Motorola Milestone :: Google Apps Mail Calender And Contacts Sync
Nov 16, 2010
so I just convinced my boss that we should switch from our costly Ms exchange solution to google apps, as it can do all the same stuff we need and more. We all have Android phones and I have set up my HTC Desire (Android 2.2 sense UI) to sync with my google apps account, no problem. However my boss have the Motorola Milestone, and his android version just wont sync with his google account. Every time I try adding a google account with his mail address (email@example.com), I just get a no network connection error. But I can browse internet and youtube just fine.I have searched the forums, and it seems other people can add their google apps accounts just fine, while some have problems.
I must be overlooking something.I am simply trying to get my phone to keep contacts synced with Google Contacts and I don't want "All" contacts just "My Contacts".Every time I send an email in Gmail, it automatically adds it to all contacts. It is going to bloat my phone.
My calender sync seems to have stopped. My company relies on Google Apps for our business communications, and normally everything works as expected. This morning, changes to my calender are no longer syncing from the cloud to my Droid. Interestingly enough, if I enter a new event on the Droid, it syncs to the cloud.
I have been searching Google and this forum but have not been able to find a solution. I have a Motorola Droid (running 2.2). My company uses Google Apps for their e-mail, calendar and phone directory. I have my personal Gmail account setup as the primary account on the phone and my corporate Google Apps account as additional account. I can see my mail, calendar and contacts just fine for both accounts. In Google Apps there is a corporate directory that I can search from while using it on my desktop. Is there a way to see the Google Apps Directory contacts on my Android phone contacts or elsewhere on the phone? If someone is not already in my own contacts, I would like to be able to lookup their phone number in the contacts on my phone from the Google Apps Directory. Is this possible? My boss has a Motorola Droid X with 2.1. Can this be done in 2.1 also?
I do NOT have WiFi in my home. I do have a PC that IS connected to the Internet. (I can get to some coffee shops where there is free WiFi, but not easily) Is there a way WITHOUT THIRD PARTY APPS - through USB - to connect my Android phone to my PC, and sync or bring down my Gmail, Gmail Contacts and Google Calendar. Maybe this is not true... but it seems, since the iPhone offers this functionality, that Google would also offer it. I realize the world is going wireless.... but (OK, I'm in another country), it's not quite there yet.
I want my Gmail account to stay added so I can sync my emails, but I'm not interested in having every email address I have ever emailed added to my phone contacts! How do I stop this? I have looked under Accounts & Sync > Google > - here it only gives 3 options "Sync calendar", "Sync contacts" and "Sync Google Mail". Under each one it says "Select to sync all" and if I press any of them it just updates & syncs. There is no option to remove the things (contacts) that I would not like synced!
When I am using Apps, IE. Facebook, Messing, or Browseing the web, I miss incoming calls, the caller (WIFE and others) goes directly to my voice mail, I have checked to see it the check box in the contacts section is check or not (the one that tells the contact to go to VM), and it is UNCHECKED, yet calls still goto VM, the even go to VM after i am done surfen or Texting, is there some way to tell the phone or a check box that i can check to accept all incoming calls no mater what i am doing, i have even called CS to see if CALL FWDing got turned on some how, they told me nope!
i searched for threads [keyword: google apps synch], and results yielded subjects ranging from apps [as in software] to syncing with a gmail account [vs. Google Apps account], and i looked at 'suggested' threads based on my thread title and tags added.does android have a native single sign-on/set-up wizard [vs.3rd party] to sync with my Google Apps domain and its related services [firstname.lastname@example.org] or does wizard only allow for "email@example.com" input?
I finally installing 2.1 with all English menus.that worked in china. However I cant get my contacts and calendar to sync with google. The mail client works fine with no hitches. But I cant add the google account.when I enter in the full server name:
the next button is grayed out.the only way it will let me proceed is if I remove the https:// and then it try to connect.but it then says :" unable to open connection to server"Any help for what is more than likely an extraordinarily simple problem?
In our company we are using Google Apps and I have a none branded Magic (delivered by 3 in Denmark) with Android 1.5 and a ROM with build number 2.16.401.5.In the phone's Calendar app I can create entries that will sync perfectly with any of my online Google Calendars but I can't create a new contact that will sync to my Gmail Contacts. On the phone there is only one Contact source (Phone) available.
I have a UK Motorola Milestone running Android 2.1-update 1. Yesterday all my contacts and my google accounts, to which they were synchronised, disappeared. Just like that, out of the blue.
I tried to add the google account again, but I keep getting a "can't establish reliable data connection" error. It is not a network access issue because internet and email (imap, not gmail) work fine, plus I tried with two different SIMs and with Wi-Fi, but to no avail.
I read about people deleting some files from their rooted Android and/or hard resetting their phones, but these fixes don't seem to always work and I'd rather try something else first.
I must say that, even though I like Android, I am getting very annoyed at how unreliable and buggy it has proven compared to my iphone and blackberry. Is it too much to ask to have a phone that doesn't reboot every other minute and that doesn't delete your contacts?
It did, now it doesn't! Anyone else had this problem? I haven't changed any settings. When I check my Google Calender on a PC, it had various new entries. However, sync icon on the phone stays on the menu bar for ages, but phone Calender doesn't update.
Is there a way to sync my MobileMe information (contacts, calendar etc) with the Google Apps? I know it can be done as easy as exporting and importing but I am looking for a solution where I can always keep them in sync without doing anything. I used to have an iPhone and I still have a MacBook and so I've been using MobileMe to keep everything in sync. I am soon getting a Nexus One and I want to make sure my MacBook and N1 stay in sync as well. Any ideas?
