I have little doubt that the battery problems would be solved by bumping out of cupcake. I actually like Touchwiz, but it seems to be causing a ton of problems. Once we get 2.0 from Samsung, I don't think we can rely on it to fix the little things. It's time to bump it up to stock ourselves. I'm no ROM cooker, but I'm willing to try. Now that we have persistent root, what next? How do we start making ROMs for this thing?
Does anyone know some places that have some good books or video tutorials or just generally good knowledge of creating android apps? If someone can hook me up with some info on at least what I need to know to create android apps that would be very appreciated.
Im confused about bh man and all these different revisions and roms and roots and such. What im looking for is a rom that will run a bit faster but leave the camera app alone. i personally like twiz but i'd like to try the phone without it. the problem is that i dont know if the camera app build in to the camera is twiz or not. i dont want to lose all the camera options. is there a rom that removes twiz but leaves the camera and its app alone? the camera the app for it and how it ran were the big selling points for me.
I just updated from R5 to R7 and I'm still having issues with the GPS. Specifically I'm using Google Maps/Navigate and they can't seem to find my location. The first day I flashed R5, it took a few minutes, but Navigate eventually locked on and started working. I just let it run for 45 minutes and it couldn't locate. Has anyone else has any trouble or success with GPS in the 1.6 ROMs?
I crashed it by messing around with one of the apps (I replaced an audio file then rebuilt and signed the app, and then the app crashed after it played the file), and the only way I could turn it off was to take out the battery. Now it won't start up again. It gets past the flashing Samsung animation, but then after that I just get a blank screen. The light behind the buttons stays on and I can't turn the phone off without taking out the battery.I've tried taking the SIM card out and pressing the volume down button, send button, then end button but the same thing happened.
1) If your phone is waking up repeatedly upon pressing lock, and you don't want to restart: HOLD LOCK & PRESS THE ROUND MIDDLE BUTTON!
2) Home++ Menu Restarting on each press, MANAGE APPLICATIONS+FORCEKILL. If you are feeling lazy and don't want to go into the Manage Apps Menu, simply bring up and 'return button' the menu 5 times, it'll lock up, and kill it from there.
I am currently running BH2 1.6 no twiz. I was thinking on trying the galazy 1.6 but on the BH2 1.6 no twiz thread. It says that flash boot and phone only once, why? I want to go back to 1.5. should I only flash PDA? Why BH_MAN says only flash boot, phone once?
Here is a brief much more complete guide to creating your own Odin images for distributing custom ROMs or making backups. Thanks to kam197, BH_MAN, chadmd23, SoulCreator, and all the other community members.
Requirements: A Samsung Behold 2 to backup/edit/test ROMs on Root via try3/asroot2, persistent su, or modified kernel Working ADB connection SD Card with ~300MB free Cygwin - if you are working in Windows Basic knowledge of a command line
Making the ROM Dump: The Behold 2 has 14 partitions in its flash memory, but only a few of these are useful to modify. You will want to focus on different partitions depending on what you want to do. After you make a ROM dump you will need to package it using the instructions in the following section before you can flash it. Backup your personal data? You may want to backup your data while trying out a different ROM. It is simple to do. Start an ADB shell session and obtain root access. Run the following command to dump the UserData partition: Code:
So I've had my Behold 2 for about 2 months now, and I've tried several different ROMs, but all of them have this same problem, apps always disappear after a reboot. Things such as google maps, navigation, places, springpad, dropbox, astrid tasks, handcent sms, even the android market sometimes is completely gone, not even in the apps list from settings. It only shows a white box with the green android, and when opened, it just says app not installed. If I reboot/pull battery some of the apps mix n' match for which ones to appear and not. After one reboot, dropbox will be gone, while on another springpad will be gone but dropbox is back.
So it's never the same. I'm currently using BHMAN's latest take5 ROM, and I've tried 1.6 no twiz, microhaxo's OTA 1.6 tweaked as well as bearsfan's all having similar results. Now when I first flashed a custom ROM, I used the unlockr's guide, and followed the rooting instructions there. Could it be that the rooted ROMs are interfering somehow with the already rooted phone? Is it possible to unroot the phone and flash back to stock 1.5 or 1.6? Then I would try flashing to one the latest ROMs.
I am getting the "Code: 10 - This device can not start" issue.
Running XP SP3
Looking at the device manager I see the following drivers installed under:
USB Controllers> Samsung USB Composite Device> - sscdbus.sys sscdwh.sys sscdwhnt.sys - What driver am I missing? I read that there should be four. One for adb? I have even tried selecting the adb driver and it still only installs the three. I build computers for a living and can not for the life of me figure this out.
