First I'd like to say I don't know how I ever typed without Swype. Whoever thought of it is pure genius so I love that. However can someone tell me how to turn off the clicking noise when I press a letter? I like the vibrate to let me know that I touched it but could do without the Storm-esque click. There was one more but I forgot it at the moment.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation. It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait). As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements: - Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1) - Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install: 1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard. 2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app 3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below: -- User: 'Read/Write' checked --Group: 'Read' checked --Others: 'Read' checked 4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update: - Added option to disable notification icon -' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs: -On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
just wondering if this is normal or not, someone told me it is normal for the droid.for instance - when your on the home screen and you hold the camera button down, it'll make about 3-clicks when starting up. it also makes the clicking noise when it is focusing before taking the photo. the most noticable is when using an app like shopsavvy or barcode scanner are these apps supposed to be focusing back and forth non stop? and if so, is it 'normal' for that clicking noise to go non-stop while it is focusing back and forth?
on my droid x whenever the phone vibrates either when im clicking something, getting a text or a incoming call. the phone makes a buzz noise. also i noticed the phone does not vibrate as heavy as it should and is not as noticable when its in your pocket with the sound off. i used a droid 1 and a droid incredible in the past and both of those the vibration was quieter. so im wondering are everyones droid x like this or does mine just have a defective vibration mechanism or something?
is it normal for the camera to make a clicking noise. for example when im on my home screen and i hold the camera button to open it the camera makes a couple of clicking sounds am i the only one with this problem or is this all droids.
If you have your droid closed, and you press the down firmly where the search button is located does your droid make a clicking noise like its hitting the top of the keyboard? when i push the right side of the phone firmly it makes the noise and feels looser. is this because i took the plastic off the back of the keyboard? if i want to exchange at best buy should i use their insurance? if i do exchange should i just tell them it reboots in case they dont want to replace because of this noise? Or is this noise/touching normal?
Dont get me wrong, the QWERTY keyboard is sick, and I love it. But after typing on the keyboard for while, I wanted to switch it up, so I tried the on screen key pad. And to my surprise, the on screen keyboard appears to be much quicker than using the QWERTY!
Just uninstalled better keyboard. Went back to reinstate android keyboard now I can't get the onscreen keyboard up at all. Don't the batt pull. Settings are all set properly and saved. I am going nuts here without it.
I can toggle it from the IMM but can't seem to detect the current state. In any event, there must be a cleaner way - after I get some text input from the user I want to restore the screen without making them press the back key.
I have a couple quick questions about the Sense keyboard on my Incredible. 1. I'm coming from an iPod Touch keyboard and have been continuously hitting the period that is next to the space bar. Does anyone know if there is any way to remove certain keys from the keyboard? I really don't need a period and comma right next to the space bar on the alpha side. I know it's nit picky, but I like having a bigger space bar. 2. I've noticed when logging into websites that require a Username and Password that I am having to remove the keyboard when I go from the Username field to the Password field. On my iPod there was a "Next" feature that would automatically advance the cursor. Am I missing something on the Incredible? Didn't see anything available for switching data fields.
If I tap it the softkeyboard will popup however when I press "enter/ok/return" then the EditText control it still has focus and the keyboard up. How do I close the softkeyboard and remove focus from it?
I have a screen where the first field is an EditText, and it gains the focus at startup, also popups the numeric input type, which is very annoying. How can I make sure that when the activity is started the focus is not gained, and/or the input panel is not raised?
I am using an LG Nexus 4 device with the stock Android keyboard. When texting, composing e-mails, or engaging in most functions with a keyboard, there is a smiley key on the bottom left corner next to the period. Is there any way to remove or change that key?
I use the period often, and sometimes hit that smiley key by accident. A few times in the last week, I sent serious messages and, instead of ending the sentence with a period, I ended it with a smiley. Those made for awkward moments.
By the way, I have tried Swype and SwiftKey and prefer the Android keyboard with gesture-typing. I am not interested in installing an app with a supposedly better keyboard.
GMail is almost unusable when composing a message - the Send and discard and Save buttons take up more room than you get space to type, resulting in just 3 or so lines of visible text. To make it worse, the typing font is massive.
Does anyone know how to...
1) Remove the stupid Send/Discard/Save buttons above the keyboard. Clicking the menu soft-key brings up those options anyway, meaning they literally are nothing but a waste of typing space
2) Change the font size, so we can see more text as we type. When reading a message, the font is much smaller and still very readable...
3) Change the keyboard to something shorter, gaining more room to see messages we composes
I got this phone to GMail with so this is pretty annoying.
