Motorola Droid :: Voice Dial Really Doesn't Seem To Work
Nov 9, 2009
I look forward to my Droid from Verizon.. unfortunately the Voice Dial appears disfunctional. If i go "Call Joe Blow".I get "Calll Joe Blow at home' Call Joe Blow on mobile choices on the screen. ok I could live with that as my Razr sometimes had difficulty, but I MUST PHYSICALLY SELECT THE CORRECT CHOICE.. so much for hands free.what is even worse is that if I say Dial 800-555-1212 it also prompts me for phsyical confirmation. For a phone in a hands free state this is worthless. Is this something that software will correct in the future??? I am trying to decide whether to send this sucker back in my 3 day window
When I try to use voice dial on my X10 it does not work. Not even close, never. I either get a list of phone numbers I don't recognize (998-xxx-xxx, etc) or after clearly saying "call voice mail" it comes up with "open calendar". Do I need to train it to my voice, or does it just not work? Is there another ap out there that works? Before got this I had heard rave revews about android voice dialing, now I am very disappointed.
I've tried the voice feature and it seems to be crap.I've tried it with, and without a bluetooth headset, and it doesn't recognize any name I say.For example, if I want to dial my wife, I say "call martha".it dials the toyota dealer. makes no sense at all.is there something i'm missing? some "set up" i need to go through so i can identify my voice? I'm asking it to dial names in my address book, actually just after she called, i tried it to call her back, no joy.
I am running the latest simply stunning and it does not have bluetooth voice dial. I know a rom i ran before this did have it (it was a 2.2 rom) but I have run so many I don't remember which one it was. So does anyone know what roms support this feature?
Does anyone else find the Voice Dialing feature completely useless and frustrating? For myself: In a car with hundreds of contacts to sort through, it's a must have. This thing isn't even close. It just sprays random contacts out. Another "wait for Froyo 2.2" coming soon feature? Is there an alternative app I can download?
Since I don't have google contacts I can't get voice dialing to work.. Does anyone know if Voice Dialing works with Froyo? I think its kind of crazy that my Motorola Razor had voice dialing stock and this does not.
I barely ever get it to work accurately. It's easier just to jump to the contact list. I would like to use it in the car, and this is through the handset not bluetooth. Otherwise it's AWESOME. I am humbled so far, especially at the app selection.
I use to be able to hold down the magnifying glass on the Droid and say "Call John Doe mobile" to call someone. Now for some reason when I do it it only gives me a google search option although I can still say "Navigate to 123 Whatever RD" and it will open up the navigator but why is my voice dial not working anymore.
How can I voice dial from my bluetooth when the screen's timed out? Phone's in holster, screen's timed out, press & hold bluetooth headset, get double tone indicating screen timed out. Must remove phone from holster, unlock, then manually press Voice Command shortcut to activate. A real PITA, especially when driving. Have car doc, Voice Command works from bluetooth, but need to activate when phone is in holster. Motorolla Droid X on VZW Android version 2.2
I already downloaded the latest voice search app on my nexus one. I can perform some of the voice actions like calling, navigating, maps and internet search, but I can't seem to add alarm, send text message/email, note to self, call businesses or even set alarm. Instead the results give me either google search or voice dialing. Are some of the functions blocked here? Also I noticed in the official guide video the help screen had more options than mine. Is my voice search a more toned down version because I'm in a different region?
I assume that this has been asked and answered many times before, but the market keeps changing and new tools come and go. To put it plainly, the existing voice dialer in the ERIS stinks, and there doesn't seem to be any change with 2.1 over 1.5. Are there good dialers that can be purchased or freebees? I know about Vlink or something like that but the Beta is closed and the real version hasn't been released yet. What is everyone using?
This is strange. The GPS on my Droid will only work in the afternoons. Whenever I try to use Maps or GPS Status in the morning, no signal is obtained. But use it in the afternoon...anywhere from 7 to 9 satellites are found. After the time stamp issue with the camera, I'm wondering if there's a similar issue with the GPS.
