Motorola Droid :: Numeric Keyboard For Texting?

Jan 20, 2010

I have had a slider phone for years and could text super fast. Then I switched to an Eris where I had the option of using the qwerty keyboard on landscape OR I could hold it upright and use the numeric keyboard with T9 like I did on my slider. I always held it upright and was very happy. I was having reception issues with my eris so I traded it for a Moto Droid. Is there an option for the numeric type of keyboard becuase it takes me friggin forever to type a text.

Android :: Numeric-only Soft Keyboard

Oct 20, 2009

How can I set numeric-only soft keyboard option for a text field? When I set the input-type to "number" it brings a soft keyboard which is actually a alpha-numeric one but already switched to numeric mode. What I want is a pure numeric soft keyboard with big numbers (no alphabets at all). I've already seen this in other applications and but don't know how to do it.

Android :: Numeric Soft Keyboard

I am developing an android application where we are using WebView to display Web page being served from Web Server. Everything is working fine except with the problem that when i am using the soft keyboard and switched to numeric key entry and move from first field to next field, the keyboard layout automatically changed to alphanumeric.

Is there any way using which i can pull up virtual keyboard in numeric mode only when i need to enter numbers only?

Android :: Allow Only Decimal Numeric Input / Use Phone Soft Keyboard?

Apr 21, 2010

I am trying to do something that I thought would be simple, yet I still haven't found the right approach. I have a Edit Text field that should only accept unsigned decimal entries. Using android:input Type="number Decimal" in my layout xml file achieves this, however the soft keyboard that is raised with this input Type is the standard keyboard but just uses the alternate view with the number row on top. This is far from ideal for a field that only allows numbers. A much better soft keyboard for numeric entry is the "phone" one. It has all of the numbers and a decimal. Perfect!! Well, except that for the life of me I cannot figure out how to use both the phone keyboard AND allow only numeric entry. I've tried everything I can think of but if I use the phone soft keyboard then the input field also allows things like "(" and any of the other symbols available on that keyboard. Is there any way to get the nice big numeric buttons of the phone keyboard along with only allowing decimal entry? My wife and I both have Moto Droids. She has been having a problem where, occasionally, people that she sends text message to tell her that that the message arrives with non alpha/numeric characters and instead are either (a) blank, or (b) filled with special characters and the original message is not sent.

I found a thread that says blank messages may be caused by draft items, but nothing about special characters.

Motorola Droid X :: APP - ROOT - Keyboard - Keyboard Manager - Dual Keyboard - Portrait - Landscape Switch

Nov 10, 2010

I tried it and it works so far.

Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.

From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers

Verbage:

Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.

Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.

To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer

The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion

Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.

The app is still in development.

Android :: Convert EditText Component From A Text Field To Numeric In Droid?

Oct 1, 2009

If I have an EditText component on my screen that I have specified inputType="decimal" for (i.e. a numeric/decimal field), what is the best way to convert it to an decimal value in the application code?

Google recommends avoiding floats, and avoiding creating objects unnecessarily (and I assume any auto-unboxing code is bad too), so I take these as my constraints. I realize a small application probably doesn't need to worry too much, but I haven't been able to find a 'best-practice' solution to this.

The most common solution appears to be this:

double value = Double.parseDouble(txtInput);

Android :: Motorola Driod - Email Texting And Video

Apr 11, 2010

Here go my top 10 problems with DROID.

1) EMAIL no empty the trash? I have over 1000 emails in the trash and I cant empty them.

2) EMAIL You can EASILY open an email trying to check it.

3) EMAIL No way to create filters to separate emails and create JUNK filters.

4) EMAIL You can easily open an email trying to scroll. Seems like we need a safe area on the left or right so we can scroll without opening the email.

5) Text Messaging. You cant copy a sent message or a portion of it? This doesn't seem possible and is very irritating. I cant forward a message either.

6) Text Messaging something read a text message for me? Like a text to voice reader? This can help with all the driving rules.

7) Text Messaging An automatic reply that can be turned off or on to inform users you are on the road.

8) Video Player. I like to play movies but have often noticed audio drift on several
videos. SO the video player needs a way to delay or advance audio to match the video like VLC has.

9) Video Player ZOOM I need custom zoom sizes so I can play video and resize them to FIT the video window irrespective of the aspect ratio. The screen it too small to care.
I want to digitize my video at 320x480 and zoom it up why not so I can get more video on my phone.

10) WEB Browser Last complaint for today.. FLASH WHERE THE $^$%#& is the FLASH support that was promised by Adobe?

11) WEB Browser Shouldn't you be able to copy text from a web page to use in a search?

WHY cant I view pages without being classified into special class?

I love the phone but it really lags from where I expected it to be at this point. With so many developers maybe its hard to find the good stuff?
