View 12 RepliesReally enjoying the new Droid X so far (my first smartphone), but I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of all this horrible bloatware. I cannot even see the apps to uninstall through the settings on the phone, and trying to uninstall them through appbrain just gives an uninstall error. Anyone know if it's possible to remove them?
View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing Ti Backup, what are some of the bloatware apps we can safely uninstall?
Apps that are safe to remove (so far):
Amazon MP3
Twitter
Facebook
Email
Visual Voicemail
Google Goggles
News and Weather Widget
Home Screen Tips
I swear, I did a lot of searching before posting... The best resource I found was this: xda-developers - View Single Post - Apps that are OK to remove with root But does that require toast's root method? If so, anyway to uninstall bloatware with the unrevoked root method? Also, could someone link me to or list the apps that cannot be uninstalled.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems to be common practice for service providers to bog down their newest phones with bloatware. I've read some information on these forums that seems to indicate that the Evo comes with a lot of sprint programs installed, IE bloatware. I'm a current blackberry user and one of the perks of having one is that I was able to remove all of tmobiles useless, bloatware apps from day one so I could use the phone's memory on programs that I wanted. Now, my question is, is there is a simple uninstall feature that would allow me to unistall programs like sprint tv, sprint nav, etc? Or would I have to root the phone to be able to uninstall those apps?
View 23 Replies View RelatedI just installed appbrain, and it shows bloat like cityID and VZ navigator. It also shows an uninstall option as well. Theoretically, can you Sync with AppBrain, uninstall all that bloat, then perform installs again when you need restore the bloat (for when updating or anything)? Haven't tried this yet but just wanted to see if others have.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhy do ROMS get broken and phones not startup when delete bloatware that we got preinstalled on the phone?
case in point - my friend recently rooted his phone.. the first thing he did was use Titanium Backup to delete some of the preinstalled apps that came with his phone. That broke his phone and he cudnt boot it! (later he got it fixed by flashing the stock ROM again) But why does this sort of thing happen???
I successfully rooted the phone. My main reason (initially) is so I can delete some of the bloatware that came with it. I've looked through some of the threads that talk about how to uninstall some of this stuff, and I'm at a loss. Is there any way someone can explain how to uninstall bloatware applications in noobtard terms? I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance from your friendly neighborhood noob. For the record, I'm technically savvy, I've just never done this before and don't really know where to begin.

When I originally rooted my phone (I had 2.1 at the time), I was able to remove all the bloatware i didnt want by going into Root Explorer and changing each application's file extension from .apk to .bak.
Now, with Froyo, I tried to do the same thing, but the only apps that show up in /data/app are the ones that I have installed off the market.
Am I looking in the correct directory? How do I go about removing all this crap in Froyo?
Just got my new Droid X. It's freakin' sweet Already rooted it but I have a question. How do you install apps that require root? Also, I heard with root it's possible to delete the bloatware that comes with Droids? How can I do that?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been a big fan of android since I heard about it a few years ago and when my carrier finally got a android phone I jumped at it. The day the Motorola droid came out I bought it. The Motorola Droid is a great device and I am really happy with it. Fast forward last week I bought a Droid X for my girl friend and at first we both thought it was an amazing device. But after using it some more I noticed all the CRAP that comes with the phone.(she will never use skype and all the other junk) I am mad at google for letting companys like Motorola add all this useless crap on a phone with no way of removing it. Also the battery only lasts a few hours with only twitter and facebook installed on the device? Without rooting it does anyone else know a way to remove these apps?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was trying to get my phone prepared to update to 2.2 and I wanted to reinstall the bloatware. I did something stupid. I went into adb shell, went to the system/app folder and did "mv *.bak *.apk" which basically destroyed everything in that folder. At that moment, I tried to RSDLite flash my phone the SBF but it wouldn't take. Phone froze up, couldn't do anything and, of course, I get the Droid animation when booting infinitely due to nothing being in /system/app I can reboot into recovery and connect the phone to my PC, but nothing really seems to happen. I imagine I could recover the phone if someone made an update.zip which restored the default apps into the /system/app folder, but I don't have an update.zip of that nature. Even the Verizon ones I have seem to look for old versions of the files. Does anyone have or can tailor an update.zip which would restore the system/app folder for me? I think that, if you could do that, I could be saved. Otherwise, I think I am screwed, unless someone has another option for me.

