Motorola Droid X :: Files - Folders Missing In Explorer
Nov 10, 2010
I have a Droid-X and am having a peculiar problem. When I connect the phone to my PC with the USB, I try to browse the files on the "DROIDXRemovable Storage" directory, but only some of the files and folders are showing up. If I download and save a file on the device, it doesn't show up at all in explorer. I've even tried copying a file to the device from windows, and as soon as I disconnect and reconnect, the file is gone in Explorer even though it shows up fine on the device's file manager. Does anybody know why these files and folders are missing when I browse in Windows Explorer?
I can't seem to be able to re-name files in my /system folder. I am tring to do this in Root Manager and it is telling me that the permissions are set to read only... however if I try to set the permissions in Root Manager it tells me I can't do that...
My issue revolves around trying to use apps like the default files app preinstalled on the Droid X, Astro File Manger, or Estrong File Explorer. For some reason when I move files from folder to folder or copy and paste files into different folders the actual files appear to be there but when I go into the actual applications where the files should be they aren't there.
Example: I had put a few self made ringtones and notifications onto my SD Card via the USB cable that came with the droid from my computer to my Droid X. I made a seperate Media folder on the Card and put sub folders in that like I was supposed to. All the correct files appeared where they should once I disconnected and looked on my phone. New ringtones were in the ringtone directory through accessing them through settings, notifications where there, etc. Now when I try moving one of my ringtones into my notifications folder via, Astro file manager or Estrong File Explorer or the files app that came with the Droid X is moves the files into the folder and you can see it moved by actually viewing it in the folder you just moved it to. But when I go into my settings, notifications tones and look for the file I just moved there...it's not there for me to select, but it is when I look at my file manager. I've tried this in the music folder, ringtone folder and notifications folder and they don't appear in the actual applications where I moved them to, but they appear in the file manager as being there. Am I doing something wrong. I don't understand why this is happening.
I downloaded a picture from the web onto my X. I used dropbox. The problem I'm having is I can see the picture when I go to phone files. I copy and paste from dropbox to my picture folder. The picture doesn't show up in the gallery. So just to be sure I copied the picture to a folder called background, its still not there in the gallery. Weird thing is when I go back to the phone files, and look for it. Its there in the gallery folder AND the background folder, but STILL not in the gallery! not sure whats going on there? I just want to make a picture a background thats all. It would be nice to just go into the phone files LONG press a picture and have the "Set As" option. This option only seems to be available in the gallery.
I'm not trying to remove programs necessarily, but more trying to clean up my SD card. I don't know if this makes a difference, but I am rooted. I have a bunch of folders on my SD card that I'm not sure where they came from or what they are for. If anyone can tell me what I can delete, I'd seriously appreciate it. Here's my list:
.tmp (directory) albumthumbs (directory) amazonmp3 (directory - I've never used amazon mp3) Android (directory) Clockworkmod (Directory) Cracked Apps (I made this, I use this one) (Directory) data (directory) DCIM (directory) DiskCacheIndex14748 DiskCacheIndex16288 DiskCacheIndex21523 DiskCacheIndex35119 DiskCacheIndex37034 DiskCacheIndex68357 (not sure what type of file, but the icon is a blank sheet of paper)
I have already remove some Sprint applications using Fresh Kitchen. However in my settings/applications/manage applications page, I still see a few apps that I cannot remove like SprintTV Widget and Flickr.I also loaded Root Explorer and wanted to try and remove some app/files that are cluttering my Hero. Any suggestions what I can remove, some stuff in the manage application page?also looking for the folder that has the stock Sprint ringtones, I don't use them and want to remove also.
I have tried a lot of custom Roms. I'm on Neat ROM Lite now. Not sure which ROM changed my file access permission settings to cause this problem but I'm not able to delete any files from my external memory card. I was able to delete when I was on stock rom. The other problem is for a few apps I get an error message which says can't install on usb/sd card. I have posted this in another thread some time back but got no response.
This is what my file permission looks like.
I am able to delete when my fone is connected to PC via USB. So I don't think it has anything to do with a faulty sd card.
