I entered in my gmail information to my new droid and it sync'd with my contacts on gmail, all 5 of them, 'deleting' my previous contacts. I say 'deleting' loosely because when I look through my contacts none are there, however if someone sends me a text it has them saved with their number. Is there a way to restore/retrieve my contacts?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been reading up on the concept of push email, and how it's supposed to be a huge battery saver (since in theory, the phone would only receive a notification of an e-mail, and not the actual e-mail itself). I have also been reading up on how the "Gmail" app's version of Push email is not the same as other Push e-mail software, in that it requires the phone to "Sync" whenever an e-mail hits the Gmail server. As a result, whenever I would try to turn Auto Sync off (supposedly to save battery), I would no longer be able to get my e-mail notifications in real time.
With this in mind, I attempted to find another application that would enable me to use Push email for my Gmail account, without having to "Sync" with Gmail's server. After messing around for a bit, I found that I could manually input my Gmail account info (Incoming Server, Outgoing Server, Username, Pass, Etc.) into the stock "Email" app that comes with the X. Once this was done, I was able to enable "Data Push" in the "Email" app's Settings menu (as well turning off any Polling intervals). By doing this, I was able to receive new Gmail notifications through the "E-mail" app, even when Auto Sync had been turned off. As a bonus, I received them around 15 seconds faster than I did with the "Gmail" app's version of Push.....
I woke up after a nap this afternoon (you know, after coloring but before recess ) ... and i had received a text and i went to reply and my auto correct didnt know the word 'you' 'eat' and a few others and i am sure there are many more i will find. i do not know how to fix it. i guess i will just have to work through it and add the words it doesnt know.
But also if i type 'lol' then by default 'LOL' will come up if i press space unless i manually go up and select 'lol' in the little word list predict thing <--yes, that is the actual HTC given name , this is also the case for many other words and if i add the word to the dictionary it still might not use it automatically. even if i spell it right and it is in the list it may use another word when i press space.
When I'm ordering something on the internet using my Droid X and highlight the initial form field, my keyboard opens, but I lose the ability to see the webpage. No big deal until I have a form that requires multiple entries (Last Name, First Name, etc) at which point I have multiple data field boxes that need to be completed, but no way to see exactly what data is being requested in each box. Is there a way to set the keyboard so that only one data box shows at a time, or so that I can close the keyboard after each entry so that I can see the next box on the webpage?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't know if this is possible on the X, but how do I calibrate the touch screen? I've noticed two things that are beginning to drive me crazy. The first is that it is so sensitive at times, if I pass my finger over a button without actually touching the screen, it thinks I pressed it and executes the function. Second, I noticed that the spot I touch actually is off a bit so when I try to hit a link from a list (such as a thread here) it will pick the one above it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThere are 2 little boxes at the top of my Droid (where the "you have a message" icon shows up) and these 2 little boxes look like underlined check marks. What are these icons? I am sure they are notifications of some form, but alas, I am lost.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to limit my mobile data usage with out jumping through hoops.
I'm looking for a widget, that with one click of a button, it can restrict background data, disable auto-sync and enable mobile data, and when pressed again, enable WiFi, disable background restriction and enable auto-sync.
This function, no matter how trivial, would save time and effort.
Is there anything like this out there? Would something like this require root?