View 10 Replies View RelatedMoto was all about stating how unobtrusive this me blur was but from a quick look with system tools all the bloat and the blur of. View 1 Replies View RelatedI rooted my Droid X yesterday, used Titanium Backup to backup all apps + system data, reset to factory defaults (still rooted it seems), then tried to restore the bloatware apps. Now the bloatware wont reinstall from Titanium, but regular apps do. Am I missing something or will this take a bit of work to get these bloatware apps back on so I can get to 2.2? Can it be done with Astro FIle Manager? I don't see how to set permissions.

what is the Easiest way for me to root my X? so i have to install a recovery first? How do i remove the bloatware after i root?
where is is there a list of Great working ROMS for my rooted X? is there a Stock Rom on here somewhere ot DL also? so i can have a clean slate. i read that my X bootloader is locked. what does that prevent me from doing?
I have asked this on the bloatware thread, and I've only seen one person mention that they have seen an improvement (BringTheRain403). I know a lot of you have removed most of the bloatware by now.
Do you see a noticeable increase in performance or battery life after removing the bloatware? By removing, I mean freezing the apk's in Titanium Backup. I don't really have a problem with this stuff being on the phone, but if it will noticeably help to remove it, then I definitely will.
I rooted my Captivate tonight and I know how the superuser icon with android skull and crossbones. However neither Super Manager or ASTRO will allow me to uninstall the crap ware on my phone. Is there something I'm missing? I followed all the steps at XDA. So far I've tried to remove YPMobile, ATT Navigator, and ATT Maps. Any suggestions? I tried searching this on google and this forum but didn't come up with anything.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded LauncherPro and Widget Locker. So, everytime I hit home, I get a choice of those two. I don't know why I got Widget Locker, I can't even figure out what it does.
How do I stop it from showing up as an option? I don't want to uninstall it, since I paid for it, and someday I may decide I want it.
I read sometimes in comments of applications that people can't uninstall the app. Has anyone come across this issue before? I have yet to have this problem but should I steer clear of people complaining about apps not uninstalling?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI downloaded CPU Tuner yesterday for my EVO, anytime I overclocked it, my phone would keep rebooting to the point I had to do a battery pull and restore another ROM image! So I decided to uninstall it. Went to applications <manage applications<cpu tuner<uninstall. Said it was uninstalled successfully, rebooted my phone and it was still there! Now when I go to manage my applications to uninstall, it's no longer on the list! How do I get it off my phone?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI missed this on Home++, and I just noticed it an update ago but you can drag an icon to the trash bin, hold it there for 3 seconds and it gives you the option to uninstall.
I don't recall it being mentioned in other ADW threads.
VERY stable with Froyo - not one single FC
I have version 0.35.3989 installed for Swype. Every time I try to uninstall it says "Uninstall not successful"
I am using Astro to uninstall this version of Swype.
I can install the beta one that they just released, but it then tells me a version of Swype is already installed.
Any idea how to uninstall this app?
Ok so I've got smoked glass 6.0.1 running great on my phone but I'm one of the many that are having problem with google maps. I opted to uninstall after installing the rom but I don't know how to do it. I've searched everywhere and they all say just go to manage apps and uninstall from there. I don't have the option to do it from there!...I then saw that you can try filtering and choosing one of the com.google......things that are listed but I don't have the one for maps. Lastly, I saw somewhere using adb shell does the job but I have NO IDEA how to do that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIm new to rooting and I really have no clue what im doing for the most part but I rooted using easy root the other day mainly because I wanted the wifi tethering...
Well after rooting with easy root I noticed it gives you some apps to check out now that your rooted...busy box being one of them...so I did it not knowing what it was.
Now I've realized I have no need for it but I know it installed itself into my bin and some other places I think...just wanting to know what is the proper way to get rid of all things busy box after running install?
I am unable to uninstall mototorch via the uninstaller app or through android's application manager.
