Samsung Galaxy S :: Cannot Connect To WiFi Networks
Oct 2, 2010
My SGS (well its actually my wife's but I use it also) will not connect to WiFi networks, other than the one we have at home. If we are out, the phone will be able to see lots of WiFi networks, but it cannot connect to any of them as it says the signal is poor. Other people can be sat right next to other with other phones and have no problem connecting and they have strong signals. At home it will connect, but even then there is only one bar of signal, even though the router is in the same room. It appears that the phone just cannot get a strong enough signal to connect.
I'm having the dreaded "Unable to Scan for Networks" in the WIFI. Can I fix without doing a reset? I'm on vodafone UK. All the info I have been reading points to me having to do a master reset. Or deleting a file if my phone is rooted. Can I root my phone to do this? or is this not possibly on a voda contact mobile. After I accidentally removed my WiFi from my phone. Then added it again. Getting my WiFi working. Info about Rooted phones (is it possible with mine?). A good backup software for PC, is kies any good what does it backup?
OK I cant connect to any open networks via WiFi, I have set up fine on my home network..M i missing something. Also i couldn't get this to work with the stock orange 1.5, but didn't really explore why either. As i was ok with home use. I am traveling away from home more now and would like to connect to a open network. I have asked if i need a password and username but still no joy.. Is it a safety measure from orange i need to unable?
I'm looking for an app that will automatically enable my wifi for designated networks. Basically, the only location currently I really desire to use wifi is at home since if I'm at home, my phone is likely charging (since wifi eats battery) and the speed beats 3G. I'm going through appbrain.com and finding a lot of apps that automatically scan and connect to open networks, automatically connect to the fastest network, a bunch of wifi toggle widgets...nothing really for making conditions for what networks it will connect to, especially one that has a password.
For some reason my wifi wont conect to my homes wifi as of last night? i have had the x10 months and had no problems but my girlfriend bought the x10 mini yesturday, showed her how to connect it up to wifi networks i.e my own home one, then since that my x10 will not connect to mine an say unsuccessful even tho it will connect to any others. as it is very annoying having to boot the pc up to get on the web.
I'm having an issue with my wifi not connecting. I have to AP's in my house, on different channels. They work perfectly fine. I have the wifi toggle setting on the home screen that I usually press to toggle the wifi on/off. Recently, it hasn't been working after I disconnect from 3G and connect to wifi. It says the wifi is turned on, but it won't connect to either of the remembered APs. The only way to get it to automatically connect is to go to settings and view the list of APs. Only then will it connect to one of the two APs. This is really annoying, as it seemed to only start this recently and nothing has changed. My wifi sleep policy is never to turn off. It's a droid eris with 2.1 OTA. Ran a virus scan, nothing. Any ideas?
I just got an unlocked samsung galaxy s. I have centennial but this phone was thru At&t. I cant get it to connect to internet except wifi when I am around it. I also cannot download picture messages. I have tried several apn settings and nothing has worked. I have a data plan thru centennial as well.
I am on Galaxo 1.6.3 , its an amazing o.s btw , currently I am facing a little problem , my phone does not auto connect to my home wifi , I have to manually go into settings >> wifi settings >> and then select my wifi from there , since it requires time and effort I end up using my 3G network which is burning an hole in my pocket.
I created a wireless adhoc network in my laptop and tried to discover the wireless network from my galaxys, but its not able to detect the connection. But when i try the same with a wireless router/modem its working fine. and 1. how do i use dlna without a wireless router (just my laptop and galaxys) 2. how to use unified wifi remote.
after changing some router settings (like the number of the channel) my SGS2 on 4.0.3 ICS doesn't connect anymore. WiFi itself is working fine, except the AP of the router i changed. Deleting all AP information and reentering all WPA2 data will change nothing. In my eyes the phone is not forgetting AP data completely when you try to delete an AP entry.
It happened to me last night on the Captivate. I tried battery pulls, deleting the WiFi nets, etc., but it still kept turning WiFi off within a minute of turning it on. I did a factory reset (I'm getting better at this process. Can restore my device back to its former glory within an hour).
I got the samsung captivate for AT&T a couple of weeks ago and have run into a few problems with it: 1) Wifi worked great for a while, but now it says unable to scan for networks and turns the wifi off...this wouldn't be too bad if I had a big data plan but I do not. 2) Battery Life...fml 3) I cannot find ANYWHERE any supporting software to sync media files with my PC 4) The drivers will not install on my computer 5) Way too many apps are using data without me even opening them (navigation, yahoo mail etc...) I have AdvAppKiller but that gets old It is wonderful having such a wonderful, fast device with 16 gb of memory, but these shortcomings are making me realize why I enjoyed a flip phone for so long.
I have a samsung Galaxy S3 with Android version 4.1.2.
I commute between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (UK) every week so my phone goes to roaming settings. I am on the Three network down south and so long as my phone connects to Three (UK) when it roams i dont get charged a cent. Sometimes it likes to jump to O2 or other networks and it is costing me a lot of money. Is there a way to fix the network its allowed to connect to without turning off the "roaming" setting?