just started 2 days ago, everything but my gmail contacts will sync. it's so bad that the battery dies in a matter of hours due to the constant sync. I turned off auto sync until somebody fixes this. just wondered if I am the only one
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen using Google Hangouts to text on my Nexus 5, every time I enter a web url the string is spell checked and becomes un-clickable. Example:If I type: "whatismyandrioidversion.com" into a txt/sms chat using hangouts, the string is spell checked and auto corrected to "what is my android version.com".
So, then I have to go through a very annoying process of deleting the spaces between each word and fixing the url before I send the message.
So one of the cool things about Froyo is being able to check off Enable Automatic Update for market apps. So i have that checked off for like 80+% of my 80+ apps (that took a while to do let me tell you). Now i have had three apps have updates available since i checked off the box, yet they never actually automatically updated. I waited, hours, still never updated. Is there a setting i need to modify? Do i need to tell it what time of day to do it? Anyone else noticing this? I only really want it in apps that i don't care about reading the new features. But it is annoying that i have it enabled and it does nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone else have the same problem? When I use the default email client from captivate, even when I set the checking period as every 10mins, I won't get new emails unless I open the app and manually refresh, well, except the one of gmail. This happens on my yahoo email, hotmail and my school email, which all worked fine on my old iphone. People have talked about yahoo mails won't be accessible through wifi from Android, which happens on mine too. But even when I was at 3G, the email client won't auto check it either. I have tried K9 email client, it doesn't work either. The only thing I find work is the MailDriod, but the function of this app is very limited, it won't even open attachments by default. Does anyone else here have the same problem, or maybe an idea to fix the default email client? Also, I find when I use the ear set make calls, when I try to click the button on the ear set, it won't hang up the call as my iphone would. Is this a bug or just something Andriod can't do? The button on the ear set seems quite useless with Captivate, it can only control to play or pause by single click when play music, won't do song change when doule click it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I have the nexus 3D gallery app installed on my 2.1 Eris. It works fine other than it refuses to generate thumbnails sometimes. They just show up as grey boxes. Once it finally does generate the thumbnails, it's fine, but sometimes they just won't generate. For example, I took some pics this past Sunday and the thumbnails are still just showing up as grey boxes. It takes several cycles of closing gallery, opening gallery, closing, opening, etc. etc. to get it to finally generate all the thumbnails, then they're fine. Oh, and sometimes they don't show up at all. Seems this app is very buggy on the Eris.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a DX running the 2.2 OTA. I rooted my phone but did nothing else (no deodex, no custom anything.) I did rename some of the default apps to disable them but backed up before. Now, here is my question. I want to check for updates (I know where are none, but I keep hoping there will be to fix all the little bugs Froyo seems to have) and I get a "Check for update was not available at this time." I get this EVERY TIME.
Could this be a problem from rooting? Is anyone else having this issue? And yes, I did disable the wifi only updating in settings, so it isn't that.
how often does this app check for aol mail..i couldnt find settings anywhere for that unlike the built in email app

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to the whole android scene and just got my G1 and love it so far. Quick question though: I do not have a data plan therefore my emails are not constantly syncing and such. I was wondering if there is an application that would make my wifi turn on at a set time and for a set length of time in order to fetch and sync and then turn off. This would be very useful especially in the morning right before I wake up so that when I first pick up my G1 in the morning the new emails have been synced.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing the FaceBook (FB) app on the EVO 4G is a great feature. Allows you to get numbers of your friends on FB without being in your contact list. Has their FB picture show up when they call etc.
Problem:
Cannot save numbers in my contacts if sync'd with FB.
Example: Friend gives me her number (that I currently do NOT have in my contacts)
I dial her number, it comes up with her name and her FB picture (because she has her mobile number linked to her FB account).
Now I cannot save this number to my contacts from call history because it shows up as if it is already there. I can dial her number again then hit add contact and that works just curious if there is a way to do it from text's or call history so I don't have to keep re-typing the number just to save it.

View 1 Replies View Relatedon my old phone (palm treo 755) i had a checkbook app that i used daily. i have tried several finance apps on the market, but none seem to do what i want. i have tried the following:
checkbook genius
easymoney
checkbook
dgmoney
with the old program i could create budgets, set up future payments/deposits, show & hide transactions from the transaction list (ie hide cleared items) and display acct balance on a specific day the apps i've tried so far do make decent checkbook registers, but i miss the flexibility of my old app. anyone know of or have experience with another app that could do all this? i have no problem paying for an app that does all this.