On my Droid there was a setting to only sync Facebook data for contacts who also were Google contacts. On the X, there doesn't seem to be that option anymore. I don't want all of my Facebook "friends" to show up in my contact list on my phone but I would like Facebook data to sync for my actual contacts in my Google contact list. Has anyone figured this out?
im new to the android and the forum. i need some help with google sync/gmail sync. i have synced my contacts once but i do not want to sync it anymore how do i disable contacts and calender sync on my android device now?
Is there a way to sync all my FB contacts with Google? I see the ones that I added manually to my phone added to Gmail, but I would really like to move all these emails in FB to Google (since the majority of contacts from my FB are email anyway).
I just got a milestone and tried out the google navigation, it pegged me int he right city like 4 seconds which is good, but then proceeded to say its only accurate to 5000m and said I was on the edge of town, when I was in fact in the center as a store, is there a way to improve accuracy? does it get better when you go into big cities? Can I change the tracker or something? Does it help if I leave the maps on quicker? I only left it open for about 15 seconds, someone said that the gps tracker is very slow, is there a way to change it? I am planning on rooting this phone very soon so let me know.
For people who want a fully automatic way to keep both Calendar & Contacts sync'd both ways between Outlook and Google Gmail / Calendar.
I've already done a lot of research on this topic as it is currently the most important item I've got to have working in order to keep the Droid. It seems like nobody really has a great solution yet, but there are some in the works. This thread can serve as a master list for Outlook sync software.
Here is what I've found so far:
CompanionLink $40 (released, sounds like the best currently available): Sync Microsoft Outlook with your Google account and your phone | CompanionLink
Missing-Sync $40(update: Released. Calendar syncing is now supported, but requires additional app installed on phone.): Keep your life in sync with The Missing Sync for Android from Mark/Space Appears to be the best all-in-one solution for syncing Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Docs, Media and more. Includes 'Proximity Sync' - syncs wirelessly & automatically w/ your computer.
gSyncit $15 (released, but lots of problems reported by users. EDIT: Some favorable reviews in this thread, may have improved reliability): http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/
SyncMyCal $25 (released): Share Outlook Calendar Free, Google Calendar Sync, Pocket Outlook Google Sync - SyncMyCal
Anybody using this?
OGG Sync $30/yr (Not yet released): OggSync - Sync Google Calendar and Contacts with Outlook and Windows Mobile Device Sync (including Microsoft Office) Blog Archive Real... Native... Google Contact Sync — OggSync 4.0
Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook $50/yr (Requires Google Apps Premier or EDU Edition):[url]
Are there any good free apps out there that can sync Contacts? Tell me and I'll add them to the list.
I have 2 gmail accounts. Unfortunately, one of them is for my calendar and contacts and the other is for my personal e-mail. As of now, my cal and contacts are syncing fine but I do not use the e-mail account that is associated with thier username. I have my other account (personal e-mail) set up sepeartely....along with a few other e-mail accounts(work and etc.). I would like to know if i can leave my cal and contacts setup on the regular droid sync account but change the e-mail account to my personal acct. so it will "push" by default with out having it in a seperate palce on the droid. I know this is confusing but i dont know how else to explian it.
My Google calender has synced with no problems. The monthly view shows each day white and the days with appointments show what looks like a green slider. However one day, this past Monday is gray. I have looked at my main Google calender and there is nothing different for this day then other days through the month. I am able to click on the gray day on both the main calender and on the Droid and it will open up. Does anyone else have something like this?
I have had a Milestone running Android 2.1 for about a week.
Just thought I'd share the list of my favourite apps:
k-9 email (the only Android email client with imap idle push email, afaik) k-9 data killer (widget to turn push email on/off) Email Popup (for K-9 email): pops up a small box every time a new email is received SMS Popup (as above, for text messages) pure calendar widget remember the milk (to do list; Astrid is a free alternative, and connects to the RTM servers, too) Websms (with fishtext connector): sends cheap sms with fishtext ContactsGroupU: shows contacts by group a online radio ColorNote Fring (skype, messenger etc) Quicksettings EboBirthday battery indicator (Darshan computing) Profiles (egg 'n stone) KeePassDroid (keepass password manager) Multilang dictionary Google translate yxflash (to watch divx videos) Startup auditor (checks which apps start at boot up) android mate (organizes apps by category) any cut: customizable shortcuts B&B droidlight: turns your droid into a flashlight Dailystrip: daily comic strip
I just got my G1 a few days ago and was looking for mail, contacts and calendar push, not wanting to use Goo.I found this: www.interways.net.They offer all that and integrate into Outlook, Apple Macs just fine. You can even keep Windows and Mac computers and your phone all in sync.Just a tip for those of you who are interested in syncing mail, contacts and calendars online.
I just got a google apps account at work and added that email to my phone and now my battery drains fast and Google is the culprit according to battery status. Also seems like the sync wheel is on all the time at top of screen.
Is there a way to auto sync my Google Mail with my G1 hourly, but not sync my contacts? (They seem to erase sometimes). I'm on 1.6 OS. I also have ATT email (my home DSL accounts) and I am able to use the Android email program effortlessly there - I can set to auto check 15, 30, hourly etc with no problem. Is there an option to do the same with Gmail? All I can find is to auto sync Contacts, Gmail and calendar. Since one time google ate my calendar and contacts, I'm a little hesitant to ever sync them again.
