Looking at all the pros and cons from froyo got me wondering, how important is it to put the apps on the memory card? I was actually curious about saving some items in the phones internal memory, ie movies, etc.View 14 Replies View Related

I did a few searches and couldn't find anything, so I decided to be lazy and start a new post on this. Has anyone found an application that will move all applications to the SD card to save phone space and speed everything else up?View 16 Replies View Related
I bought an Android phone a couple of months ago, a Samsung Galaxy S, and it's been nothing but frustration. There's dozens of problems with the software/firmware and I was lied to by the network I bought it from. That and any attempt to buy a memory card for it yields a fake.I bought it to replace an aging old phone, and also to be an MP3 player.Allshare doesn't work. It will stream videos, but if I want to use to stream music it crashes each and every time without fail. It's as bad now as it was when I got it.It only has 16GB of memory, so it can't as it stands replace my MP3 player, I'll get a 32GB memory card for it sooner or later, and that will replace my 30GB MP3 player.I've tried 3 apps for playing music on it, the default one, Museek, and MixZing. They're all awful, and not designed with the way I play my files in mind. I sort them by file structure Artist/Album/files and I navigate to the files and expect to be able to play all. All three of those music players seem to want to use playlists. Are there any good music players I could get instead of them? I managed to delete all the MP3s on the phone half an hour ago when I tried to get the default music player to do anything like what I was trying to tell it.
I have a server set up in the house using Windows Home Server which has all the storage for the house on it. It can serve music pretty well - my main PC streams from it flawlessly with Foobar. My Android phone seems to have no way at all to do it short of Allshare, which is crap. I'm not interested in streaming it through Windows Media Player 12 which is what I'm forced to do with Allshare. If I could point the phone at a networked directory then that'd be fine... assuming there's a music player out there that actually works.Add to that the sheer stupidity of google calendar having no way to default to gmail calendar rather than the internal one on the phone, and no fix months later.I was going to have a bath tonight, and I thought I'd try again to get music working on the phone across the network. It's now 2 fucking hours later and I'm no further forward. The bath is cold though.
i have often experienced this issue. after dialing any phone number and trying to save that number from call log to existing contact it is not working. Means, it tries to open the contact but giving error. did any one has experienced this issue and like to hear your views or corrective measures.View 1 Replies View Related
All the specs posted on the blogs say the galaxy phones are "expandable to 32GB". Does this mean you can add 16GB card to get a total of 32GB, or that you can add 32GB for a total of 48GB? The way it's been worded on all the sites I get the impression that the max SD card you can put in is 16GB but that seems silly. Can anyone confirm? I'm looking at the US versions, most likely the AT&T Captivate.View 2 Replies View Related
I am unsing KIES to save my Calendar and Contacts data on my P C to backup this data. But this does not work with my Memos and my Messages (SMS). Does anybody know why? Probably my Memos and my messages are not saved on the mobile phone but on the sim card?View 1 Replies View Related
I search around and did not find a thread on my subject? But for the love of me and can not find where it gives you the option to Check off box, to save to SD card? I thought it was when you were on the web? Can you please let me know where is located, also do you all think is necessary to have that checked on for when apps are added to the phone?View 4 Replies View Related

When I use the facebook app to take photos and upload, they load fine. But I can't see the photos saved on the phone at all.
It seems like taking the photo via the facebook app does not save the photo to the sd card?
Anyone know if this is true or if the photos are saved somewhere on the phone?
Can't figure this one out. I have an SD card in the phone and pics loaded on it from my computer. No problem there.
PROBLEM: The pics I take WITH the phone camera just go somewhere IN the phone - NOT to my SD card. I can't find any option in the pics to "save to SD card" or anything like that. I had the phone updated the other day and it wiped all the pics I had taken with the phone - but not the SD ones. Now I have more photos and no way to save them to the SD card?
