Would deleting TALK and INSTANT MESSAGING on my captivate will effect any other application?
for instance, if i delete IM, am i able to download different application like SKYPE beta. Skype Lite Free Android App

Also another question: Anyone buy a Droid through Bestbuy? Looking to buy Droid through Bestbuy cause hubby wants the Blackberry 8530 Curve? and you can get it free when you buy the Droid. Otherwise through Verizon you can get the Eris with a purchase of the Droid but hubby insists on the Blackberry, he's lets say not really into computers anyways.
what IM apps to use. I was using AIM but it doesnt let you log onto more then one account at a time. I have both facebook and Aim but would only be allowed to log into one of them at a time.

So I thought hey... there are lots of wifi networks around where I live I wonder if it would help if I turn my wifi on.
I get an almost instant lock accurate to 50 meters (good enough for navigation). I have tried it over and over and when I turn off wifi, I get an accuracy of 1700 meters. Turn it back on and get accuracy to 50 meters.
It works indoors and out.
I just noticed that for this to work YOU MUST HAVE "USE WIRELESS NETWORKS" CHECKED under location and security then turn on Wifi (you don't have to connect to any networks). My guess is it narrows down your location based on Cell tower triangulation, then uses wifi to narrow it down.

I was a huge advocate for ebuddy, but the app doesn't support Froyo, and I'm using a 2.2 rom. So, I'm hoping one of you can recommend an instant messaging app to try out. I've tried a few and can't find one I like.
ebuddy: No froyo support
Meebo: Blows. Constant disconnects.
IM+: No longer supported
What I need:
1. AIM, Facebook, GChat, MSN
2. Remain signed in 24/7
3. Froyo support

From looking on forums it appears it's because I mistakenly deleted the GTalk (Google Talk app). I am making an IM application for Android. The application consists of a server and client, both residing on the android. At startup, the applications register with a webserver. If a client wants to send an IM to a server behind a NAT router, how this be done? I heard of stun4j and jstun but found nowhere an example of their usage in android.

I could see he was online and so could he, and he could receive the messages I sent him. However, I couldn't receive any messages he sent me (which was unfortunate since I set up a really cool Beach Boys ringtone to go off for gchat notifications...). Anyways, has anyone else had this problem?

I had my contacts connected to my gmail, then decided to see if I could put them on the sim and still use a picture for them (protip, you can't :P) then I decided to go back to [g] contacts and thus would need to just delete the ones on the sim else I'd have multiple ones.
So off I trot, hold down for the context menu, hit delete and then BAM "Failed" er...what? I'm not allowed to delete my own contacts if they're on the sim card?! What, do I have to mount it to the pc and go looking for them or something? That's ridiculous if so, I'm hoping I'm just missing something obvious...
I'm having another problem with my milestone that I'd like to share with developers and Android coders: Whenever I run memory-intensive applications while I have an IM app running in the background, the IM app is often killed without any user notification whatsoever.Take this scenario for instance (works every time on my Milestone): A few background apps are already running: Sipdroid, Locale, Titanium Backup's service... 2. Launch Nimbuzz (or Fring, eBuddy or Meebo - it's reproducible on all of them) 3. Use lots of memory - for instance with a browser (open lots of windows will full desktop sites), or by launching multiple memory- intensive applications at once (Maps Navigation or other navigation apps work well)

I was just looking using Root Explorer and there are some massive files in /data/fota. What are they? I have 3 files, fota.status, (Size 36) and fota_delta_dp1 and fota_delta_dp2 both size 62914560. That seems like a lot, I'm guessing it's measured in bytes so that'd be 60 megabytes or so, so 120 total. Are they safe to remove, seems like the results from the over-the-air update.

I've seen a lot of videos of the Captivate and Vibrant and when they show the Messaging app it shows the bubble (kind of IPhone look) and I was wondering if you can change the look to the regular android look?
Maybe by pressing "Menu" you can change it or something.
I notice that the home screen is customizable but not the four applications on the bottom, the call, email, browser and applications. How would I change those icons with different icons? Mainly the email and browser. How do I turn off or at least severly limit the data that goes to and from my phone. I do not have wireless and am just a bit paranoid about going over my data limit. I got the phone from work and this is my first smartphone so I am a bit nervous about anything I do on it.

I picked up the Captivate the other day and so far I love it but is there a way to assign custom non-Samsung message tones? I mean for texts and emails, calender alerts. When I open the apps and go to settings then change alert tone only the Samsung preloaded ones show up. I can choose any ringtone for calling, just not messaging. I downloaded several apps such as SMS Pop-Up and Chomp SMS to see if that would give me the option to choose any tone but no such luck. My last 2 phones have been a Blackberry Bold 9000 and a Backflip and both those phones had those capabilities. Anyone have any ideas?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am going crazy! Every time I try to text my wife's phone from my contacts, it removes the area code and errors out when trying to send. I have edited the contact info and sure enough it has the correct 10 digit number. I have tried deleting the her contact info and recreating it. No dice. I again deleted her contact info, went to her phone and sent a text to mine and replied. The incoming message has the correct 10 digit number. Replying again stripped the area code and tried to use the 7 digit number. Of course this failed.Any ideas? I need some help here. I am not sure if this is an issue with the phone or with AT&T.
