Motorola Droid :: How To Replace Shortcuts On Bottom Row?

Jul 4, 2010

I tried to place my shortcuts on 2.2 but I was having a major problem placing them on the bottom row. Without the thing turning into a trash can, almost every time I tried to place one there, it would vanish. I literally had to have it 2 pixels under the above row or it wouldn't take. Does anyone else have this problem with 2.2 roms?

HTC EVO 4G :: Changing UI - Placing Shortcuts At Bottom Of Screen

Sep 13, 2010

I know hardly anything about Android but here goes. I just upgraded from my Hero to an Evo and got my g/f a Samsung Epic. I played with both phone all evening and really like certain feature on each. I like her overall user interface more than mine. She has the four "shortcuts" at the bottom of the screen which I think is pretty cool but I have all the slick HTC widgets.. Is there a way to make my UI have the "shortcuts" at the bottom like her phone without loosing my widgets? I figure I could search around and load her interface on my phone but then I figure I will loose the HTC factory stuff.

Samsung Moment :: Previews / Shortcuts At Bottom Of My Home Screen

May 3, 2010

I updated to 2.1 recently, and I am using Helix launcher with 5 screens. I let a friend use my phone the other night and when she gave it back, it was messed up. I mean, it seems to work the same, but there are 5 small screens at the bottom of my home screen that look as if they are previews/shortcuts to the other screens. I cannot seem to figure out how she got that on there, or how to get rid of it! It's really annoying. Anyone have a clue??

General :: How To Change Bottom Shortcuts On Gingerbread Home Screen

Dec 2, 2011

I wish to change the 2 shortcuts at the bottom of Gingerbread default home screen (Phone, Browser) to something else (Messages, Gmail). But I couldn't find a way to change those icons either by press and hold on the shortcut, or by dragging icons from the Apps screen.

What's the best way to change them without using 3rd party launchers?

Motorola Droid :: Shortcuts Gone After Installing Rom?

Mar 18, 2010

I like to keep several direct dial and direct message shortcuts on my home screen, but after installing a new ROM (in this case BB 0.8), the shortcuts are gone. It's not the biggest deal, but if I could find a way to preserve them for easy restoration when I update, that'd be great.

Motorola Droid :: Single Key Shortcuts

Nov 21, 2009

I came from a BB and I had all the important shortcut keys memorized so that I could open them instantly. Is there a way to do this with the Droid? I don't like having to do two key combos or having to switch to the home screen and/or app screen. Plus, I don't like to have a lot of clutter on my home screen.Naturally, this would only work whilst using the physical keyboard but hen I'm browsing the web or talking on gtalk, I might think of something and want to quickly bring up a notepad app to write down some notes.I know that it's nit-picking, but I like to be quick and efficient with my phone. In all other respects/departments, this phone ROX!

Motorola Droid X :: Set Up Desktop Shortcuts To Account

Jul 19, 2010

Currently using Launcher Pro. I have two separate email accounts with my ISP, Bresnan. With all my previous android phones I've been able to set up desktop shortcuts to each account so they can be checked separately. With the X, I cannot seem to do this. The email shortcut does not allow me to specify an account, and just shows the default account. I'd really like to continue to use my old system of two account shortcuts.

Motorola Droid :: Helix Launcher2 Advanced Shortcuts

May 8, 2010

I apologize if this is posted somewhere else, I looked for a while and couldn't find anything related. I want to know how to use the advanced shortcut option in HelixLauncher2. Basically I would like to have the generic phone icon on my dock but instead of taking me to the Dialer I would like it to take me to my Call Log. I would also like to use the standard Contacts icon on my dock but would like it to always take me to my Favorites Contacts instead of All Contacts. Does anyone know how to set this up in the Advanced Shortcuts in HelixLauncher or know a different way to do it? Also if anyone knows if there is an easy way to use a different Icon for each of those?

Motorola Droid :: Replace Motorola Boot Logo With Your Own Image

Feb 23, 2010

This is to change the motorola logo that you see when you boot your phone to a custom image. This is separate from the boot animation seen afterwards.Tools/files you will need:
1) RSD Lite
2) droid sbf
3) SBFCodec
4) Photoshop (or paint, or whatever drawing program)
5) Hex editor (frhed is free and very easy to use)
NOTE: I do not use sbf-recall because it complains about needing version 1.3, so I use SBFCodec instead.Steps:
1) Run SBFCodec and open up the sbf file. This will extract all the smg files and header files.
2) Using photoshop, create an image that is 480 pixels wide and 182 pixels tall. Each color should be assigned 8 bits (1 byte), or in paint, just make a 24 bit bmp file. Mirror the image, making the left become the right, and the right becoming the left. Save as a bmp file (photoshop method).
3) Using a hex editor, open up your image and erase the first 54 bytes of data. (and possibly the last 2 bytes of data if you used photoshop. the number of bytes remaining should be exactly 262,080) With the remaining data, reverse the bytes. (using frhed, the option is in the edit menu->Reverse bytes)
4) Using a hex editor, open up the CG42.smg file created in step 1 and erase all data except the last 64 bytes of data (these 64 bytes of data should be FF's in the file). Then paste in the remaining data from step 3 to the beginning of the file and save. Your final file should be exactly 262,144 bytes large.
5) Go back to the SBFCodec window and save (this creates the sbf) the sbf file and name it whatever you want. i.e. boot.sbf
6) Using RSD Lite, flash this sbf to your phone. It may take 5-10 minutes for the flashing to complete. (after the 10 minutes, it might say "failed", just click on the show device button once that happens and you'll have succeeded)You now have a stock phone with a custom boot image. Go ahead and root your phone and stuff. Sorry for the difficult instructions, this was the only approach I could think of to edit the boot logo.