Well for me Android really fell off the edge of a cliff in the last 6mts as a "single platform across all devices". Anyway whilst we whinge in other threads and some kind souls try and fix it I thought might be good to have a thread for Apps which DO work well in Android after all wherever we are or aren't in the development curve the user experience can be really transformed by a neat App. As well as the old favorites I came across recently:
[1.5/K4] Speaker Shake really neat you pick up the phone shake it and it answers a call with the speaker phone on Dolphin Browser - haven't succeed out the really neat gesture controls yet but do like how it downloads you tubes no prob for viewing when off line.
Hi, I am new to this forum. I can assume this question was asked earlier. Can someone explain how to make Java applications run in my Galaxy S?View 5 Replies View Related
I've been using JPA/JPP/JP4 with voodoo lagfix 5 pre6 for a few days now, and it's been working great... except for one thing. There is no lag while opening applications and stuff, but there is some stuttering while scrolling left/right on home screen, or up/down in menu... it's hardly noticeable, but still annoys me. Quadrant is giving me the same results as when i first flashed voodoo. Noticed one thing also, when i scroll down my notification bar it just doesn't drop as smooth as it was before, but just hangs at some point and then continues. I really can notice even a slightest change in performance, and i read that using voodoo wont cause any performance degradation.
Should i reflash my stock kernel and flash voodoo snapshot?
coming from a BB Curve, you can email yourself ring tones or email them to a friend from your device. I tried to email myself a ring tone on my Fascinate and it comes through, gives you the option to preview it, but no option to save it to the sd card. Does anyone know how to do this? I ask because I have friends that swap ring tones around and it is now impossible to do this for me.View 2 Replies View Related

On my 2nd Android phone now, as I've just upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S from my previous HTC Hero. Love the Galaxy S to bits, but was wondering what I do about some of the old apps on my old phone? Like World War for example, is there anyway of continuing the account on the new phone? Or do I have to start a new game?
Also, the HTC had a really good weather widget where it used to auto update with weather about the location you were currently at. I think it was a HTC thing, as I can't find anything that does the same as this for the Samsung, you can only store certain locations.
I'm a newbie on smartfones and had spent a few days adding useful apps to my Galaxy S. File management and, file transfer applications to wireless link to my laptop followed by the transfer of all my work presentations (powerpoint) and lecture notes. All worked fine until today. Now, my device seems to have lost all the downloaded and installed apps (leaving gaps on the desktop). It has also discarded the image I had chosen for my screen background, and I can't see an icon to go to the Android store. Finally: on one of the screens I have the message "Problem loading widget". That might be connected to the problem that Android Market has completely disappeared. How do I get that back!! It's important. My transferred files are still sitting in folders in DCIM so that's good. but none of the special applications are visible. Can someone give an opinion on this. Has something taken place online with Samsung that has put my system back to its out-of-box state.View 4 Replies View Related
Very simple question but I can't work it out.
On the Galaxy S when I first went to 'applications' it would list all of the applications in a grid form, however for some reason it now has them in a list form.
How do I change it back?
I'm new to the forums. Just got a Samsung Moment and love it. Just switched from ATT to Sprint. I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I want to be able to either save a text thread or be able to save them on the memory card to back them up. I have a single text thread that I need to keep that has over 400 texts in it. I would like to be able to forward them to my email address or put them on the memory card and save them.View 4 Replies View Related
Is there a way to re-arrange the applications list in grid view in alphabetical order?
If I switch to "list view", they are in alphabetical order, but in grid view, they are not. I could not find a way to do it.
A few days ago out of no where all the apps started auto closing as soon as i opened them and then both the menu and back touch buttons lit up and the screen went black. I held the power down till it rebooted only to get and error with com.android.calendar even tho I never use the app. When it finish's booting none of my installed apps are showing. The first time it happened with com.android.app and I did a full wipe and factory reset and just reinstalled everything.
Ideally I don't want to system reset to factory settings again and lose all my files and notes that i copied back on to the phone 2days ago. Please note I have tried clearing the data for the calendar app in settings -> apps and i cleared the calendar back up. My problem is that none of my installed apps are showing. (Update) I also cant reinstall or update apps due to a Installation error - Insufficient storage. But there's room on both SD cards. I also set 850mb for apps when i did the one click lag fix and i don't have 850mb of apps installed.
