LG Ally :: After Update Root Broken?
Nov 25, 2010
So the other day I noticed my phone said "an update is available" so I updated, while rooted. I noticed after the update that none of my rooted apps work anymore. I unrooted and re-rooted. Nothing. Help? I'm stuck with the superuser appand can't get rid of it. I tried a factory reset and it didn't work...

I have been told by one of my customers that my app (and some others) no longer works on his phone since he got an OTA for2.1-update. a bit of a Google about and it sounds like yes - my customer and my app are not alone. Has any-one else encountered this - is it Verizon's fault or has my app got some obscure bug? The icon has changed from the normal group text icon to a generic android icon, and instead of being called group text, the name that shows up in my app menu is "com.smallbould". When I click on the icon, every time I get an immediate message saying that Andriod Home has to be force closed. I never even make it to the group text main screen... nothing from group text loads, period. I can uninstall the app and then reinstall it from Android market and everything goes back to normal... the icon and the app name go back to normal and the app loads and works without a problem. But as soon as I power down the phone, the app reverts to the generic icon and becomes totally non functional again. For what its worth, Fandango and History Eraser also have this problem after 2.1-update1. All of these apps worked flawlessly before the update. My phone is an LG Ally from Verizon.

I rooted and tried 2 roms, then went back to my original setup I had on my own but with root and tether. Now the android market has stopped working. Any suggestions? Or a place to get a full backup that would put me back to 100% stock so I can bring the phone into a verizon store if I need.
I used clockworkmod for all roms and restores. I did the wipe data and cache etc before loading roms or restoring from nand.

I've tried the following using an emulator with the 2.0 and 1.6 target and still same results!
I'm currently trying to change the Telephony status via eclipse to test how my application behaves on bad network speeds and dropped connections. But after the last updates to the SDK, now this settings are not working! I set Data and or Voice to denied and my application is still downloading content... Why is this? I tried setting the connection to a lower connection type and my app is still downloading very fast no change!
I tried making a call to the emulator and that works...

I recently attempted to download an update to pandora on my motorola droid, and it completed download but gave a download unsuccessful error message, when tapping on it, it brought me into the market and told me the package was not signed correctly.
My question is, is it hitting everyone or is it just me? and if its just me, anyone know how to fix it?

Anyone having problems with the text application after the recent update? When opening a conversation, it initiates at the the top and I have to scroll down to see the latest text. This happens even though I scroll down, exits the conversations and re-enters. Quite annoying.
The name of the app has changed from Meddelelser (Messages) to SMS (Text). Just s bonus info.

Ever since the froyo update (installed fresh from the RUU file), there are random days where my alarm will not sound, both from the stock htc alarm app, and Alarm Klock. At first, I thought it may be gonig off, but I've been muting it in my sleep, but today my suspicions were confirmed when I was awake in time to see it attempt to go off, only for the alarm screen to come up with no sound, despite the alarm volume being cranked up to maximum.I'm honestly at my wit's end with this; I can't find anyone else with this problem, and I've had to buy a cheap clock from CVS to wake myself up in the morning.Has ANYONE else been having this problem? I've already been late to work twice because of it!

In the Android Market, I saw that users of my app had serious problems: http://www.cyrket.com/package/de.jars.android.quicksearch
After updating to a new version from the Market, the app became unusable. This line is causing the trouble:
code:..........
I do not see a reason for a FileNotFoundException here - is it a Android bug?
"/data/data" seems strange, too (should it not be just "/data"?).

After a few apps had updates come out that I didn't get notified about I began wondering what was wrong with my phone. After a few well placed friends pointed me to an official Google Market message board.
Market app 'my downloads' out of sync with installed apps preventing upgrade notification - Android Market Help
This thread has been growing fast, with reports coming in of more and more users with this issue.
It seems this problem is global, with users from France and the US reporting, possibly others.