Tasker does not seem to function unless I use the motorola control panel and turn on bluetooth, wifi, and gps. If I shut these off via the control panel then tasker does not turn them on at the appointed times and events.Which begs the question, is tasker REALLY turning them off? or are the icons just going away in the notification bar (because they still show as on in the control panel widget)Has anyone else noticed this issue?
Have many of you had the issue that only the earpiece speaker or earphones work, and the handsfree loudspeaker doesn't kick in, unless you're making a call and choose handsfree? This is particularly annoying when listening to music and you want it through the louder speaker, or if you set an alarm, or receiving calls...... Anyhow here is an article: Motorola DROID Experiencing Main Speaker Issues | PhoneNews.com. Surprised I haven't seen more about this on the forum.
Has anyone else noticed the Amazon MP3 App (the one that comes preinstalled with the phone) doesn't work if Wifi is turned on? I've tried it on two wifi networks (home and work) and I can't purchase or download if it's on.
I don't know if it matters, but both networks use WPA2. One is PSK and the other uses RADIUS authentication.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so does anyone know a fix?
I have suspected this on every ROM I have run (stock 2.1, all tranquility roms, and now rubix 0.3 (which I love except the single unexpected shutdown of the phone once).
My screen just doesn't turn off no matter what the settings/display/screen timeout is set to (30 sec, 1 min...)
I test it by turning on the phone, sliding to unlock and then staring at my homescreen with a stopwatch. It can be 5-10 minutes before it turns off.
I have interrogated with spareparts and the phone does have a high percentage of "running" from bluetooth and wifi, but isn't the screen supposed to shut off even with those background processes running??
I don't have anything special installed for power management, just stock stuff.
I went to the market and found some power managers but I don't have any confidence a third party app will solve this problem.
Just wondering if anyone else runs into this problem.... Every so often, I go to type in a message, either on the pop up from handcent, or in the actual program, and no matter what I hit, the keyboard doesn't type anything. I can switch inputs from Swype to Android keyboard and usually it doesnt do anything (though sometimes it starts working again). Sometimes it fixes itself if I leave it alone for a few minutes, but other times it needs a battery pull to fix. It's not a huge deal as it doesn't happen every time i use the phone, but definitely something I wish didn't happen
When I call out using Google Voice to someone and I have their contact info linked to their facebook it doesn't show their profile picture. Yet if I call them with my actual phone's number it shows the profile picture. Ditto when they call in. Anyone have a fix for this or is this Motorola's problem?
I'm trying to determine whether or not my phone is defective, or if this is a current problem with the Cliq.
Of the apps I've downloaded, only a few of them have worked. Of those few that work, some don't work right. Has anyone had problems with these apps crashing on them, or just not working correctly?
- Nice Battery (see description at bottom of: My Ultimate CLIQ settings (so far)) - WeatherBug (kept showing the wrong location, crashed when trying to change location) - Snake - doesn't work just says its "paused" - RingDroid - crashes when I select the "Facebook Pop" button - Layar - screen is rotated 90 degrees at all times
There have been others, but usually I just uninstall them right after discovering it doesn't work right.
I have a MotoDroid that has Froyo 2.2... I rooted it and am running a new rom. I was trying to boot into recovery using rom manager and it doesnt work. I also tried holding the x and power button down to reboot and it wont work either. It just shows the "M" for a long time then flashes "M" comes up again and in load like normal or it sometimes freezes and I have to take the battery out. just also tried to back up current rom and that doesnt work either.
I've been using the stock calendar widget for my exchange calendar and noticed that the date on the top of the widget doesn't update each day to the current date. I have to delete the widget and set it up again for it to show the current date.
Cannot get wireless tether to work anymore. It gets superuser permissions, My laptop detects the network, it connects to it, but I cannot load any pages and nothing is being sent up and down except for 3-4 kb.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, resets, etc. My root seems to be fine.