(Update 2) I did a factory reset again this time i didn't format the internal and external SD cards. (It works like new again) Thus I got to keep all my personal files and ring tones ect. The only thing that was deleted that I didn't back up is my Notes. This leads me to my new question whats best for backing up apps on a rooted SGS (bell Vibrant)?
Any good lock screen Apps for non-rooted Captivate that would put a big clock and my Exchange daily schedule on there?View 4 Replies View Related
I have a phone rooted and upgraded to 2.2. It was like that when I bought. Some programs are uninstalled in my phone. But I want them back. And there are some new programs that I don't need.
So what can I do? And how can I do that? Does a factory reset reinstall the uninstalled stock applications?
Installed a new firmware but forgot to do a backup. Been able to download all my apps again from the market, but when I try to download anything from the Samsung apps folder ( 8 items ), I get the message ' Network unavailable '.View 4 Replies View Related
Go into applications and edit (like it says). But then it doesnt allow me to drag one of the bottom 4 icons.
I'm on Orange in the UK BTW. Just wondering if its a special version with this disabled.
I would have thought that a firmware update via Kies would preserve user data, contacts, apps I paid for from the market, phone settings etc. But after going from I9000DXJF4 to I9000DXJG4 using that appalling excuse for software (Kies) I have a completely empty device with just stock standard apps. No warnings to click through about wiping data, no strange error messages on the device. Is this normal? If so I might as well put my SIM card back in my iPhone until there is a consensus build of Froyo out for the Galaxy S as re-downloading and resyncing everything each time.View 8 Replies View Related
Last week I was in the US and had gotten the AT&T pay-as-you-go sim. It charges 1c/kb and I thought that's not too bad since I *only* get outlook and yahoo email. Well, *before* I knew it, it sucked up $14.40 for internet access....Frantically called AT&T customer service and after a long wait, they told me that my device had access the service and downloaded 1.5Mb! I asked them if there was a way to turn off the GPRS(since I was mostly interested in their $2/day unlimited calling service) and they said they don't have a way to turn it off Tried a bunch of things like turning off auto-sync (in settings) etc...but STILL I ended up paying $40 by the end of the day!!
Is their a way to turn off GPRS completely and also monitor what applications are accessing the service? All I have to go by is what AT&T says at the website!
when I look in settings>sd card and phone storage it says:
Internal SD Card
Total space 5.78 GB
Available space 879MB
How come I only have that much free I have looked and cannot see what has filled it all up?
I know there is an app called 'delete contacts' which can delete all contacts, but it seems this only works for the contacts in the phone memory, and not the sim card contacts. How can I delete all contacts from the sim card?View 3 Replies View Related
I know an SD card gives you extra memory for media files, but since the phone comes with 16GB is it really necessary? The basic iPhone 4 comes with 16GB and I don't think most users are clamoring for more.
Does it help the SGS speed if you leave most of the internal memory free (only using it for apps) and use the external card for all your files?
Or does it just provide an opportunity to go crazy with storing files, like an entire season of a TV show for instance?
All that being said... yes I did spring for an 8GB SD card but is it money well spent... who knows.

Kies is complete crap. In fact, I wish I'd stuck with my iphone now because the Galaxy is not great. Heres the latest. If I set USB connection to Ask then when I connect to PC, it asks me. I select Samsung Kies. For some reason I then get a message in the status bar saying USB disabled. Run Kies connects OK. But heres the best bit, on my phone if I go into SD card and phone storage it says both internal and external SD card are not available. Disconnect no difference. Only way to get them back is to reboot the phone. Good news is that at least it works in mass storage mode.View 7 Replies View Related
It seems as if I am unable to remove my external sd card from my Galaxy S. After uninstalling it under "Settings" i try to pull it out/push it in so that it snaps out but it cannot be moved out of the cartridge. I can only push it further in for 1 mm or so.
Is there anything I am not seeing or has anybody else had the same problem?
Is there a backup facility included in the phones software. I want to back up the contacts and settings to the SD card. Can't see anything in the manual.View 1 Replies View Related