I am an Admin from www.se-nse.net and would like to draw your attention to an article I have recently posted.
Whichever team of jokers that are responsible for the radio implementation on the X10 should lose their jobs. Firstly came the catastrophic battery drain and a ridiculous WiFi bug but thankfully both were fixed in the recent R2BA020 update. Having momentarily restored my faith along came R2BA026 bringing back the bug which makes my WiFi utterly useless!

I need someone with an unrooted LG Ally to test my 2 Click Root scripts. This is for Mac users only. Please Direct Message me or message me on twitter @northmendo if you are interested in testing. If all goes well I will release to the public asap. Also it helps if you already have adb configured but I can help with that if you don't.

This a thread for posting screenshots of how you've customized your phone. How to:
1. You must have root to take a screenshot.
2. Download a screenshot app, I chose screenshot in the market.
3. Upload your screenshot, I chose the imgur uploader from the market.
4. Post your screen with details about what you've done so people don't have to ask.
To upload an image to imgur you must view the screenshot in gallery then share to imgur. Then copy the url. Velocity 0.1.1 928droid theme LauncherPro BattStatt & Retro Clock widgets.

Decided to get brave and try the whole Root thing to get rid of some of the bloatware on my Ally. I used Universal Androot to root my phone, Titanium Backup with the Batch "Backup all user apps + System data", ROM Manager to back up the ROM, and Root Explorer to change permissions so I could delete the bloatware apps. (Well, the ones I could figure out - still have a shortcut for Corporate Calendarand Socialite.)
OK - fine so far. However, when I tried to restore, the apps I deleted are still gone. I tried using the Factory Reset option in Settings - nice and clean but the same apps are missing. By this time, I've figured out I misunderstood something somewhere. The question is - can it be fixed?

I need to download a root in order to Delete programs I don't use? (such as "City ID" and "Skype" and all the others on my Apps panel I don't use, ever.) Am I correct? Also read on the "Sticky" that task killers actually slow my phone down? I use advanced task killer free and it makes my battery life way longer and gives me the ability to kill stuff I ain't using.
I really like the phone a lot! I use the barcode scanner and the google goggles (which I think needs some more work IMO) and constantly google stupid stuff at work that me and the guys come up with. I really like the phone, but wouldn't mind getting rid of some useless programs I have. (Like on my home PC). Not to forget the Full version of Angry Birds. I'm addicted to that game! Its awesome! (reminds me of the game "Gorilla" that windows NT used to have).

So trying to use a Bluetooth headset or hands-free speaker doesn't work on the Ally with v2.1 and the update. Does rooting and installing another ROM fix this? Allegedly this is fixed in Froyo, but who knows when (if?) the Ally will get it.

I recently rooted my phone. That went fine, I got the fancy # prompt without too much trouble. So I installed ROM Manager and got the ClockworkMod Recovery img. When I hit reboot into recovery from ROM Manager it booted to the LG boot screen and wouldn't go anywhere past that. I freaked thinking I was bricked. I left my phone alone for like 4 or so hours and it was fine thankfully. So I pretty much stayed away from fancy stuff like that for the past week.
Then this new firmware update comes out.
My question is... If i install the new OTA update will I lose my root access? I've read about situations where people lose their root then gain it back, I'm just curious if this is the path I will have to follow.
I have a backup of my stock ROM with root access and I'm not running any custom ROMs.

My Ally updated Thursday with no issues. I have observed a noticeable increase in responsiveness. Noticeable! No app issues. I did uninstall some new apps it placed on my phone like Skype. Battery life seems to be as good or better than prior to the update. I'm a light user. A couple of calls per day, some internet (Dolphin HD) and some texting. I recharge it every other day when battery level gets down to about 30%. I use ADW.Launcher, Juice Defender, no app killer, a couple of low overhead widgets, Chomps SMS, Pandora, and not much else other than a few shortcuts. I do have a widget for airplane mode. I turn it on once a day then reboot and turn it back on.
