Motorola Droid :: Screen Orientation - Movie Playback
Mar 9, 2010
It seems like my droid will only go to horizontal orientation if I turn it counter-clockwise. When I turn it clockwise, the video plays in landscape by upside down. I'd like to play it landscape turned clockwise and be able to access the charging port while watching television. has anyone found a video player that is capable of this?
it took all day but i finally took 1080p avatar and converted it to mp4 to play on my dx. i transferred the mp4 to my sdcard and started to play. plays better than perfect until i started skipping around the movie and noticed when it gets past a certain time (1:40:50) i think it is it stops playing and cant go past. i try the file thats on my laptop and theres no problem with that. i tried downloading other movie players but they cant even play the file at all.
my gS4. The only thing is movie playback volume is low and I'm hoping there's something I can do to improve this. I've tried several things: ensuring the volume is max'd in settings, adapt sound, different movie players (MX Player) etc. Music sounds great! No issues there and plenty of volume/sound. I've downloaded movies from Playstore and also copied movies (all to SD card), again the volume is low while at max... same result w/ Netflix.
Been struggling with this since receiving my X. Seems like no matter what player I use the playback is jerky. It's very subtle, almost as if the video is dropping a frame or so every second. I've tried the stock player, Astro, Rockplayer, mPlayer, Zimly, Act, and the list goes on and the problem still persists.
I've encoded (using handbrake) with all of the settings suggested on the boards and have tweaked things on my own trying to find the proper setting, but still no luck. The strange and frustrating thing is that the exact same files play just fine on my 1st gen iPod touch (clearly an inferior piece of hardware) and on my wife's incredible. These encodes are of standard def DVDs at average settings (a full movie is about 1.3gb, all h.264 mp4 files.
I was able to improve playback by rebooting the X and then playing the video, but this doesn't seem like an acceptable solution every time I want to watch something. I tend to encode and watch a lot of stuff on my commute to/from work, and I'd really like to replace my touch with the X, but the media capabilities are falling way short. Considering switching to the Inc as I know it's able to play my media properly, but I'd prefer to keep the X for the larger screen size (though the Inc does seem to feel better when using one-handed). I'm on the fence right now, but if the X can't function as expected then it might be going back. Unfortunately I only have until the 1st to return it so I don't think I can hold out and see if 2.2 fixes this issue.
I am not sure which is the culprit, but while playing back video or even at random times, the screen shifts lighter or darker seemingly at random, and one time during a video playback on the TV.com app, it went black altogether. I am not sure whether it is the timer or the ambient light sensor, but I am tempted to turn the sensor off and push the timer back a lot.
Is there a way to make the home screen change orientation with the accelerometer? On my phone, it will only change when I pull out the physical keyboard, which is not really what I'm looking to do most of the time.It changes just fine in all other applications, but the home screen doesn't. Is this a flaw with my phone or a design decision?
I am workin on a video player app in which I want only the landscape orientation active coz right now when the user tilts the phone during video runtime, it restarts playback in that orientation.
How can I easily avoid this?

is it possible to manually rotate the screen or fix the current screen orientation (with a key/button)? because it really annoys me having taken portrait pictures that cannot be viewed (with the media gallery application) in a portrait fashion on the milestone. this is because it always rotates the portrait picture back to landscape when rotating the milestone from landscape to portrait. right now there is no way of properly viewing portrait pictures on the milestone other than tilting your head (holding the milestone landscape and tilting your head along).this cannot be the way it was intended to be, right? or do I have to get a different viewing software which allows you to choose screen orientation? is there such an app?
Installed flash 10.1 today and since then...won't boot up at times, screen orientation won't switch, lock-ups, pages hang, multiple reboots etc. How do I uninstall this? I've looked on the phone and tried to research online without any luck so I have turned to to the real experts. Help! Thanks in advance.
I took some movies with my Droid this weekend and when I attempted to view them on my PC, I was denied. Is there a program that one can download on my PC that is capable of translating the Droid movie format (whatever that may be) ...