Step 1) download busybox binary to your adb tools directory Step 2) cd to your adb tools directory Step 3) adb push busybox /data/local/busybox Step 4) adb shell Step 5) cd /data/local Step 6) chmod 755 busybox Step 7) ./busybox
Now to have this run so droid explorer and detect your phone and so you can use busybox (ie so its in your PATH) run this. Step 8) mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system Step 9) /data/local/busybox cp /data/local/busybox /system/bin Step 10) mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system Step 11) sync Step 12) reboot
Download Links: Droid Explorer: Droid Explorer busybox: Download busybox.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way Disclaimer- I put this together really quick so please only try if you know what you are doing so I can save my butt from any problems that may come of my or your own error.
I've been messing around with my Droid and I stumbled upon the Files app which lets you add a server. Is this for FTP servers or like a local computer connected to Wi-Fi? I have an FTP server I'd like to connect but it says it cannot be reached, even though I'm 100% sure the details are correct.
And another thing: what is the best File Manager/Explorer app? I found like a dozen of them and honestly, I don't feel like installing them all to find out which one is the best.
I usually view email with attachments from my pc because I usually lack the time to download the attachment. Today, I had some spare time so I tried to download an attachment. It downloaded fine but when I went to view it, I received a pop-up box to save it to the sd card. After pressing ok, I was told the save was successful but now I can't find it. Aside from pics and videos, how do I access other folders with saved data?
I am new and this may be a stupid question. I cannot find files and folders on my Incredible. If I download an attachment I have no idea where it goes. I can't "see" the Droid on my computer when synced so do not know how to find the pictures to transfer to computer.
Is there a difference between using a terminal emu and a file explorerer opposed to using the root explorer file manager. I don't have a pc and can't use my card on the market for paid apps at the moment because I'm BROKE!
I'm trying to use root explorer to move my SU to the xbin so I can get around losing my root with 2.2. When I move it and go to paste in the xbin it says thats a read only area. If its read only then why are numerous sites say that how to move it? Am I doing something wrong?
Specifically, when I go to /mnt/sdcard/download all the files are ---rwxr-x. When I long-click a file I can access a Permissions dialog, but any changes I make there are not actually reflected on the file system. Anyone know what might be going on?
I recently bought the Samsung Vibrant phone. I am a little intimidated by it but trying to learn things, but have two questions I need to find answers for quickly - for business reasons.
I found out how to put a file on my computer, but not how to name it...i.e. clients...that type of thing....
AND the guy that talked me into this said that I would be able to access my home computer with this phone so if I needed to send a file while away from the house, I could do that. BUT I cant seem to find that.
AND LASTLY...there seem to be a lot of aps on the phone already that I done want or wont use, but the TMobile guy (who uses a blackberry) could not seem to figure out how to get rid of them.
ALSO...for anyone looking for some cool covers for the phone...decalgirl.com has some great skins for the phone AND the Realook screne protector is wonderful...changes nothing and cant tell it is there, but do follow the directions as to the water to take all dust out of the air.
I purchased an unlocked and unbranded Samsung Galaxy S i9000 from Amazon.
After playing around with it for some time, installing all sorts and getting to know how to use it I decided I would perform a factory reset to "clean" it before continuing to use it "properly".
Before performing the factory reset I navigated to "My Files", selected delete, then selected every single folder and file and deleted them. I then performed the factory reset.
Now I am missing 4 images which were available as wallpaper in "gallery" and probably several other files/folders.
I thought the factory reset would return the phone to its original state and reproduce any folders/files I may have deleted in the process. I thought they might be stored in a hidden "partition" or similar which I had no access to.
Anyway my questions are how can I restore my phone to its original state and which other files/folders would have been present initially but have now been deleted by me?
Just wondered, it seems that sometimes when you download an app to try and then you remove it, does this completely remove all the files from the internal memory?, im sure i have done this before and it seems i loose a small piece of memory after uninstalling Just wondered if there was a certain uninstaller that completley removes all files & folders?
I'd like to start getting my music and pictures etc., on my Wildfire. I've got an 8gb micro-SD card. Question is how does the phone read the card? Do I have to set up folders on the card such as Music, Photos, Videos etc., or do I just pile all my files on the card and the phone then sorts out what's what?
My 16GB micro SD now almost full. There's only 500GB free space. I have lot of files and folders in my SD. But I don't have clear idea what're the large files and folders. So are there any app that can sort folders according to the total size?
