Samsung Captivate :: Side Loading Applications (Installing Non Market) Without Root

Aug 6, 2010

I've seen many threads on the crappy side asking how to side load apps (installing non market apps) well you can root (look for the sticky in our forum) or you just use the Side loading Wonder Machine with no need to root. I use it all the time (just got me an Oregon Trail apk anyway, just follow the instructions and you'll be happy. I would make two minor corrections though. I downloaded the samsung drivers from samsung them selfs. Also make sure you have the apk in the same folder as the wonder machine heres a video.

Samsung Captivate :: Possible Side Loading Without Root / PC Connection?

Jul 19, 2010

I may be wrong here as I am new to this whole game but I think I was able to load "restricted apps" by turning airplane mode on and then turning wifi back on. I searched for and installed pdanet with no problem right from the marketplace.

Samsung Captivate :: Translator CMD To Terminal Code For Board Sticky Of Side Loading Apps

Sep 1, 2010

Been talking to Lekky and we have all these great things grouped into one thread. One important thread is side mounting the captivate. Things it gives you are SDK which can be downloaded for PC or Mac. Drivers again PC or Mac.

Then Root access no biggie
Busy box no biggie.

Then it goes into the CMD language for PC on how to edit the database file using CMD prompts to enable the sideloading of APKs directly on the phone.......................

I have rooted my captivate, but don't know how to use it yet! I am still a newb to this! But I found and application called "tattachapkinstaller" where it lets you install apps from gmail. But the problem is when I tried to use the app it would say "install blocked: for security, your phone is set to block installation of application not sourced in android market". I thought rooting the phone will allow me to?

Android :: What's The Status Of Installing A Non Market Applications?

Sep 26, 2010

I understand there are two ways to distribute one's apps: 1) through the Market and 2) directly to the user. Now that my app is in beta, I would like to give it to a few of my users to test. But how? What I read on the web talks about installing SDKs, tweaking with many options and using an auxiliary app; I deem these to be well beyond the ability or patience of my users. Is there an easier way? What's the EASIEST?

It would be best if the user can simply navigate to the link and download it using their android phone. Is this possible? I am trying to figure out how to instruct my users to download and install it painlessly. (taking the SD card out for intermediate installation is not painless and is prohibitively intimidating). this is a keyboard that you need to invoke, twice, after you install it. Once through Settings> Languages and Keyboards, and the second time through tapping and holding on the text field and selecting. Oh and it's called MessagEase-beta

Samsung Captivate :: Simplest Way To Side Load Apps

Jul 21, 2010

I don't know if this was already posted and I am sorry if it was, but I would just like to show people how to sideload apps NOT using root and in very simple words.

1. Download Droid Explorer for your system. (de - Release: Droid Explorer 0.8.7.0 Beta)

2. Now, go to your phone. Settings> Applications> Development > USB Debugging.

3. Make sure you downloaded the drivers for the captivate then plug in your phone and select PC connect and mount the phone.

4. Now open Droid Explorer and connect the device. Right click and select batch install.

5. Now a screen should pop up and you should select the APKs you would like to install and it is self explanatory from there on out.

That should do it, sorry if this was posted somewhere else or something but I kind of figured this out on my own even though I am not a very techy guy.

HTC Incredible :: Root Applications From Market When Unrooted

Right now I am rooted, and I know I need to unroot. I have purchased several root-only apps from the market and I would like to know if what will happen to them during the process. Of course I know that when I unroot I will lose everything and then not be able to use them. But once I root my new phone will I be able to reinstall them? And will the people be able to view them in my downloads?

General :: Side Loading When Unauthorized?

Sep 1, 2013

I have a Galaxy Nexus. I accidentally wiped the SD Card trying to flash back to stock, and now I have no OS. So, I'm trying to sideload a file onto the device but I'm getting an unauthorized message, as seen in the photo attached. I'm on a computer I've previously authorized, and I've tried one I hadn't, but both give me the same message.

Is there any way I can bypass this to get this file on my phone? Since I can't sideload through this, I've basically hit a wall.My recovery is CWM, but I've gone through every option and nothing seems to allow authorization. my phone's basically a brick at the moment.

It appears to be javascript related, because when I disable javascript the page will load without crashing. This happens both in the standard browser and in DolphinHD. Also, sometimes before crashing DolphinHD will show a page saying: "The Web page at file:///android_asset/webkit could not be loaded as: The requested file was not found. webkit/"

1. search barnacle on app market: no results

2. download double twist, search for barnacle, find it, scan the barcode. It recognizes it as barnacle. Sweet. I press the button to continue to app market, market opens, says "can't download that" or "error" or something.

3. Find the barnacle apk. online, download it to my computer, connect my captivate to my computer, throw the apk. file onto the captivate. Sweet! Now I have the apk. file on my phone at long last................

Samsung Captivate :: Root Captivate With No USB Cables

Aug 11, 2010

know there are tutorials on the root process with the "one-click" root, and some using your pc and USB drivers, This is the EASIEST way I think, and I just did it, so i know it works.I was at work today and I wanted to root my Captivate. All I have is my work pc, and my Captivate. No USB cables or anything. I had one powerful tool though. the Internet. You will need these 2 apps: Linda File Manager and Dropbox. Free in the Market.Go to Dropbox - Home - Online backup, file sync and sharing made easy. and download that to your computer. Sign up for it, it is cloud based file sharing. It's awesome, I use it every day. Already a user, great. On your pc, go download the root update file here: SGH-I897 Root Update.zip - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage Rename it to update.zipOpen up your dropbox and put it in the "public" folder. Now on your Captivate, open up dropbox and sign in.Open the public folder and tap the file "update.zip" to download it.Now open up Linda file manager.Tap "SD card", open the folder "dropbox". open "public", then tap and hold "update.zip". Choose CUT.Now just hit the back button all the way back to the SD card.Tap the menu button, tap EDIT, then tap Paste.Close all apps.Turn the phone off.Now just boot in to recovery.Hold down both Volume buttons at the same time. While holding those 2 buttons, hold the power button down.ONCE THE WHITE AT&T SCREEN POPS UP, RELEASE THE POWER BUTTON, BUT KEEP HOLDING THE VOLUME BUTTONS UNTIL THE RECOVERY SCREEN SHOWS UP. (You'll know it when you see it)You will now see the recovery screen.Use the volume keys to scroll down to "reinstall packages", hit the power button to select it.Let it do it's thing.BAM. 1-2 minutes later, your phone is rebooted and you now have superuser in the app drawer. This seems a little lengthy, but if you are already a dropbox user, it will go by fast.I rooted my Captivate in less than 5 minutes.
