Motorola Droid :: Move Back And Forward Within Text On Soft Keyboard?

Nov 18, 2009

Sorry for the newb question. Of course you can tap in the right spot, but that is not very accurate. The d-pad on the hard keyboard works of course, but what about on the soft keyboard?

Motorola Droid :: Software Keyboard - Move Cursor Around Text

Nov 12, 2010

I use the hardware keyboard exclusively, but am wanting to use the software keyboard more, figuring that my next phone may only have that. My real problem is figuring out how to move the cursor around in the text. If I want to go back and edit using the hardware keyboard, I just use the d-pad to move back to the spot I need. How do I do that with the software keyboard? Am I forced to tap the screen (which never chooses where I want it, and I have to key pecking at it to get it in the right place)?

Android :: Move Layouts Up When Soft Keyboard Shown?

Dec 27, 2009

I have a few elements in a RelativeView with the align bottom attribute set, when the soft keyboard comes up the elements are hidden by the soft keyboard. I would like them to move up so that if there is enough screen space they are shown above the keyboard, or to make the section above the keyboard scrollable so the user can still see the elements.

Android :: Back Button - Soft Keyboard Related

Nov 4, 2010

My app contains a page with a form, a long list of EditTexts.

If you're entering text and click the back button, the soft keyboard is hidden. However different android versions behave in different ways. My 2.2 device hides the keyboard, and that's it. My 1.5 device hides the keyboard, and the 'back' onKeyDown/Up event is still activated.

This is very tricky... for the 1.5 device I need to know if the keyboard is being displayed when the back button is pressed, so that I can capture the back event and stop it continuing (all I want is for the keyboard to hide). But I've search all over this forum and there doesn't appear to be a sure way of doing this.

Android :: Intercept Back Button From Soft Keyboard

I have the activity with several input fields. When activity started soft keyboard is showed. When back button pressed soft keyboard closes and to close activity need to press back button one more time.

So the question: is it possible intercept back button to close soft keyboard and finish activity in one press of back button without creating custom InputMethodService?

I know how intercept back button in other cases - onKeyDown() or onBackPressed() but in this case it's not works: only second press of back button is intercepted.

Motorola Droid :: Interesting Discovery About Soft Keyboard

Nov 10, 2009

There has been a lot of discussion on Engadget about whether the soft keyboard has multi-touch. Engadget insists no, and Rob here insists yes.I think I discovered where the problem lies. Josh at Engadget was saying that you had to release one key before pressing another or they would not both register. Rob said in his review that you COULD press them at the same time and both would register. I think I found out that both are right.I did some experimenting and would love to see whether others come to the same conclusion. It seems that when the keys are far enough apart (more than a couple of keys away), then you can, indeed, press the second before the first is released and they both register.BUT, if the keys are close to each other, it will not do this. You have to release one key before pressing the other.I think this must be to avoid accidentally hitting two keys with one finger. So, whether you think this is a good feature or too much babysitting of our typing abilities, it does seem intentional.

Motorola Droid X :: Possible To Install A New Soft-keyboard Thats More Traditional?

Sep 24, 2010

Considering moving from the Droid 2 to the Droid X. I cant really make up my mind, but I dont really like the D2, but I cant really explain why. I think its the form factor itself. Portrait keyboarding isnt good with my big thumbs, the screen is narrowish.

Anyhow, played with one at the Verizon Store last night. Wish they had one without the damn teather cord on it LOL. I noted on the landscape-keyboard, the spacebar is all the way on the right. Is it possible to install a new soft-keyboard thats more traditional?

Still struggling,

I know I can hit the back button to dismiss the keyboard, but is anyone else having this problem, and is there a fix?

Motorola Droid :: Contacts Search Doesn't Open Soft Keyboard

Aug 23, 2010

However, when I press the button, it doesn't automatically open the soft keyboard and I have to first press in the input box. Is there any way to make it automatically open the soft keyboard? It's not a major issue, but it's a slight nuisance. I'm running a rooted Droid with Froyo (FRG01B, manually updated).

Android :: Configure An EditText's Soft Keyboard To Use Numbers Initially - But Still Allow Text

Jul 21, 2010

I want to let users input a postal code to my app. The common use case is the US zip code, which are composed solely of numbers, so I'd like to display the numeric keyboard initially in the soft input. However, not all postal codes are solely digits, so I still need users to be able to enter other characters.

I've been trying to do this with android:inputType, but by setting the "number" flag, it automatically blocks any input except for number-based stuff. Is there a way to just accept general text, but get the soft keyboard to initially display a more number-based keyboard?

General :: MK802 Mini PC - Disable Soft Keyboard Hiding With USB Keyboard Available?

Jun 22, 2012

I'm using an MK802 mini PC. I don't have a USB keyboard yet.

When I plug in a wired USB mouse, I can use that to click on the on screen soft keyboard.

But when I plug in the wireless dongle for a USB mouse, the Android soft keyboard doesn't show anymore (I guess this is because the wireless dongle supports both keyboard and mouse, and tells Android a hardware keyboard is available, so Android doesn't show the soft keyboard).

Any way to ignore this and always show the soft keyboard? Or another keyboard I can download which will always show?

Android :: How To Develop A Soft Keyboard - HTTP Connections To Synchronize Keyboard Data With A Cloud DB And Other Phones

Is there any general information about soft keyboard development for Android out there?

Any best practices or guidelines?

Can I do with my keyboard application pretty much anything I could do with a normal Android application?
Can I do HTTP connections to synchronize keyboard data with a cloud DB and other phones I have?
Can I open other windows/screens from a key press, e.g. to display a custom input interface different to a normal QWERTY one. If that doesn't work, can I use a pop-up dialog instead?

Motorola Droid :: Text Keeps Reverting Back An Old Number / Fix It

For most contacts I have *82 in front of the number which will unblock my number because I have my caller ID blocked by default through Verizon. Because text messages will not work with *82 in front of the number I store the same contact without it and use that for texting.

My Droid when texting will sometimes replace the current number I am using with the *82 version even if I have deleted the *82 number for that contact. The only way I know this has happened is when the person I am texting says they did not received it or if I am texting someone who is also on Verizon network and the text delivery status will stay at pending.
