Motorola Droid 2 :: Screen Freeze Droid2

Aug 17, 2010

So this morning, the alarm goes off on my Droid2 and everything is fine. About an hour later the screen froze and would not unlock or slide. It was absolutely frozen. I was using the stock charger last night. I took it by a Verizon store and the rep pulled the battery and then it started back up with no problem. The big problem is he took ATK (free pre installed version) and killed all the apps and proceeded to tell me how I had to do this. I said "dude, their was nothing running last night and I have not even downloaded any new apps, etc..." I just got the phone on Friday of last week. I really am not a fan of ATK and he tried to tell me if I don't do this, the phone will freeze.

Motorola Droid 2 :: Upgrade From Droid To Droid2?

Nov 25, 2010

Perhaps I will regret posting this in that the answer is obvious, and I am not very bright, but I'd like to get some help upgrading from Droid 2 from Droid. Both are Verizon phones.I understand that my personal data will move as it is tied to my gmail account that runs my phone. So moving that is easy. But what about all my apps, my pictures, the messages I kept in my visual voicemail application? When I asked Verizon, the rep said I should just use the SD card from the Droid in the Droid 2. Is it really that simple? If moving the SD card is the solution, what do you do if you want to upgrade to a larger SD card?

Motorola Droid 2 :: Useful Comparison B/w Droid 1 / Droid2

Aug 18, 2010

Seems like I got NO actual feedback from the useless reviews of the droid 2 so far so I'm listing the differences that I have noticed on mine so far.
1: it loads up all your old apps and updates them automatically upon activation, all my droid replacement refurbs didn't do this
2: its faster (can't tell how much until I've used it for a few weeks) but transitions through screens are smoother
3: it comes with motoblur supposedly, I don't even know what this is, so I can't tell any difference, thus anyone who wants a droid 2 but to have it operate like a droid 1...mine does...so uhhh I don't get it.
4: the graphics are different, icons are different, I like both the droid 1 on 2.2 and the droid 2, they are similar but the colors are often reversed in a lot of menus
5: ergonomically it feels better, camera button and volume button are much better feeling.
6: battery door cover looks almost identical but the foam is thicker and it is on their tighter than any of my 4 droid 1's
7: keyboard is much more tactile with the raised buttons and I like the arrows much better than the dpad, however I'll use the pre-installed swype for most my typing since that's what I'm used to.
8: calendar still doesn't scroll in month mode LAME only scrolls in week mode
9: camera mode is faster on droid 2..I think....I initially started it and droid 1 took 10 seconds to load, but after a battery pull they are closer in speed, so hard to say if there's an actual difference.
10: the unlock swipe takes longer on the droid 2...dunno why
11: on droid 1...gmail would always get confused on conversations that were of the same subject line for example if the subject was blank, it would combine emails from different senders....and it wouldn't show the correct email unless you got in the emial out and back in, droid 2 doesn't have this problem, it just shows EVERY email in the list, and you can scroll from oldest to newest...big improvement
12: start up time from power on is about 2 seconds faster on droid 2...not really a marked difference
13: all the icons are different...I actually perfer all the icons on the droid 1 versus the droid 2...but i'm not that 14: forgot to mention they changed the order and icon for the menu / back / home / search buttons on the screen...this is just annoying..why did you have to change the order...lol..I'm used to my back being all the way on the left, now it's 2nd from the right.
15: the alarm is much improved, it used to switch between portrait and landscape as you try to snooze thus cancelling the alarm, it now functions where the entire screen is the snooze and in order to cancel you have to slide to unlock...so to speak
15: Gallery is improved, it allows scrolling up and down with the slider that's found in contacts and it references the dates the pics were taken so you know how old of pics you're searching through
16: Camera has integrated gps function to show where photo was taken
17: separate camcorder app
18: power, volume, and camera buttons feel much better, fit and finish is much tighter
19: usb fits much tighter then before
20: speed while loading memory heavy application is greatly improved such as raging thunder 2, the load time is about 5 seconds faster.
21: has DNLA so you can share photos / audio / video with tv's or computers of the same DNLA technology
22: the market is different: shows comments in their own window AND allows for automatic updating, you can select this per app, I don't remember this being on my 2.2 droid 1???

Android :: Nexus One 'CPU May Be Pegged' Bug

Jun 24, 2010

I'm writing a graphically intense game for the Nexus One, using the NDK (revision 4) and OpenGL ES 2.0. We're really pushing the hardware here, and for the most part it works well, except every once in a while I get a serious crash with this log message:The entire system locks up, repeats this message over and over, and will either restart after a couple minutes or we have to reboot it manually. We're using Android OS 2.1, update 1.

