I love Handcent and I know it's super-easy to send message to a group of contacts but I have two questions that I have not been able to figure out: 1) is there a way to create a group and name it instead of having it appear as just a list of people? 2) whenever I send a message to a group it shows each individual message getting sent...is there a way to 'consolidate' this so when I send a message to the group I only see the message I sent once instead of once for each contact it is being sent to?
I have a friend who is added to my Desire's contact list.
1. He is on my Facebook contact. (His facebook pic appears in my Desire contact list) 2. He is my Gmail contact as well. 3. He is added as a 'Phone Contact' as well.
I sent him a text few days ago but don't remember if it was using facebook or my phone (network provider sms) but now when I go in to 'Messages' and send him a message, I just can't figure out if I am sending him a message via Facebook or to his mobile number.
I'm using Handcent, but I get the same thing if I use the inbuilt messages app. Basically I select a group to send an SMS to and when I send the message it comes back that the multiple messages haven't been sent, but they actually have. First time it happened I kept trying to re-send, got the delivery error every time, despite all 5 lots of messages being sent - I spammed a load of friends! Oddly sometimes it works fine and Handcent does the correct sending of each msg one after another.
When I send text messages to individual it sends them as plain SMS, this works with my free allocation of texts. When I send text messages to a group (a list of 7 individuals) it sends them as 7 "Picture Messages" - this costs me money!. The message has no pictures and is short? How can I force the phone to not send picture messages?
Can anyone tell me how to set up a Group Address List. I run a syndicate and need to frequently send the same message to 20+ friends and I do not want to have to keep creating the address list each time. I also need to copy previous texts and modify and again send to the same people.
So after i updated to 2.1 ota from 1.5 sending & receiving text messages are awfully slow, and when i try to send like 2 messages quickly it just leggy, for like 15seconds.. will i have to do a factory reset or something to fix this? Do you guys have any input on this?
When I try to do this to a group with more than 6 people, it converts the message to a mms and wants to use there email and wont add any more than 10 contacts. This way is messed up, I have made several groups of 7 different sets of contacts, They all change to MMS Message when selecting any of those groups.I can send a group message by doing the below actions without any problem for some reason though, Which TBH is just more hasse.
Alright so I REALLY need to create a group contact folder. You see I have to manage about 10 guys and its convenient that they all have cellphones whats NOT convenient is I can't find a way to put them into a group and text them with one group message! I need to make sure these guys show up to where they are needed and texting all 10 of them separately is a pain in the rear end. So far the other threads don't seam of any use.
I have come across a compelling problem with my Orange bill since getting my Desire. I set up a group in contacts and a number of times have attempted to send a group text. There are about 8 people in that group but when I pressed send I would get message pending.
Some members of the group would not receive anything whilst others would get a text hours later.
I tried a couple of more times last month then gave up.
This week my bill came with a 10 charge for photo messages, as if I would use this crap way of sending pics when I have access to email. All the group messages were charged at 25p per person.
To give Orange their due, they will reimburse me the money on goodwill but I certainly won't be trying the group thing again.
I am new to the captivate. I have all my contacts in my phone now, about 300. Is there a way to either group or create groups of them and then set one of those groups up as the contact default? I know some phonebook apps probably do this but are limited in their information. I am looking for the full contact info (with phone numbers) and then isolate those I use frequently into such a group.
i am a youth sports coach and i need to be able to setup a direct message shortcut to my contact group. Has anyone been able to do this? i can setup indivdual short cuts but not a shortcut for a contact group. Am i doing something wrong? Also, is there a way to change the label on the direct message shortcut?
Yes, unfortunately I have friends with iPhones. With iOS4, they can basically do a group text chat that has all the users receiving the messages from everyone in one location and all messages are saved. This is basically like a chat group using text messages. My question is whether android has any apps that can allow us to "join" these chats. I asked my friend to add me as a user to the chat but all that accomplishes is letting me get individual messages from each member of the chat. If I wanted to reply to the group, I would have to reply to each one individually.
I want to write an app in eclipse on sending my location via message to a number on my phone. I have followed tutorial for sending message and for getting gps location separately. I do not know a way to combine both of them though.
