LG Ally :: How Long Does Your Ally Battery Last

Oct 26, 2010

I use my Ally mainly as phone/email device and do just about 10 mins of browsing web a day. Under this kind of usage, battery level goes to about 50% after 12hrs from unplugging the charger. With some more browsing, it can get down to 33% easily in 12 hours. I guess it will be dead by 18 hours this way. I wonder how you guys batteries are doing compared to mine. I wish it lasts a bit longer than this.

LG Ally :: Battery Life Is Terrible

Sep 21, 2010

1st time poster so sorry if this has been discussed.I just got my LG Ally and have never owned a cell phone with such terrible battery life!I am coming from a Blackberry which would last me all day and night.I am lucky if my Ally gets me to noon w/o the 10% warning coming on.I go to settings and check my battery usage and I really don't know what to make of it.Yesterday it showed 93% battery use was from the Android system.Today it shows 81% is the Whoopee Cushion (app).I did use the Whoopee Cuchion app for about 3 minutes earlier today so why is that taking up 81%?I guess what I'm asking is - there anything to conserve battery life?Do I need to turn something off?Change a setting?I did take the advice of a friend and installed Advanced Task Killer but I have noticed NO difference in battery life since then.Any help would be greatly appreciated. And please keep it simple.like you're explaining it to a 5 year old.

Motorola Droid :: GPS Apps And Battery Life

I'm going on a hike this weekend and thought it'd be a good time to test out either Google Tracks or CardioTrainer to see elevation gain, time, speed, etc. The hike should last about 4 hours. How will my battery hold up with the GPS on the whole time? Assuming these apps have the GPS constantly draining the battery, which I imagine they do.

Motorola Droid :: Apps To Estimate Battery Life

Apr 4, 2010

I have been playing around with two applications that have widgets to show estimated battery life left.At one point, they seemed to show times that were pretty close but after updating to 2.1 they were off a bit. I am guessing 2.1 might have changed (hopefully improved) battery life and that caused calibration issues.I am just looking for any feedback from the community about which of these two apps they prefer, or if there are others I should look into. Of course, two of my main concerns are

1) I don't want an app that drains the battery

2) accuracy is important.

HTC Incredible :: Maximizing Battery Life / Closing Apps

Sep 1, 2010

I've had my htc incredible for a few days and I absolutely love it. However, I am less than pleased with the battery life. I run a good amount of apps and widgets and am sure this is causing the life to drain. I downloaded ATK in order to close apps when not in use, but I've noticed a strange occurrence. It seems that w/i 10 minutes of closing unneeded apps a bunch of programs that I have not been using open up. Is there any explanation for this? Also, is there a way to immediately close an app when I'm done using it rather than having to find the ATK widget?

HTC Eris :: Froyo Pattern-unlock / Manage Apps Hang And Battery Life

Nov 15, 2010

I'm a very happy KaosFroyo 37 user, but I have some misc questions.(sorry, this item is a sort of double-post) Do any of these lockscreen widgets work with Froyo? When I was running Android 1.5 and 2.1, I would keep my screen pattern-locked most of the time, since it lives in my pants' pocket and I want to avoid it activating accidentally. Then when I get into the car and place my phone in a cup holder, I would unlock the phone once and click a widget which would leave it unlocked (for easy access to GPS, etc.) for the duration of my ride, when I would lock the phone again and put it back in my pocket. Now with Android 2.2 I can't do this with the lock pattern, because apparently the security mechanisms don't permit it; one must re-enter the lock pattern several times, which is very time-consuming. Is there another approach for 2.2 users? I don't need very strong security, just want to avoid accidental phone calls and other accidental activations.
While (Android's) Manage Applications worked for me initially, now it only works the first time after a reboot. I.e., I can run it once, but on any subsequent attempts it will hang while attempting to populate its app list. As workaround I purchased Quick App Clean Cache, which is nice in its own right, but it would still be nicer not to have this problem. Also I'm not 100% convinced that Quick App Clean Cache is always giving me the complete set of options for an app, e.g. to move it to an SD card. Have others encountered this problem? I could probably generate a logcat for debugging purposes.

