Samsung Galaxy S :: How Many Processes Should Be Running?
Aug 14, 2010
I have advanced task killer on my phone but am amazed at the numbers of processes it seems to kill. I have the ones I know I need set not to close down like adw launcher the HTC keyboard etc however it regularly reports its closed down 40 + processes when I run it.The I run it a few moments later, not having launched anything, and it reports shutting down another 20 or so.Is this right?Could this be the cause of the lagging? I am currently running JM5 firmware which seemed amazing to start with but now seems as laggy as it was before.
Well, I decided to keep my Behold and let the ol' 2g iPhone go.Most of my stuff on this phone seems to be working fairly well. Decent battery life, nothing hangs up too bad. But, I just installed ATK and it's weird.I kill all the processes, then they mysteriously come back a little while later without being open by me.Why? Yet the available memory seems damn decent, 100 available most of the time. Also I installed LockBot And every once in a while it just wont be on my screen. It will just go back to it's original hit unlock to unlock screen.
I'm running into this problem with skype and score mobile. Every time I start my phone up, their widget processes are running in the background, but when I go into the options of these programs, there are no options to turn them off. How do I prevent these widget processes from running all the time?
I don't use task killers or any nonsense like that, but I keep OS Monitor running so I can see if my CPU is running when it shouldn't be. While opening OS monitor and looking at my processes I noticed last night that there were like 6 flicker processes. They weren't currently using any cpu or anything, but why are there 6? And now today I noticed there are 2 running. (after re-start / battery charge)
Is there an application or a way I can view running apps and processes on my phone from my PC? I have the eris (obviously not rooted but patiently awaiting the good news! good speed devs, good speed) with pdanet 2.41. I have a few applications I would like to mod while running.
I would like to share a cache file across activities, which are running in different processes but in a same application. So, is there any way to make it thread safe (probably not "thread safe", should we call it "activities safe" or "process safe" ?
I would like to check the memory consumption of each running processes individually, cat /proc//statmis ok, but opening a shell for each check is time consuming, and maybe not the best way. any advices how to do it with the SDK?
I've been flashing ROMs built on the latest code for Jelly Bean (4.1.1). (The phone is the Galaxy Nexus LTE.)
The battery has been draining fast and upon checking with OS Monitor, I learned that a bunch of android.process.acore processes, sometimes alone and sometimes with another, have been registering high CPU loads continuously until they run the battery down. They are Contacts Storage, User Dictionary, and DRM Protected Content Storage. (DRM is probably not an acore service but it is making trouble just the same.)
I tried winnowing down the problem by deleting the contact store data and resyncing while de-activating third party syncers like HacSync. I even tried cleaning up the contacts via Google on the web. The contacts number only a few hundred. Again, the processes up claiming huge load after the initial sync period.
I scoured the web for reports but have only found mentions dating back to Gingerbread or ICS involving Facebook. Facebook sync doesn't work with JB and again, I have disabled HaxSync.
I also froze User Dictionary with Titanium Backup but that did nothing to keep the process from running, even after a reboot.
is there any way to debug live running apps to see what processes are taking alot of cpu time? I see the options in DDMS but they are not really live. I would just like to see what processes took alot of time so I can dig into the code to optimize it
I want to run tcpdump on the NDK using Process.start() and want to capture this output to a buffer. Can anybody show me how i can do this? Also is the process created in the same Dalvik Vm as the JNI call or is it in a different VM?
1. I am not able to run USSD codes on my GalaxyS-I9000. Whenever I dial any USSD it says "USSD Code Running" and then it disappears, nothing happens after this. 2. Every time after I hung up a call in my old cell/any other cell it use to show the balance amount I have (prepaid card) and last call cost, but in my GalaxyS its not showing anything after the call.
Never had rooted my android phone... I know that there had been many threads about rooting this phone..but i am a little afraid about bricking my phone.. The specs of my phone are given in the attachment...
I just got my phone about 4 days ago, and when opening apps, unlocking, opening contact lists etc etc, it just lags heaps. Does anybody else have the same issue? Could it just be an optimization thing or something?
I've just rooted my s4 i9500 runing official os 4.4.2, im new at this, I rooted my phone so I could get a different experience with it, like overclocking cpu to get faster performance (dont really know how to do this now that I have root access) (not thats runing slow, but just wanted to get the best out of it) Im really new at this I barely learned the process of rooting I've read I can flash a new rom like cyanogenmod (i guess is the best because it gets a lots of reviews) the thing is im not really sure how to do it and also is it worth it?
I want to get the best out of my phone (speed and goodlooks) mostlu because im bored of the original touchwiz.
