignore the music app? I know it can't be deleted.

After reading the forums and changing settings and doing a few battery cycles, I had been getting really good battery life of at least two days on medium usage and 3 days on light with my connection not having any real issues. Then, 2 days ago I installed weatherbug and beautiful widgets. While I enjoy both, it seems like my network connection goes down fairly often now and I need to turn on wifi to check email or do anything else web related. Has anyone else lost their network connection and been able to narrow down the cause? I'm hoping it's not one of these two, but I can't imagine what else it would be.

is there a way to disable this charging notification feature? it wasn't a big deal in the beginning, but since i need to charge my phone constantly to last the entire day, it has become an issue. I know I can turn my notification off or change it to vibration but then I'll miss all my alerts and reminders from other apps. any apps out there can simply turn this feature off?

I seem to be seeing an issue with the data network access on the EVO. When it happens none of my applications get internet aceess and my mobile network status says "turning on". The only way I've found to fix it is to pull the battery. Any one else seeing this? If so is there a better fix than pulling the battery?

My eris has always has pretty alright battery life, what I would expect out of a smartphone, if unplugged at 9AM it usually was running on its last leg around midnight. I've had it for over 5 months now, I've always had it activated on alltel, I installed the 2.1v3 leak before the official OTA was out and just lately it seems like there something very wrong with my battery life...
If I unplug my phone at 9AM within the past week and occasionaly check and respond to a text message, my battery had been down to almost 30% by NOON... what?..
I have noticed that if I disable Mobile Network (3g/1x data), the thing lasts all day and some... If I turn mobile network ON, I can't see that I have any network traffic or any apps running in the background that are syncing data at all... I've had google account sync mess up on me before and have to reset my google account because it gets stuck in a syncing loop, but its not doing that, already checked. Very weird.
Anyone thing it could be something wrong in my ##PROGRAM#/##778# provisioning menu, maybe something got changed?.. Maybe it could be do to Alltel's AT&T merger that's happening right now, maybe some 3G tower's radios are turned off or something...

But I find myself endlessly annoyed by the placement of the Voice Control button on the side of the phone. This button's placement is absolutely perfect for accidentally pushing it with your thumb or fingers when you're on a call, or when holding the phone in either portrait or landscape mode. I dont use voice control. Even if I did, I'd want it to turn on when I decided to use it. I've searched the Phone Settings; I've searched these forums; I've searched the Android Marketplace. Short of cracking the case and physically removing the button
