I'm rooting my Galaxy S for the first time. Looks like there are multiple ways to do it:
(1) Download & apply update.zip
(2) Use z4root app from market
(3) Use SuperOneClick for PC
(4) Use OneClickLagFix app
A while back I had my brother root my Samsung Galaxy S3 for me. I unrooted it using SuperSU but when I went to install the latest KitKat update (4.4.2) it flashed the yellow triangle and said I had unauthorized software and I needed to contact the Verizon store. I did the down volume-home-power thing and took care of that but it is clear to me that even though SuperSU says my phone is unrooted it isn't. How do I really unroot my phone?
I have a Virgin Mobile Galaxy S3 that just got the 4.4 update this morning. Afterwards it had to redownload/update nearly every app on the device as well as all my SNES and Playsation ROMs which I though was odd.
Now all the notifications for thos downloads will not go away. I've cleared them all at once, I've cleared them all individually. When I turn the screen off and then turn it back on an dunlock the phone all those notifications are back in the notification bar.
This was listed under the "Samsung Galaxy S" sub-forum but would it also apply to the Fascinate and other US variants of the phone as well?
If you read through that page there is a guy on there who is talking to someone at Clove Technology who is supposedly talking to someone from Samsung. What they are saying is that the fixes will be bundled with Froyo and hoping for an end of September update.
I am wondering how to apply themes from xda in our galaxy. A lot of themes say that will only work on cyanogen mod rom and i am not that expert to make experiments with my phone. The way of setting a theme must be the same (update.zip or correct me if i am wrong). I think we can make a list here of the working themes on galaxy and maybe a how to install or modify themes to work with galaxy.
As i just said before, I was updating my Galaxy S I9000 when it just got to the last notch on updating, and it failed. Now my phone when i turn it on, Goes to a screen with a phone then *!* warning sign to computer. What do i need to do here?
Want to upgrade manually yourself? Download the Android 2.2 firmware for the Evo to your PC. Place the file in the top level directory of your SD Card. (Do not unzip this file) Rename the downloaded file. (If your Windows is configured to show extensions, then rename it "update.zip" if you do not have extensions visible then rename it "update" NOTE: If downloading the file from the above link, it's already been renamed for you) If you don't have it already, download ASTRO File Manager from the Android Market. Connect your EVO to your PC and set the connection type to "Disk Drive" Copy over the downloaded file to the root of your EVO directory structure. Power down your Evo Reboot into Recovery Mode by Holding down the Volume Down button as you power the phone back on. The Boot Loader will appear, A screen should appear showing your phones system searching for various files. Scroll down to recovery and press the Power button. (The Volume Up/Down buttons navigate the menu, and the Power Button selects the selection.) When you see the triangle with an exclamation point symbol, press the Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time. (and wait for 10-15 seconds), The recovery should eventually come up. Select Bootloader Scroll down to Recovery and select it The phone will reboot again, this time into Recovery. From the menu that appears, select Apply sdcard:update.zip. or "install from zip" (depending on your recovery image) When the screen displays Install from sdcard complete select reboot system now and wait for the phone to power back up. Wait a while.. the phone will reboot repeatedly and finally install the update with the new apps. (The installation can take up to 15-20 minutes)
My brother received the update this morning, but I never received, and neither did my friend. I am wondering, will this be fixed these days? or does this mean I have to apply manually? I am not a professional at that type of thing, I am not too familiar with smart phones, so I am worried if I apply it manually I would screw something up.
I just rooted (minutes ago) and I would like to put a hero rom on my rogers htc magic(32a). I was going to use fatal1ty's rom from here. Rogers Rom Repository (Check Here for the Latest Rogers/32A Ports) - xda-developers is this the best one to use? I'm a little confused about how to do it now. do I need a new radio or anything? In his instructions it says "Rename it in update.zip copy to sd reboot (pressing home+power) wipe apply update"
shouldn't I go into fastboot and then type "fastboot boot recovery.img" just like I did when I was rooting and then click "apply sdcard: update.zip"? why would this be different? Pressing home+power didn't even seem to do anything different. Perhaps I didn't hold home long enough..
