HTC Magic :: New User / Log Lists And Controlling Data Usage

Jan 9, 2010

I used to use Nokia phone but just changed to HTC Magic.

1) I can't seem to find any settings that allow me to check talk time, number of SMS sent, amount of data used, etc.? I need to keep track as my plan is not unlimited.

2) Is there any way I can stop the phone from accessing GPRS/HSPA from my provider? Once again, it is cos of my very limited data plan (only 20mb per month), so I would want to control the usage. I notice that when the phone is not on WiFi it will automatically connects to GPRS/HSPA and there is still data transfer even when the phone is on standby mode!

HTC Magic :: Can I Totally Block Off Data Usage Through Just Phone Itself

Nov 14, 2009

I have one question thats really been bugging me because I can't seem to find it any where over the internet. My question is, Can i totally block off Data Usage through just the phone itself? Is there any possible solutions? I want this phone, but just to have the wifi capability, I do not want any expensive data charges. If this phone is not possible to do so, I know some are, but I do not know which. How about the Htc Touch Diamond? Or any other phones you guys possibly know of that can disable the data function.

Android :: Dynamic Lists Of Data In A Layout?

Nov 17, 2010

I want to display contact information in a custom layout. My app lets the user select a contact, then I retrieve key pieces of info on that contact (phone #'s, email addy's, etc). I want to display them to the user so they look grouped logically. Sort of like a series of tables, so phone numbers, then email addys, then organization, etc.

I have a table format that I've been using in a different part of the app where I know the exact number of rows I'm adding and I have defined styles for the rows already. I want to reuse those styles for this data, but android sdk won't allow for you to set the style attribute programmatically.

I could create the tables in code and set all the attributes the same as in my defined styles, but it seems like a lot of extra coding.

Android :: Todo Lists / Task Lists / Evaluations And Reviews

Nov 8, 2009

I'd like to dedicate this thread specifically to the evaluations and feedback for various Todo's, Todo Lists, Tasks, Task Lists, Lists, etc.I'd like to keep this separate from Notepads as I've dedicated that to another thread ( Notepads and Notepad's that sync - Evaluations and Reviews ).Doing a search for Todo's and Tasks on the Android Market comes up with so many results. Rather than downloading and trying out so many, I'd like to know which ToDo's and Task Lists, etc. are recommended.I've been searching for ToDo lists and Astrid is frequently mentioned. Other sync or link to Google Tasks or sync with Google as well.Other ToDo / Task Lists? What are some ToDo / Task you've downloaded and/or experimented with? Please comment on other such productivity Apps. Please indicate if they
1) Offer Multiple Lists
2) Folders
3) Sync
4) Email
5) Offer other unique features

HTC Magic :: SD Card - CPU Usage And Battery Life

Dec 14, 2009

When my SD card is mounted in my Magic, the CPU usage is very high (90%+), the battery is very warm (34 degrees +) and it drains the battery very quickly (dead in 10 hrs with very min use).

When the SD card is unmounted or removed, the CPU usage drops to 10% or below, the phone is cool and the battery lasts very long.

Does anyone know the reason behind this and how it can be resolved?

I've reformatted the SD card and removed some of the media files not supported by my Magic but still have this issue.

HTC Desire :: Track / Stop Data Usage - Ways To Conserve Data?

Aug 23, 2010

I just signed up for these forums because soon I will be an HTC Desire owner in Canada. Having never owned a smartphone before I do have a few questions. The plan I intend on signing up for is the Telus Student 40 and that will come with only 100mb of data. Now I don't see myself being too data using heavy so I feel like I will be able to live with it. However I do have some questions regarding my data consumption.

1. Is it possible to completely stop all data usage by somehow disabling the data connection if I find myself reaching my limit?
2. What are ways to track my data usage to make sure I don't use too much data?
3. What are good ways to conserve data usage? I'm getting the feeling that there are some applications that will constantly be sending data back and forth updating themselves, is it possible to have these applications but stop them from constantly updating and only have them update when I want to access the application?.........

General :: Data Usage - Mobile Data - On / Off -> Difference

Jan 2, 2013

In android 4.0 and above there is the option in the data usage settings, to turn mobile data on and off. What difference does it exactly make? As fas as I tested, I still can take a look at my mobile data usage, even though it is tuned off in the data usage settings.

