I've done a bit of searching but haven't really turned up much.
Basically I just want to know if there's any apps available that will allow me to watch video files on my Desire over my home WiFi network.

I'm new to the Android OS having been a Symbian (2nd phone is a Nokia N97) and Windows Mobile user previously. My question regards a copy of Family Guy (Something, Something, Something, Dark Side) which I purchased yesterday. The standard DVD also comes with a digital copy on the DVD which, when inserted into the drive brings up a choice of transferring the file to my computer to be copied over to my Desire as either a iTunes file or a Windows Media Video (WMV).Ideally I want to avoid the iTunes route as currently I have no use for that program on my system so I would like to be able to use the WMV version. When I copied the file to my Desire, it didn't play and the phone didn't seem to recognise it. Can anyone please give me advice on how to play a WMV on my Desire?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI love my aria, i got it 9/29/10, for free from best buy because my contract expired... but ive already used 20MB and i only bought a 200MB plan... i might go to 2 gigs, but for an alternate, since my billing cycle ends the 28th of every month... if i disable application syncing, and mobile network from the hold menu... can i connect to my home wifi network, and go on the internet from there without that using any of my data plan?

I've got about 4000 tracks on my pc and would like to stream them or browse and play them from my phone (not always convenient to play them from the PC).
I've got Estrongs file browser but can only play one track at a time.
I have the Samsung captivate and it usually has no problems connecting to WiFi networks but it can't connect to my home network. It recognizes the network but I can't use send/receive any data. My two laptops have no problem connecting to my network but I can't get my phone to. Additionally, my Wii has the same problem. It recognizes the network but can't do anything. Its probably a router problem but their support was useless, so I thought I would try here.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a stock inc and for some reason it won't connect to my home WiFi network. It will connect to other wifi networks. I turned off WEP just to take that variable out of it. No idea what the problem is. I have also hard reset it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an Eris with Android v. 2.1 and a Belkin 54g router. The phone lists my home network in its list of of wifi networks. When I press the entry, an info box says that signal strength is good and security is open. (for the purpose of trying to have my phone connect). When I press "connect," it says "Obtaining IP address." Then after a couple of minutes, it says "Unsuccessful."
My phone has connected to other WiFi networks with no problem; indeed, it has done so automatically, with no effort on my part. My router assigns IP addresses via DHCP. It also broadcasts its SSID, which the phone recognizes.
I am struggling to connect to my home wifi network. I very occasionally can connect but there seems to be no obvious method to the madness just some black magic. Basically it sees my network it has remembered the key, the key is correct, and it says disconnected. I press connect and nothing happens at all but sometimes it will say "connecting..." then it will immediately say disconnected. I have a belkin router and my network is secured using WPA/WPA2 TKIP/AES encryption. I have tried using APNDroid to turn off my mobile internet before using wifi and that sometimes works but that seems to be more black magic than a solution.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.
The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".
Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?

Trying to access shared folders on my home network (3 computers running XP) via the Media Share.
Set up the files for sharing on the computers.
On my Droid clicked on "Media Share" -> "Start" -> "Computer" -> "Copy" -> "Windows File Sharing" -> "Next" -> Shared 3 folders on my computer. -> "Next" -> Verified my home network was availabe, clicked "Next" -> clicked "Next" -> "Shared Folders" -> "Add Server" -> "Scan for Servers" ->
At this point it finds the IP address of the laptop Im working on. using DHCP. But when I click on it, it keeps asking for a user name and password. dont have one for XP and no password on the files.
The stock media player is good but not so good when your looking at videos late at night like porn =/ lmao
i need a new media player that supports many of the video files whats in mind?
I Have some long videos (2-5 minutes). I have tried sending them through email, and tried uploading them directly to facebook. When I try this it says the file size is too large. How can I get them to facebook?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my desire for around a month now & had no real problems with it, flashed it with a stock ROM initially & then rooted it a couple of days after the root was released. When I woke up this morning I was connected to my WiFi network but when I tried to load a webpage, nothing happens, it comes up with the stock 'Web page not available' page. I tried a couple of web pages but got the same response, I thought it might be my WiFi network but when I got to work, exactly the same thing happens. I can connect via GPRS when I disable the WiFi with no problem. I've been using Y5 Battery Saver for the past two weeks, not sure if that's relevant. Is this a standard error / known bug, how would I go about fixing this, not having WiFi is obviously a bit of pain!
OK, installed a Terminal emulator over 3G & ran a couple of commands, including dmesg. From the output of dmesg it looks like the WiFi connects but then something goes wrong, here's a brief transcript:

I've just installed 2.2 on my unlocked unbranded desire from CPW on Orange.All seems well except I can't connect to my wireless network any more. I've tried rebooting and tried setting up a new connection.I just keep getting "Obtain IP adress from" but it never connects.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've experienced quite a lot of problems with the WiFi after updating the Andriod. Everytime I try to connect to my home-network i get that it failed to connect.
The phone didn't have any problems with this before the update.
Anyone had the same kind of problem, or anyone that has a smart fix for it?
I'm still trying to get to grips with the folder/filing system of the Desire's SD card. I have yet to put any of my own MP3's onto the phone but have put on a few short audio clips which I created at work. These were on the phone mainly so I could transport them home but I also occasionally play them from the phone. However I don't want them cropping up amongst music in the music player app/widget, but it seems no matter where I put them on the SD card they appear. The only exception is if I put them in media => ringtones which isn't ideal. Are there any other places where i can put them where they won't be found by the media player?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI had been tearing my hair out because my new HTC Desire couldn't see my home WiFi and yet occasionally it would "see" a weak signal from a neighbor's house. My Access point was running WEP so I changed it to WPA-SPK - still no good. So I also set up a second standalone WAP running WEP. Still couldn't see either WAP.
Upgraded to latest ROM firmware. No difference. Long story short, it wasn't the type of security, it was because I was using Channel 13, It suddenly occurred to me that not all countries (I'm in Australia) have Channel 13 available so the phone might not have it either. Changed WAP from 13 to Channel 6 (although any other but 13 would no doubt work) and everything worked.