Most apps will let you move them to the SD card in KaosFroyo 37, even though I haven't checked the CyanogenMod option to permit these.I guess that there are a few more apps which might copy more completely to the SD card if I used this option. Can anyone shed any light on this option and whether it's saves any memory, and whether it induces any instability?I'm always careful not to copy widgets to the SD card.Battery life is a continued mystery; clearly much worse than before I rooted. Apparently the CPU tweaker isn't recommended (I guess it uses too much battery life trying to figure out whether it needs to adjust the CPU speed), and the battery life tweaker on the XDA forum described doesn't provide a very clear strategy. What do folks recommend? [ Correction: I had read a pretty incoherent writeup somewhere on XDA, but now see Collin_ph Battery Tweak RC1 for Cyanogen / Darch Froyo roms (possibly others) - xda-developers which is well-written. I will try this approach, but welcome your experiences.

Motorola Droid 2 :: Phone Randomly Open Apps In Background At All Times / This Will Affect Battery Life?

Nov 11, 2010

Just got my D2 yesterday after spending way too long with the Eris... so far I'm loving it, but I have one question: do everyone's phones seem to randomly open 10-20 apps in background at all times? These aren't even apps I use, like a Sudoku game I haven't tried once yet. I'm not too worried about it, since performance seems to be fine, but I'm wondering if this will affect battery life.

Android :: Activity Life Cycle - Serialization Taking Too Long

Jul 27, 2009

Finally after many days of getting StackOverflowError, I've tracked down the issue and fixed it, only to find that my game's serialization takes about 5 -10 seconds on the emulator and most likely around that in the target. So far my the lifecycle of my game is as follows

onCreate - check if serialization file exists, if it does, de- serializes it. (~ 5-10 seconds) onPause - if the game is not complete, then serialize it (~ 5-10 seconds) I remember reading somewhere that another activity's onResume will NOT get called UNTIL the previous activity's onPause has ended. So I am worried that my game is delaying another activity that wants to start from doing so i.e like a phone call etc. I think speeding up the serialization is not going to be feasible, so any ideas on what I can do? Can I serialize in the onDestroy instead of the onPause? I read that the onPause is the only safest place to store the state.

Motorola Droid :: Battery Life - Or Battery Widget

Mar 16, 2010

Background info:

- I'm running the "Battery Left" widget and I have it displaying "estimated percentage left", "system percentage", and "estimated time left until dead".

- I listen to A LOT of Slacker Radio.

My issues:

- I was previously getting about 19+ hours out of a fully charged battery. 2-3 days ago I started having issues with the widget (I think it may have started when I installed an update to the widget) so I recalibrated it to no avail. Then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Within a few hours it claimed that it was getting accurate readings (when I first installed the widget weeks ago, it took days to get accurate) and now says that I should be getting 9 hours out of a fully charged battery. I know that can't be right so I'll see how the widget adjusts itself over the next few days, but, any thoughts? (I know a lot of you guys use the same widget and know how it works...)

- Also, In the first two hours of my phone being unplugged this morning, it went from 100% to 70%. I did run Slacker for about an hour and a half of that time, but could it really drain the battery that much that quickly? And I noticed that when I close Slacker, if I go into phone settings, applications, running services - there's still a Slacker update thing running in there. Could that be draining the battery too, even if it's only checking for updates?

- I really don't run a lot of stuff on this phone. I keep wifi and gps turned off. I use bluetooth only a few hours each night. Minimal web browsing. Although, my POP email gets checked every 5 mins (but I just changed it to every 10) and I do use gchat and text a decent amount, but I'd say overall, it's "light" use (except for Slacker which could be a huge drain, right?)

HTC Incredible :: Bad Battery Or Poor Battery Life

Jun 23, 2010

My battery life was bad, but it was OK, but in the past few days my battery life is 10% per 30minutes(Just over 5 hours on a charge).I used to get 8-10 hours on a charge.I noticed last week that while it was charging the status of the battery was "Overheat".I think I somehow cooked the battery?I use TaskKiller and kill 95% of apps automatically, I have bluetooth, wireless,GPS disabled and the screen dimmed.I have not changed or installed any new apps.I have not changed the way I use the phone at all.My battery was dead, 0%, and it charged to 95% in about 45 minutes. Is this even possible? In fact in the past two days I have not gotten the charge above 95% at all.