I am looking to see if anyone (BH_MAN... ) has Alpha Recovery from the last BH_MAN ROMS dumped into an odin ready image. I am trying to get A2SD to work on the OTA, and I would like to be able to partition the SD card directly from the phone, which Alpha Recovery does...
i am trying to make a game for android but am finding it difficult. For my app i have made the menu screen, sound. But to make the actual game i am not sure where to start.I am not sure how to start making the game. I have seen some tutorials but they seem to be very confusing with all the coding.
I was wondering is there not some sort of graphical layout i can use to make the games a i did to create the buttons using the xml graphical layout in eclipse. It is for my final year project and i do not have much time left or i would have done it in flash.
My ideal place to get to is to eventually provide the community here with custom roms and mods which everyone can enjoy on their devices, just like what all the greats devs do here day in day out.... but before I get there, I'm on a path of discovery. At the minute, I want to take a XDA dev's already pre worked ROM, go in to it and change a few things up.... edit the apps, maybe play with a few apks, change the ringtones etc, and then resign the ROM and flash it to my device.
I've been reading some great tutorials such as [URL] ..... which I am finding very useful, however....
They seem to be geared towards someone working on a windows machine. I dont want to do it in Windows, I want to do it in Linux... I dont wish to use "CygWin" and I would rather do it manually than use a kitchen - I could easily follow these guides in Windows and achieve my stated aim of a slightly modified custom ROM, however, the overall goal here is to acquire knowledge, and enjoy the process as it goes along.
Now, my current understanding under Linux (Mint 13) is that I can download a recovery flashable Zip, go in to it, and just change up some of the files as I desire.... but then I get confused when it comes to repackaging the ROM prior to flashing it to my device. How would I go about doing this?
So I was looking through the stickies and I didn't really understand how to start rooting my phone or which of the directions to follow.. sorry if this has been asked a million times but could someone just point me in the direction I need to go to start the rooting? And can I uproot if I need to send my phone to t-mobile for something? Can they tell if I've rooted it? Sorry just a few questions on my mind before I root.
So I downloaded Linpack for Android and have been clocking between 7 and 8 Mflops for the last couple of days. I've got a Droid, running UltimateDroid 10, clocked at 1.0GHz, but I'm not getting anywhere near the guys that are getting up to 25 or even 52 Mflops.
I'm not greedy and I realize these are high extremes, but how do I start approaching these speeds?
Alright whats up people I was recently searching through and through for a way to get mobile internet without paying that ridiculous android price so as I was searching I stumbled across a regular behold forum at Samsung Behold Forum - New Proxy (TMobileX (Free Internet!)) - UPDATE: Analysis 01.07.10 -> 1500 Users because someone said free internet for it and I gave it a run to see if it would work with our behold 2 and surely enough it does.
Instructions on how to use proxy: Open up the (default) browser on your Samsung Behold. Type in the following address into the : tmo-x.co.cc/tmobilex/ Type in the address you want to visit in the form on the page and select whether or not you want to use my HTML trick (free; allows you to see sites in full HTML not 'WAP-stripped').
After many attempts to try and use the terminal emulator that is already preloaded onto the behold 2 , and many failures..After trying out different Terminal Em.'s and always having my phone lag because they wernt made for it...i have finally found a way to get terminal emulator working with no lag or no slow down in performance... First you must have root,of course, Next, Use an app called root explorer or something similar and goto the folder /system/app/ and find the two files Term.apk and Term.odex, and MOVE them to your sd card from your phone, you want them gone from your system/app folder After that simply goto the market and search for Terminal Emulator , re-download and there you have it, Working term. em. on the behold 2.Peace Ladz.
I have just recently bought a Behold 2 with the price drop. I like the phone except that it is very slow. So i would like to root it and run a factory1.6 no twiz rom on it, but I'm having issues while doing it!....
I was succesfully able to get adb to detect my phone serial. but whenever I type in: adb shell /data/local/try3 /system/bin/sh
This phone has the WORST idea for an sd slot. When trying to take out my sd card, i took off the cover that holds the sd card.I could use some pictures on how its supposed to look when connected. I have been trying to put it back on and all I ended up doing was bending it.I got my hands on an HTC Leo Windows mobile 6.5. Best implementation of an SD card slot ever.
Looks like samsung is getting tired of all the tweets asking about android updates for the behold 2 they just posted this on the samsung mobile twitter page:"Samsung Behold II users: At this time, we don't have information on an Android update for the Samsung Behold II.If we receive information on an update for the Behold II, we will be sure to keep everyone posted.
this was posted by samsung and is NOT in response to a question, they're just "keeping us posted." guess they are sick of us asking all the time, well...just give us a godd**n update then Sammy!!!!!