I'm running a Galaxy Note with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, unlocked. I got it three weeks ago, and not once have I managed to get Google Talk to log in... except when I'm using wifi. On wifi, it's totally fine. But try to use it on the data connection, and it just refuses to log in. No errors, no explanations... it just goes grey and nothing will happen. I use Google Talk constantly -- it's really making me regret giving up my old T9 Nokia, because at least that ran Google Talk properly. I'm tearing my hair out over it, and I can't find any support anywhere -- the product forums for Talk have been dead 18 months, the blogs for it even longer, there doesn't appear to be any support email address...
I don't really know what other useful information I can provide. There's no error message to describe. Every other app works perfectly fine over the data connection, including Trillian (connecting to the exact same Google Talk account) and Gmail. Never had a problem with anything else. I have tried removing that Google account from my own and re-adding it. I have tried force-stopping and disabling the Google Talk process and clearing its data (though the option to clear its cache is greyed out). Neither brings any chance. I've tried double-checking my APN settings; the only two I have are the currently-used one and the MMS one. I've called my service provider and asked if they maybe blocked any ports or anything; they haven't. I have made sure that Google Talk wasn't set to 'restrict background data' in the data manager; it wasn't.
I'm about to purchase an HTC Desire after it comes out (I'm in Canada) and wanted to know if you can only set the phone to connect to one Wi-Fi network or if I can set multiple networks so the more places I go, like a friends house, I use less data.
My WiFi doesn't reach upstairs in my house, and for that reason, I have a wired connection that comes upstairs. I set my laptop up to share the wired internet connection through an AdHoc for other devices...except my Incredible. Kinda weird that Google didn't have this feature built in without having to root the phone. Does anyone know a way to connect to an AdHoc?
I've had a Galaxy Tab for 2 years, and used it, very successfully, as a wifi hotspot from May until July this year, when my laptop was suddenly not able to connect to the internet via the hotspot. It connected just fine to the Tab, and has no problems on my home wifi. The Tab was still able to connect to the internet normally, with no apparent problems.
I fiddled about a bit and thought perhaps it was a hardware problem, so bought a seconhand Nexus S. That has been working fine until yesterday, when the exact same thing has happened - the laptop can connect fine to the Nexus, but says there is no internet connection. The Nexus itself is connecting just fine.
I've had a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for just over a year. A few weeks ago, I updated to Android 4.2.2 whilst visiting my parent's house and it started continually rebooting itself. I did a factory reset (or two) before figuring out that it's entirely down to the WiFi. If I get in quick enough and don't allow it to connect, the problem stops, and it only occurs with the WiFi at my parent's house (though it always worked fine before the update). I've tried unplugging the WiFi repeater, which was a relatively new addition to the house, but it hasn't made a difference.
A Wi-Fi device running Android looks like being able to connect to a secured Wi-Fi access point using WEP, WPA, etc. I actually can't figure how to setup a "WPA Enterprise" secured Wi-Fi connection wich requires a certificate. I can't find a way to import a security certificate. I went to "Settings" app, "Wireless controls" menu, "Wi-Fi settings" menu, clicked the "Advanced" menu, "Security certificates" menu, clicked "Add certificates" menu to get an empty list. I tried to put the .cer file on the SD card but the list is still empty.
No connectivity at all on my Captivate. Wifi networks can't be saved, and the 3G symbol is up there, but there's nothing being transmitted or received. Should I do a factory reset? The phone part works, as does messaging, but nothing else.
I have correctly entered my network info and the wep code but when trying to connect to the network it keeps saying unsuccessful. I have the Westell A-90 router/modem from Verizon. It's about 10 feet away from where I am trying to connect.
my husband currently has the Epic. Picked it up for him launch day and sent it out to Iraq the next day. He received it today. He had an Evo before the epic and never had this issue. the issue he's having is, obviously he doesn't pick up sprint service out in iraq, but with his evo he was able to pick up wifi and connect to google talk, qik, etc.his epic is allowing him to connect to a wifi signal, but it won't allow him to connect to google talk, qik, etc. it keeps saying "can't connect to server". like i said, he never had this issue with the evo.
I have a new behold and I don't have a data plan so I run everything off WiFi. The market wont work though. When I create a new account it says checking username availability then says cant establish a reliable data connection to the server.
I haven't been able to get my phone to connect to wifi - any wifi, not just my home wifi - since the middle of August. I don't have any sort of data plan, just the basic texting-and-minutes dealio. This is what happens at the Wifi Settings screen:
- It says it's scanning - It tries to auto-connect to my home wifi - It says 'authenticating with (my home wifi)' - After a few seconds it says 'disconnected' - My home wifi in the Wifi Networks section of the screen is listed as 'disabled'. - The process starts all over again.
As I said this has been like this since August, but it was never a problem before. I really don't want to buy a new phone. I need to get this sorted out in less than five days, so hit me with everything you got, even if it's not likely.
Info that might be useful (I don't know phones very well): - Android version is 2.2.2 - Baseband version is I5510UGKC5 - Build number is FROYO.UGKC5 - My wifi is Motorola with Eastlink
Also I've had a problem with the app store for months...relevant? And: I used to have data but I switched my plan...never heard of a plan that didn't include WIFI though, good grief. And: my 'battery use' panel says Wifi only accounts for 3%...I seem to remember this should be way higher, if it were connected at all.