I have helped some friends updating their SGS phones with the new software from the samsung firmwares website. However, now I'm stuck with a problem on one of the phones: It simply won't go into download mode. Normally, I press the volume down + menu key and while pressing them I push the power button. But nothing happens, excemt the phone starts up just like normal. I've done it the exact same way with all the models, but this model does not react like the rest of them. Today, I successfully updated 3 models this way, but model number 4 would not go into download mode. The model has the JM2 firmware now. The other 3 models had JM1 firmware, even though they were all purchased at the same date. Is there another way of getting the SGS into download mode?
I need to download the Quake II Demo Pak0.pak so I can put it in the quake 2 folder so I can play quake II on my phone. But no. My phone won't let me download anything through the browser. No matter what it is, or where it is, I can't access anything that starts with "FTP". Also, I can't access the megaupload download server, I can't download things from my email. I can't do any of that. When I use allftp and I put in an ftp site, it asks for a username and password even if the ftp is public. How can I download a freaking file?
My wife recently got a SGS and we have just tried to download Kies so that she can put some music etc on it (she has a 16GB microsd card in it). However, when we try and install Kies it gets to the installation phase and then at the stage where it prompts you what to install, I selected "instal all" and then it thinks about it and comes back a minute later with a message "unable to connect to file server".Is this a common problem people have had? We are running Windows 7 64 bit, so I dont know if there is a compatability issue? If we cant get Kies to download (and I called their support line and of course no-one answers) is there another way to get data onto the phone and external card? Will I need to buy some kind of adaptor so that I can connect the microsd card and just treat it as any external hard drive?
I'm having problems with the app store, and it seems to be a little different to the ones already listed here. I'm hoping it's a problem with the Android app store or something...
Anyway, I'm just getting "download unsuccessful" every time I try to get an app.
The main bit of advice is to clear the caches, or delete the data, from a few things. I've done this, except for "Google Apps", because the delete data button isn't there.
I've also had it suggested that it's changing from one sort of google account to another. I've had gmail for years and years (since the early days of its beta) and have never changed it, or any settings related to it.
My phone was advertised on ebay as being simlocked to T mobile. However I quickly discovered it wasn't when my Orange Sim worked in it and no T mobile apps or logos appeared on my phone. I already have a Samsung Glaxaxy from Orange so instantly knew that my new phone from ebay was not up to date.As you can see one of my phones is running the latest firmware but the other one isn't AND also says it cannot be updated. What is going on? Has the seller messed with my phone or something?I am not interested in getting Froyo on either of my phones. I will get that when it is officially released. All I want is the ebay phone to be able to be updated. I have tried everything suggested on this forum including changing the product code. I tried to change it on the phone, no product codes were listed as a choice, I also changed the registry but nothing works. Have I got a dud phone because surely my T Mobile phone (which somehow allows an orange sim to work) can get JM3 update by now?
1. I've been reading posts for an hour now and can't find a direct answer. Or maybe there is one and I'm missing it due to my lack of rooting knowledge. I am using velocity .2 and clockwork mod recovery. I am getting a system update notification, Update now/Later, etc. What do I do? I am reading some of the posts and some seem like they pertain to it. Since Im rooter and on velocity.
2. Can I update? Do I have to go to the stock LG rom in rom manager and apply that first?
Do I have to do a factory reset? Am I supposed to lose root. Some help on how to apply the update with velocity .2 and clockword mod recovery tutorial to apply the update without bricking phone please.
I started a firmware update (using Odin) and, when downloading the amss, samsung says "Bad block table read fail". a lot of times and the progress bar (on Odin) stay locked. And the update cant finish. So, I restart the mobile... but it always come with the "Downloading..." screen. I've tried the recovery mode [vol down] + [start call] + [end call] buttons, but it always go to "Downloading..." screen. I can't exit from the download mode, and the phone doesn't start any more. I've removed the battery, but the same... the "diskette logo" come with "Downloading..." all the times. So, two questions: 1) About the "bad block" message, I think it's because I left "turned on" the USB debugging. so, I want to start the phone to turn it off again. This make sense? 2) How to get rid of this screen? How to stop the download mode?
I have a Galaxy S running stock ROM. No lag fix no custom ROM no root nothing. Just now I tried going into recovery/download mode to see what features it have by pressing the volume down+home+Power button. Now the phone says "Downloading Do not turn of target! What can I do to solve this problem. Till now I haven't tried to restart the phone? Should I do that?
When I tried to download a mp3 off the internet on my Galaxy, it said that file is not supported. Is there any way to be able to download a mp3 directly to the phone without the need of transferring via the cable?
