Oct 22, 2010
I m trying to download music from my windows media player and when I plug usb into back of computer then into my phone, my computer is not recognizing phone to sync with....says "found new hardware" but cannot find way to install phone. The phone recognizes being connected..but can't get computer to sync with phone?? Anyone??
I just got the Captivate. (It replaces my iphone 4). I am trying to sync with Windows Media Player, but I need drivers for that. I downloaded the modem drivers, but it did not do the trick. I am using Vista x 32.
Sync Music to Nexus One using itunes and Windows Media Player. This process automatically creates a Music folder at the root level of the SD card. Hopefully some of you find this useful, especially coming from using iTunes Read more
After hours of hit and miss using programs like Double Twist etc. I found that the easiest way to sync music to the iHTC Music player is to use Windows Media Player and buy Album Art Grabber to load the album art. Once you have done the initial sync with WMP you can go back and load individual albums simply by dragging them to the sync area. Connect your phone to the PC and unmount the SD card Open WMP and click the sync tab. Click the drive that represents your SD card (mine was H You will be prompted to sync everything for either this session or all sessions. (I always click this session only). Works great and all I will need in the future!
finding a good Android Music Player apps that can wirelessly sync to my Windows Media Player from playlist to the actual mp3 files itself. Or do i really need an iTunes for it? If so can iTunes recognize my Windows Media Player playlist?

Samsung Galaxy S getting "Unsupported file format" on .mp3s in AllShare (DLNA). Want to stream music from Windows 7 computer to Android device. Connected AllShare to Windows Media Player 12 over WiFi G network to "Play file from server on my phone". I can browse PC media folders from the Galaxy S. In AllShare, I click an .MP3 from my PC library, add it to the AllShare playlist, then the circle spins for about 10 seconds and I finally get the pop-up error "Unsupported file format." All .mp3's are DRM-free unprotected files. They play fine directly from the MicroSD card through the standard Android Music app. Disconnected/reconnected WiFi, same results. Read a few other posts on various forums, a few people have the same issue. Looks like fewer are even trying to use DLNA like this. Heard plenty of "hypothetical" troubleshooting steps but still searching for someone who's actually tried the steps & got it to work. Some had success with other DLNA media servers or by using different software altogether. I want to specifically stream music from a PC to my SGS using DLNA & WMP. Great for portability. Any "dittos"? Resolutions? By the way this device is AWESOME (Sprint Epic 4G) Also I realize this post is verbose; I want it to easily appear for others' search results. Please feel free to copy, paste & post in a more appropriate forum or thread.
I have all (almost all) of my movies ripped to Divx/Xvid as .avi files. What player is best suited to playing these? I tried the stock players & they didn't work. will Doubletwist play them? I really don't want to convert them over again. Also, coming from the iPhone, I loved the way it synced my podcasts - I see that people rally like Isyncr. Is that the best app to use? At this point, until I re-think my home media integration solution, I want to stay with iTunes.
I use Windows Media Player to manage all my mp3s and playlists. I want my Samsung Galaxy S to be synchronized with my PC. I can connect my Galaxy S using "Media Player" mode and use the built-in sync with WMP, but there are issues: 1) Some mp3s get "corrupted" - how do I force WMP to "re-sync" them without losing my playlist association (if I manually add it as a file to sync, it is no longer associated with the playlist)
2) If I delete an mp3 from the device, WMP doesn't realize and won't re-sync the file again... is there a way to re-sync?
3) Sometimes WMP will re-sync playlists and each song shows up 3-4+ times when I load up a playlist on my device. I then have to wipe the Music and Playlist folder and re-sync from scratch any way around this?
4) Where are android playlists stored? The Playlists folder on the sd card can be wiped, but the playlists still show up in the music player?
5) If I make a change to a playlist on my PC, WMP will freeze and start skipping random files the playlists get corrupt and I see problem #3 occur. Essentially, if I change a playlist, I have to wipe the Music and Playlist folder and re-sync from scratch.
I want to be able to use/view the video's I record with my phone on my computer. (open from an email or use in window's movie maker)I have a new computer with Windows seven at work and a Vista laptop at home. I can send the video to myself and try to open in from my email or tether to the computer and transfer the file manually. Either way I can't open with windows media player. Video's taken with default "Camcorder" app on a myTough 3G running Android 1.6.I know it has something to do with the codec's the phone uses but wonder why they wouldn't use codec's that are compatible with the most commonly used pc's?Is there any way around this? Some kind of converter for the computer or for the phone? Is there another camcorder app that can record video with a different codec or is it phone hardware specific? So far have been able to use these forum's to sort out most of my Android problems but I'm stumped on this one. It doesn't seem like it should be this hard to do. Should be more user friendly.
