Samsung Captivate :: Set Default Name For Linked Facebook Contacts?

Aug 12, 2010

I have my Google contacts linked to their applicable Facebook contacts. I don't like that, when the names are different, it defaults to listing the contact under Facebook name. That means that it is no longer possible to search by Google contact name from within the phone application.

Anyone know if there is some way to override this?

Samsung Captivate :: Deleting Contacts From Sim Card

Aug 29, 2010

Am I missing something here? I had my contacts connected to my gmail, then decided to see if I could put them on the sim and still use a picture for them (protip, you can't :P) then I decided to go back to [g] contacts and thus would need to just delete the ones on the sim else I'd have multiple ones.

So off I trot, hold down for the context menu, hit delete and then BAM "Failed" er...what? I'm not allowed to delete my own contacts if they're on the sim card?! What, do I have to mount it to the pc and go looking for them or something? That's ridiculous if so, I'm hoping I'm just missing something obvious...

Android :: Best Reasonable Practice For Locally Storing Password?

Nov 3, 2010

I am considering adding a means by which my app can perform functions over Google Voice, and the functionality would make little sense if I required the user to type in a password.I'd like a reasonable plan for storing the password locally and sending it (through google-voice-java) when demanded by Google Voice.Clearly, I'd like to properly represent the risks of the chosen scheme honestly to the user. I'd like the storage to be based atop writing it into a SharedPreferences created with flags. What form of obfuscation is suitable, and with what available salting ingredients and such should I customize it?

Samsung Captivate :: Does Android Have Support For Apps That Can Use To Password Protect Certain Apps On Phone?

Jul 21, 2010

I'm new to Android. I recently was an iPhone fan but thought that Android was a better alternative to iPhone. So anyway, I have a few questions about the Captivate. Does Android have support for apps that you can use to password protect certain apps on the phone? Like messages, and photos for more private stuff. Another question I have: is the Captivates reception really bad? I currently have the iPhone 4 while it doesn't have the best of signal, its not too bad either. And my last question is if the captivate has support for 32gb cards. I'm sorry if someones already gone over these but I could find anything right away. Anyways, I look forward to Android and the Captivate.

how to apply to lag fix by partitioning my sd card. I followed the guide to the t using Paragon Hard Disk Manager. When I deleted my external SD card partition, it wouldn't let me re-partition it. Now my computer won't even recognize my phone. When I go into settings->SD card and phone storage, both the internal and external SD card show "Unavailable" under the space heading. The unmount and format options are greyed out as well. What do I need to do to get my phone back the way it was? Samsung Captivate : Phone SIM Card To USB ATT Modem?

Sep 9, 2010

I need to be able to get Internet in a remote area. I barely get a signal now on the captivate, if I stand on my head and rub my tummy at the same time.

Since I don't think there's a way to add an external higher gain antenna to the Captivate, I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck taking the SIM card out of the captivate and using it in a 3G USB device with any sort of an external antenna?

Samsung Captivate :: SD Card And Phone Internal Storage

Jul 28, 2010

When I look at the settings and "SD card and phone storage" option I see the different types of storage. Based on what I see, please verify the following assumptions are correct. The external SD card is obviously the one I added. I assume it can be used to store media files (via USB, direct write on a PC, etc.). I read until Froyo we won't be able to install apps on this card.
The internal SD card is what is built into the phone for apps and other things those apps write to the phone.

Looks like Google Listen writes to this area (can't make it write to the external SD and not sure why). It appears that the only things writing to there are my camera and of course any music, pics, or videos I load on there directly. Nothing else seems to make use of it. The internal phone storage is for things like the OS and is pretty much off limits. When I go into the "My Files" app on the phone it dumps me into the home directory which happens to be /sdcard. I assume this is the internal SD card? Under that directory it also has "/sd" which appears to be my external SD card. Why would they make it look like "/sd" is a subdirectory of "/sdcard" when it's not?

Samsung Captivate :: SIM Card Removed - Reboot Phone

Sep 10, 2010

I have the phone for about 2 weeks now, with 3-4 hours daily use. In the middle of a call this morning, it went silent and when turned on again, it displayed "SIM card removed. Reboot phone". I took the card out and put back in 3 times, but it still happens. Wi-Fi is working, phone is still running apps. I tried to press the SIM card tightly while trying to connect, but it's no good. A quick Google search does not show many people with this problem. Anyone has a quick solution before I call ATT or Samsung?

Samsung Captivate :: Managing Contacts Between Phone And Computer

Sep 10, 2010

I just recently switched from a Window Mobile phone to the Captivate and I am loving it thus far. Aside from the standard gripes about gps i have nothing to complain.

I am however having trouble comprehending how google syncs my contacts. I have my contacts set up exactly how i want them on my google account online i.e. co workers freinds family grouping. I would like my phone to display the contacts in the same fashion, but it seems the google sync is only one way from my phone to my account and not the other way around.

How can i get my contacts to sync from my google account so that they show up as i have them set up online without having to do every individual one on the phone.

Samsung Captivate :: Corporate And Phone Contacts Sync?

Oct 14, 2010

I have my Captivate hooked up to my company's Exchange server via ActiveSync. All is good there. My problem is that the handsfree bluetooth system in my car will only sync contacts with the Captivate's built-in Phone address book (vs the "Corporate" address book in Contacts Display Options).Right now, I have been exporting Corporate Contacts to the SD card and then importing them from the SD card into the Phone contacts. This can be a chore when I have to add/modify/delete a contact in my Corporate contacts as I have to delete all the Phone contacts and then redo the export/import every time there is a change. Is there anyway to sync changes automatically between the Corporate address book and the Phone address book? Am I overlooking something really simple?

Samsung :: Looking For Changing Password On Exchange / Captivate

Nov 9, 2010

I've had my Captivate synced to my work and school exchange server for about two months now. This morning, I had to change my work exchange password. However, on my phone....when I into Account Settings>Incoming Settings and try to change the password. I get "Two exchange accounts allowed". It seems it thinks I'm trying to setup a third account rather than change the password to the existing account.

How do I change the password? (I've thought about deleting the account....but my fear is that it will create another instance of calendar and contacts. which happened once before, also annoying...if anyone knows how to get rid of the old duplicated calendars.)