I'm on 2.2 bugless beast .4 right now. Tonight I was transfering a movie to my phone via usb. Long story short, I needed to cancel the transfer in the middle and remove my phone. Now my phone is freezing like mad, and I absolutely can't connect to my computer (not to mention that freezes it completely.) Removing the SD card seems to help, but not much. Anyone have any ideas on how to remedy this?
I know how to prevent screen timeout normally, but is there a way to only prevent it during Music Playback? I'd like to place it on the treadmill and not have to continue to tap the end button to get the screen to light back up and show the song/album art.
In a nut shell, when the app is loaded, it will play a short movie (maybe a few seconds at most @ 12-24fps). I will then have 2 buttons displayed on the screen, and depending on what button is pressed, it I will play another short movie (5-10 seconds). While waiting for the user to make a decision, the movie will be looping. The movie source is stop-motion photography so it's already chopped up into frames. My question here is if I should use a Frame Animation technique, or if I should use a Movie player for this. All in all perhaps there's less than 100 still frames that make up the stop-motion. I was going to go the Frame Animation route, but I wasn't sure if having so many individual frames would kill the app so I thought I'd post here to see if anyone had any insight.
What movie files are supported on the droid? I have tried to grab my digital copies of movies from itunes and add them to my droid but they will not play. I read some stuff about the crackberry site with movies, but they seemed to have low res, id like to get some higher res movies that look super sharp on the droid. how to get max res movies made for droids resolution.
Coming from a BB curve, I am very excited to watch high quality movies on my subway commute everyday. I would like to start converting movies to MP4 tonight to have everything ready to go on Friday, but I need your help. I know there are many posts on this subject, but none specific to the DROID. What is the best free movie converter and at what resolution to do you recommend converting to? While we are on the subject, what is the best video player for the DROID?
So I used the DVD Catalyst software to make a movie file the DX will play, Works great but do I need to worry about these files being so big? I know there are file compressors out there but I don't know if it affects the movie play or not.
Is it normal to be very unresponsive to changing between landscape and portrait? Or do I have a defective phone? Also, what type of USB plug is that? I thought I read that it was a mini-b, but I ordered some from monoprice and they do not work.
I am working on a boot animation for the Droid X that features a clip from the 1986 animated movie of Optimus Prime blasting some Decepticons before his battle with Megatron. Just have to fix a few things before I release it for download. I am trying to add audio but am having a problem. I load the audio file into the /data/local/ folder (as an mp3 file) but it doesn't seem to play. Here is a video of the boot animation: YouTube - Droid X Transformers Boot Animation (Optimus Prime)
Question about video playback. Do you have to convert everything to .3GP ? I drop some movies onto the SD card and play them just fine. Then went back to play them it was REALLY choppy. Not exactly sure what is causing this. I would rather not covert everything to a different codec.
This is one thing that annoys me about mp3 playback on the Droid, the lack of an equalizer. Does anyone know if they are planning on adding one in a future firmware update or if there's a good 3rd party app that has one?
For the documentation of a project I would like to record the screen of my Nexus One as a movie or at least in form of a lot of images, which I can convert into a movie. Is that possible? Is there an app for it? For the moment I only know about this screen capture functions in the SDK's tool directory.
I took a few videos over the weekend and when I played them back on my phone, there was a bit of jerkiness, in each video. When played back multiple times, it jerked in the same spot each time. I don't remember if I was running Stagefright or not when I took them, maybe that is a variable.
The Droid can only play MPEG-4s right? If not what's the best format to rip movies to? I tried MPEG4 720X480 and the phone never even saw it on the SD card. Unless I'm doing it wrong (like music, I just created a folder called videos) A certain Tarantino film just leaked and I really wanna watch it during my commute.
Is horrible audio playback just part of the 2.2 leak or is it just me? Kangerade, BB, and the stock 2.2 all have very tinny sounding audio quality regardless of the player used. Anyone else noticed this? Better yet, anyone have a fix?