Does anyone know how to skip audiobook mp3 files in Media Player. It's especially troublesome when trying to listen to music on random. I guess I could make a playlist, but I have thousands of songs I'd have to add. What I would really like to do is just exclude the Audiobook folder from the Music Player all together.
Anyone else noticed their phone making peculiar playlists for their MP3's? I made 3 playlists using doubleTwist and put them on my phone and when I rebooted my phone yesterday my phone had created several other playlists on it's own each with no more than 3 or 4 songs in it. Anyone else noticed anything similar to this at any point?
I'm afraid to root my phone and I understand that's the only way to get rid of the default music app on my captivate. If I can't get rid of it, is there a way to make it a lame duck and set another player as my default player.
I recently installed Playerpro which has all the features I need in a music player but when I press the headset buttons (which I need for my daily walks) it automatically starts my default music player, which I never use. Granted this may be in an issue with the app as Mixzing and others don't have this issue but is there anyway to set defaults on my droid.
I am using WMP to sync pics, vids and music to the phone and noticed that the album art looks horrible (low definition). I always added my own album art to iTunes and on the iPhone it looks clear and crisp. I figure that iTunes optimizes the photo for the iPhone but i'm trying to now optimize it for the Captivate and am running into a wall.Has anyone else experienced this and fixed the problem?
I cant get my music player to shut down. This happens periodically and it gets really annoying (and embarrassing when Im in class). I searched and read the only way to shut it down is to use the exit/return at the full screen music player and then go to your app killer. Even if I follow these steps and then unplug my headphones the music player will usually 'turn back on' and start playing music at full blast out of my speaker..How can I kill this thing once and for good? btw im using advanced task killer.
This maybe a silly question but how do you turn the music player off ? It has a pause but no stop if i go to home it still plays. I have been going to my settings and app/running serv. and shutting it down that way, but I'm sure there must be an easier way.
I'm loving my captivate except for one issue. I use my phone as my main mp3 player so its important too me that the music player works flawlessly (keep in mind this is my first android device. I find the samsung themed music player very laggy beyond belief, so my question is, is there anyway too get the stock android player on this phone?
common question this one, but i have had a search but no luck i;m afraid. Using Media Monkey to sync to my SGS, but the stock player doesn;t seem to recognise playlists, or the difference between podcasts and otehr tracks. Anyone else using Media monkey and know how to get it working? I've followed the steps here easiest Way to Sync Music to Android Device Using Media Monkey
returned my first Cappy today, for a plethora of reasons (Battery, GPS incredibly unsnappy 1ghz processor that my previous iphone 4 crushed) among others. But this one seems to be a happy and healthy cappy so far. Anyway, running in to an issue. I have all of my music in itunes, but converted it and just housed it in windows media player when i took my iphone back and got the captivate. When I put my music on the captivate, I get all kinds of crazy file names, numbers, squiggles and the like. It's showing me the actual file and not what I've tagged it as, so I have very few artwork, cd names, and track names there. I've tried to sync music 2 ways: 1) Hook cappy up to pc under media player mode and sync through windows media player 2) sync with itunes agent Both methods got the same results. I like my music libary to be smooth and organized, but i can't figure out how to change the files names to what I want! Should i get mp3 tagging software? if so, which kind? Can I just change the name in windows? It's kind of making miss my iphone!
Ive searched around and havent seen an answer for this one yet. all my music is tagged correctly and it plays fine with every other music player, but the samsung music player will recognize some tags and the rest it just files under "unknown" but then it lists all the info under the song title, so i have a ton of songs with long titles by artist "unknown." is there a specific type of tag that the samsung player wants? other than that i actually like the stock music player, especially the drop down on the lock screen. is there another player with a neat drop down like that on the lock screen maybe?
when I play a song I don't get any album artwork. Is there a secret to this or does the default player not support this. The art work shows up in Itunes. Anyone know of any music app that is better than the stock one?
So the stock music player has the 5.1 setting, which to me makes a huge difference over other players. How many of you feel trapped into using it because it sounds better, like me? i wish I could get the same option on other players