Motorola Droid :: Shortcuts Menus To Apps In Droid?

Nov 12, 2009

I have A LOT of apps on my Droid. Way too many, but that's a subject for another day. Getting to them on the default menu is impossible, its WAY to much scrolling. My home screen space is very limited - the left side is a full screen calendar, and the right side is a nearly full screen task list. The main home screen loses some space to a clock widget, so I end up with only a 4x3 space on my center screen to work with. Given all of the apps I have and all of the functions they do, this doesn't work. I need direct & instant access to at least a dozen things on the home screen, Plus much more a few clicks away. I have thus far found TWO decently sound organizational options for my Droid, but neither quite do it for me. Hopefully you guys know of another one that I have not yet found.Folders on the home screen. Put things in folders.Problems: Despite ability to name folders, Grey folders all look the same, making it harder to quickly grab the one you want when there is a screen full of them.impossible to nest folders (this feature alone would solve my problems)Folders don't auto close, pressing the home button takes you back to the home screen with the folder still open (yet one more button to hit to close it).Great app on the marketplace called "Apps Organizer"Pros:makes a list of all your apps, then lets you assign label(s) to them (like gmail). Then you can create shortcuts on your home screen to a specific label.Lets you select a unique Icon for each label.

Problems:When you click on the shortcut to open up that category, the tray of Icons is TINY. Significantly smaller than normal. This makes reading text labels of the apps "legible", but only with good eyesight. No nesting. No shortcuts to gmail labels, direct dial, direct messaging. So those groups of icons all have to go in the folders the plain grey indistinguishable folders.Temporary workaround:Create a folder for gmail labels, direct messaging and calling "folders" on the home screen.create 1 "reorganized" apps menu folder on the home screen that would link to ALL the apps, organized by labels into 6-8 categories. No more endless scrolling for the "occasional use" app.Create half a dozen labels for HIGH use applications and place those on the home screen for direct access to those categories.None of the options presented REALLY get the job done. grey indistinguishable folders remain, I still have to launch everything out of the TINY icons and text used by Apps Organizer, direct message, email, calling, labels still needs some work. Any suggestions? Am I missing any options in the above, or other ideas that would enhance this spit and duct tape organizational system?

Motorola Droid :: BEST Way To Replace Icons?

Jun 14, 2010

I've been doing a LOT of trying different ROMs and themes, and want to get in to a bit of designing myself. The actual icon designing I can do. What I need to know is the best way to implement it.I'm referring to the icons for specific apps (i.e. Market, Gmail, etc.). I was thinking I could open the .apk and replace the files that way, but that would mean an update for the app would un-do my work, right?I know there are apps out there that replace the launcher that allow you to change icons, but from what I remember, they are normally buggy. Has this changed? So, what is everyone's opinion on the BEST way to replace icons?

Motorola Droid 2 :: Contact Icon / Image Issue With Android Shortcuts

Sep 11, 2010

I just got my droid 2. All set up and rolling. However, I am adding shortcuts to my contacts on my desktop (ala the d1) by pressing and holding the screen, then Shortcuts > Contact. I scroll to the contact and select it. and it adds them to the home screen. Unfortunately, it adds them with the WRONG icon. It IS an existing icon for a user just not the user I am selecting. Also: It is only when I add it to the home screen as a shortcut when it gets jacked. Anyone else seeing this or have a solution? Also, I use google to sync all my contacts. I use Gmail to set the icons. There is only a certain size which can be used. but on the D2, the same contact icons/images seem to be blown out. Like I COULD use a bigger size image, bug I dont think that Google allows it? Anyone know what size contact image the 2 can handle and a way to use that image through Gmail? So far, moving from a D1 to a D2Im not completely impressed. but it is faster and works well. except for this issue. And the moto blur crap. Also to note... when using the (HORRIBLE) motorola contact widget the icon/image IS correct. but cmon, is this widget even useful? How many people have only one number? And I need a 4x4 widget for one contact... mobile, home, text, email, etc.. BS. Really the function on the D1 of adding a shortcut to a contact is much better. add em, click the icon, then it asks you what you want to do (text, call, email, talk, etc)... the D2 still does this but you have to go into Contacts and click on the person first before getting the options.

Motorola Droid 2 :: Way To Replace Voice Dialer With Something Better?

Aug 23, 2010

I have just gotten this phone and am very aggravated by the Voice Dialer. I use a blutooth headset, and use that because I work outside and my hands are usually sweaty or wet. The issue is that it's awful. It hardly ever hears me correctly, and without any warning it calls the wrong person! Very annoying at 7 in the morning, or 10 at night when you start dialing random people.I tried a different method, saying "open contacts" and it still dials random people. The Google Voice App understands me perfectly when I use it for texting or email. Why can't this Voice Dialer? Is there a way to replace the Voice Dialer with something better?Or is there a way to force it to confirm who I want to call?