I've just bought a brand-new Galaxy Fame GT-S6810L and I've been trying to optimize its RAM usage. I know it's naturally low, since it's only 512, but I've been uninstalling unnecessary apps using Titanium Backup (I'm rooted) and the phone still doesn't work very smoothly. It sometimes freezes for a while and then restarts on its own.
So I have Samsung galaxy 3 GT-I5800 running froyo 2.2. I rooted him 1 year ago I after some time I try to unroot him and it didnt worked. Now when I try to root him again it says that my phone isnt rooted but it cant root him again (in process of unrooting I deleted a app or text called su.) How to root it again?
I got my Fascinate yesterday and today idk if its just me but today I noticed when scroll the notification screen down, I see a band of unusual green but when I scroll up to my home screen nothing happens. I tried dead pixel test and nothing showed up. Is it a software issue? or a hardware issue?
Got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus that I continually use for Wifi Tethering. The only problem is that it tends to run hot and sometimes reboot since it's continually being used. Is there a way I can fix it with an app? Or is there a cooling dock I can use (like Laptops use)?
I'm running galaxo 1.6.2 which i installed on my phone running firmware XII5. Since the update I've noticed my phone very laggy and getting FC's all the time. From doing some reading, shouldnt the update have installed JC6 ? Is it my current firmware version the reason for my phones issues ? Do I need to Odin JC6 ?
When connecting my Galaxy-S to the Samsung Kies software, my telephone shows up with an incorrect telephone number. I did change the sim-card (and subsequent number) since first using it, but I never logged intio Kies with the old sim-card.The phone is rooted. How do I get Kies (or my Samsung phone) to show my current telephone number? In the phone properties (Menu, Settings, About, Status) the same wrong number is shown. When calling, the receiver sees the correct telephone number. So the issue is not operator related but telephone related.
I have a Galaxy S4 running android 4.3. Recently it's been randomly shutting off. I ride a motorcycle and most of the time when I get home the phone is off. If I try to turn it on it just goes into a reboot loop and the only way to stop it is to plug it into the charger. At first I thought maybe that the power button gets pressed somehow in my bike jacket pocket and hard shuts it down. But it keeps doing it.
Also I was using it whilst sitting in my house and it just randomly shut off. I'm not too sure whether it does it at a certain percentage or not or whether it only does it when a lot of memory is being used, which I doubt as I'm obviously not using it when it's in my pocket.
Another thing, and I don't know whether it's related or not, but when it shut off the other day whilst I was using it I thought If I took the battery out and back in would it let me boot it up without the need for a charger. But no it didn't work. I plugged it in and then when it came on the language had changed to Slovakian.
Looking on other posts about this some say it's a bad battery. I have AVG anitvirus so I doubt it's a virus although maybe one that isn't yet recognized by AVG? I would like to try and sort out the issue without factory resetting my phone. I have loads of apps and would take ages to back it all up and also the phone is rooted and that's difficult to do as well as install all my root only apps.
Samsung should stop promoting the Galaxy Tab and fix the Galaxy S phones.Tab is running 2.2 and most likely has a fixed GPS.While the rest of us who paid for a product still have not gotten our money's worth.
I have configured my Samsung Galaxy S using my normal Gmail account. This has helped me to sync the Google Contacts with my phone.
Following are my questions:
1. Right now I have about a thousand google contacts synced to my phone. I want to remove them at one go. I know how to disable them from being appearing in contact list, but I want to know if I can delete them without going to factory settings.
2. I am using three applications (a) Gmail (b) Contacts (3) MVOIP. I want to know if there is a way that following combination works: a- Google contacts appear on Gmail app b- Google contacts (with phone numbers) and normal phone contacts appear on "Contacts" c- Google contacts (with phone numbers) and normal phone contacts appear on "MVOIP application".
I know how to do
(a) - By synchronising google contacts, (b) - by choosing display options (c) - I do not know how to handle this and I want help.
I rarely play music on myphone, but i do have a few songs on my SD card. Using battery history it shows that MEDIA uses the most internet usage. Was wondering if its safe to put these on autokill and turn off in startup manager
in an attempt to get "adhoc" network support,I did the following installed and ran "Smart WiFi Scanner" which recommended, and I installed some "WiFi Library" to support adhoc networks
I uninstalled the library app. installed and ran "ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher" (the app requested root access, I granted it, then the system shutdown abruptly - i.e. immediately off, not normal shut down)
I turned the phone back on, and tried running the "ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher" app a second time again phone turned off instantly. Now it boots up, system is fully running and loading home screen etc. but then reboots after about 7 seconds, and just continues in this loop.
I have a galaxy note i717 and it was unplugged while an automated unrooting program (kingo android root) was running. Now the phone is stuck at the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen, and Kies won't connect to the phone.
Is there anything I can do to get the phone working again?