I know a few other people out there have seen this bug, sometimes in relation to audio. In my case it's caused by the SharedBufferStack, so I'm guessing it's an OpenGL issue. Has anyone encountered this, and better yet fixed it? Or does anyone know what's going on with the SharedBufferStack to help me narrow things down?

Android :: Lock_layer Timed Out (is CPU Pegged)?

Nov 18, 2009

I have a situation occurring intermittently with an application where I receive the following message. It's probably something to do with a Thread. The application seems to stop, but I get the following message and I'm not sure what it means: WARN/SurfaceComposerClient(2106): lock_layer timed out (is the CPU pegged?) layer=1, lcblk=0x424800a0, state=00000043 (was 00000043). I see others have had this issue, but I don't see a solution or explanation (that I can understand :-) ).

Motorola Droid X :: Various Battery Life

Dec 1, 2010

I have had my DX since it came out in July. I work in a Rural area in a Cinderblock and brick building so my reception when I am at work sucks to say the least which I know kills my battery, but I have tweaked it enough that I get about 18 hours of battery life during a normal day. The problem I have noticed is that about once a week my battery goes from 80% to 10% in about 20 minutes and the back of the phone gets warm. If I pull the battery for about 10 min. It works fine for another week or so. Any one else seeing something like this?

Motorola Droid :: End Of Life For Dinc?

Aug 29, 2010

WTF we are just getting into this phone and now verizon is thru with it. The Dinc will only be just over a year old and no more, bye bye. (Phones may see end of life in March 2011)Posted on Wednesday, Aug 25, 2010 by Phil Nickinson A handful of Verizon Android smartphones appear to have their end-of-life dates hung over their heads. Phones that already have shuffled off this mortal coil are the HTC Droid Eris (June 16) and original Droid (August 6).

And a handful of phones -- the Droid Incredible, LG Ally, Droid 2 and Droid X -- apparently are slated for EOL on March 31, 2011. (Edit: Yes, 2011, not 2010.) That's give the Droid Deuce a mere seven-month lifespan, which isn't out of the question, given that the original Droid isn't even a year old yet.
Then there's the Motorola Devour, whose EOL date is listed as March 1, 2011. Only, we've already seen it listed as being under EOL, and we'd be very surprised if that March date is correct. So what does that mean? Who knows. And who knows how firm these March 2011 dates are. And either way, it's not like your phone will stop working come next spring. [Phone]

Motorola Droid :: Droid Saved Weekend / Stories From Real Life

Nov 23, 2009

Trip this weekend to a competition my son was involved in...we had to drive about 150 miles to another city, navigate between four different locations while up there, and then get back home the next day. The previous year when we'd gone to this event we had gotten lost twice and actually missed being able to watch most of one event we were so late. So the pressure was huge to avoid a similar situation this year.I set up nav shortcuts on one of my home pages to each of the four locations in the other town the night before. So in the morning we pulled out of the garage, I tapped the icon for the first destination and off we went, faultlessly directed to our hotel.

On the way there, my wife says "I'd really like to hear some music, do you have any Elton John?" (So sue her, she's a child of the 70's. ) "Nope," says I "but I think I know where we can find some." So I tell her how to fire up Slacker on the Droid and she enters "Elton John" and a few seconds later she is rocking to the sound of "Crocodile Rock" and various other artists she likes.Nav interrupted Elton et al when necessary to provide directions.Used the shortcuts the rest of the weekend to move between the four locations w/out fault. Looked up traffic a few times to decide whether to bail on a route or not.No screams of "What street do I turn on, what street!?!" from me, and no wails of "I can't tell, I can't tell - Oh the humanity!!!" from my wife. Pure wedded bliss maintained, with Slacker providing the 70's soundtrack for the our weekend montage.

Motorola Droid X :: Best Battery Life Of Phone

Jul 19, 2010

I have had this phone for a little over 4 days now and it is by far the best smart phone on battery life that I have ever owned. Yesterday was the best day yet, I pulled the phone off the charger at 7am yesterday and forgot to put it back on the charger before I crashed out last night. This morn I was woken up to its alarm clock, got ready, headed out to work and the last 20% warning ding'd at 6:45 this morning. My use through out the day consisted of a few short phone calls, the wifi was on all day, I played an hours worth of home run derby, I watched a few you tube videos, surfed a little net, and I have all my accounts synced up to the Motorola widgets (facebook, myspace, yahoo, hotmail, google, and twitter). I also have a live wallpaper running, lots of widgets on my home screens, and I am running the automatic battery profile ( default factory setting). Oh and my phone service is not that great at my house. In the end I my battery never hit the "red" and was a little over 24 hours of battery life before I put it on the charger. I have read threads about poor battery performance and I cant imagine why my battery performance is so good, and with such a huge screen. With that amount of use, I would only get about 12 hours of battery life from my Droid 1.