When I first set up my phone, I synced my Google contacts (from 2 accounts). I have since cleaned up my contacts, no longer syncing the Google contacts ... I only have my phone contacts. After cleaning things up, I still have 2 empty "Google" contact groups. My question: Is it possible to remove a contact group? I haven't found a way to do it and I have had no luck searching here or on the rest of the internet. I just want to clear up the clutter. I think it's silly to have 2 empty contact groups.
Does anyone know of a specific problem with blackberry's receiving picture messages? When I send them my friend gets an error message and can't download the pic. I have tried sending different sized pics, even pics he sent to me and still the same problem.
My Hero is frequently haven't problems with failed SMS messages. It's increased since I upgraded the handset to Three's official 2.1 upgrade, although it had a habit of failing messages when it was running 1.5, too.
Three have swapped my handset because of previous issues with it, so it would appear to be a network/ Android issue.
Today at work I went into my people application and sent a contact card too a friend. When I done this it went to send it through messages rather than through handcent for whatever reason. Either way the friend didn't get the contact card. After this I went into handcent to send a contact and nothing would send. So I tried sending a normal text message and nothing. After half an hour I rebooted phone but still nothing do. I decided to turn phone off and take battery and SIM card out and then turn back on. This still didn't fix it so I went into manage applications and cleared all cache and data from HTC messages application.
Again this didn't work but I am worried what data I may have deleted now? 3 hours later and everything was working ok or seeming too however every now and then I got the message sending failed. I've had full signal throughout this. Also when I now receive a message I am getting 2 messages notifications come up one from handcent the other from HTC messages application? On another note what cache can I clear? I've got astro which allows me too clear thumbnail and internal cache which I do weekly but how can I clear all my application cache at once? and should I clear caches?
It comes up when sending text messages. Not in the messaging widget, but when you actually go into your text messages, and I think its some, not all. After the message is sent, on the right side of the screen/message, there is this red exclamation point.
I have a group on gmail called coworkers. I added many of the employees in my company as contacts. I am now running Launcher Pro as well for what that is worth. I found the option to check coworkers as a group, but I can't figure out how to associate or move the employee contacts under that group. What am I missing? Or am I going about this the wrong way entirely?
Is there a way to sync only one specific Google contact group rather than getting everyone that happens to have a phone number from the generic "All Contacts" section? If I go into the standalone Contacts app the only contacts I see on the "Contacts: Google" list are the ones I want but when I go into the contacts in the phone app everyone and their grandparents are listed.
Is anyone else noticing that the three "built-in" groups in Google Voice: Friends, Family and Coworkers are NOT synced? These are my three biggest groups. I'm sure I could create duplicate groups, but that seems silly. Can anyone confirm the same behavior and/or suggest something to get these groups syncing properly?
I have several contact groups setup in google Voice/Gmail. I cannot seem to access/send to these groups via my Droid Gmail/Voice application. Handcent is the only application I have that seems to be able to send a single message to one of my google groups. Anyone have an idea on how I can send an email to a group via google?
I am new to the forum so not sure where this post should go but I am having trouble with finding a way to send a group email from my contacts list. Also would like to know how to forward to a group. Dont want to use my gmail account either, want to use my regular Yahoo mail account. Is there an app that will do this for me? I have searched the forum & cant find an answer.
I have a small but very annoying issue sending texts sometimes...Basically my office has an intermittent signal so occasionally my connectivity drops. If this happens while I'm trying to send a text the message just sits there with the 'processing' animation (the spinning circle thingy) going constantly - it rarely times out and outright fails, usually just continually tries even when I'm back into a good signal area (I've even left it in a good signal area and checked hours later to find it still trying!). I've tried going in and out of airplane mode or even turning the phone off and on to try to get it to just fail so I can send again but nothing makes it give up or succeeed. When it gets into this state the only way out seems to be to delete the message and enter it again. (for info I'm using Handcent, but checking in native message service shows similar effect so don't think thats related)
I need some help. i have a htc wildfire and ive tried sending a text message a few times but it keeps failing and then keeps trying to resend i think the reason is because its an extremely large text message.
i was just wondering if anyone knows how to stop this message from sending so it doesn't keep going off telling me that its failed again?
Is there a way for sending a single message to multiple recipients for the message to be placed inside the conversation for each individual instead of creating a new thread for that one message?
I downloaded the Handcent App and even it does the same thing as the stock app. It appears there's an option to split the message up as described when sent to a group. But it still creates the new thread whenever sending to individual names.