According to this source of Google

[URL]

turning it off means:

Quote:

If it's off, you won't be able to use mobile data at all and many features of your phone and apps won't work correctly.

what they mean by "...use mobile data at all..." (since I still have 3G) and what features there could be?

Android :: Scrolling Large Lists Of Cursor-based Adapters Is Faster Than Much Smaller Lists Of In-memory Adapters

Nov 3, 2010

I have an Android app that has both CursorAdapter based ListViews (backed by sqlite) as well as custom BaseAdapter based ListViews which are built on the fly from JSON pulled down from a server.

The data displayed in both is identical - an image and a couple of TextViews. My Cursor-based ListView has 3000 rows, the JSON-based ListView has about 30. However, scrolling down the list is significantly faster for the Cursor-based adapter. For the JSON-based lists, the data is all fetched before the rows are made visible. Images for both types of lists are downloaded on-demand.

I have both ListViews configured identically - both with fastScrollEnabled, scrollingCache and smoothScrollbar set to true.

I'm looking for leads on how to go about trying to figure out what's going on here and to potentially fix it so that the JSON-based ListViews as as fast as the Cursor-based ones.

Android :: Why Magic 1.6 User Cannot Find Application On Market?

Oct 20, 2010

I've published an app today mainly for my forum users to use, just a very simple app that displays wallpapers derived from the forum. Problem I'm having is one guy says it doesn't appear in the market and I've even sent him the APK to install manually but it fails. My minimum SDK version is 4, I created it with the 1.6 SDK specified so not sure why he can't see it or install it. He has a 1.6 Magic handset. So just wondering if anyone has any ideas, the app is called bocn wallpaper, it uses internet and set-wallpaper permissions but I wouldn't have thought the permissions were the problem.

My manifest is as follows:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:versionCode="1" android:versionName="1.0" package="net.dbws.bocnwallpaper">
<application android:icon="@drawable/launcher_icon" android:label="@string/app_name">
<activity android:name=".Main" android:label="@string/app_name">
<intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
</intent-filter> </activity>
<meta-data android:value="xxxxx" android:name="ADMOB_PUBLISHER_ID" />
</application>
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="4" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"></uses-permission>
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SET_WALLPAPER" />
</manifest>

HTC EVO 4G :: What Is Your Data Usage?

Jul 5, 2010

I love Sprint's true unlimited data.Switched from Att and the iphone after they changed the data plans. I was leaning towards the EVO anyway, but the new data plan was the nail in the coffin.I work night shift half the time and abuse tethering on my laptop while working nights.I pay for the hotspot app (i know i could root and do it for free but don't mind the fee considering how much i use).My first month (4 days left in the billing cycle) 21 gigs and change. And to just think, my city is getting 4G later this year and it will only be faster.

Android :: High Data Usage?

Sep 26, 2010

So we have 2 Incredibles on a family plan and with this chatter of eventual data caps, I just was curious and took a look at our recent data usage on myverizon to see where we stand.I average about 5gb a month while my significant other is around 20gb! I am a moderately heavy web user (although I don't really have anyone to compare to, but I check the internet a lot during the day out of sheer boredom at work) and he by all means is not.Can somebody explain what exactly eats data and how it works? We are mostly just curious and are guessing it's an app. But *what* is doing it? Like does it draw data from the internet or something? Is that app updating or refreshing? The only thing I know about data is like if you refresh a page on the internet, then data is used. I refreshed a website twice and my usage according to 3d watchdog jumped about 1mb. Is that normal? Is it also normal for there to be data usage while your phone is asleep?

Has anyone yet found a solution to determining data usage on a per-app basis that works with the Captivate? The only two market apps I've found, TrafficInfo and TrafficStats, both require Android 2.2 which of course isn't an option for us (yet).I had been fine but recently have seen my data usage skyrocket from 500-600MB per month to 200-300MB per DAY and yesterday over 500MB. At this rate I am going to blow through my 2GB only 11 days into my monthly billing cycle.

Android : How Can I Minimise Data Usage?

Jun 24, 2010

My HTC Desire should be arriving today and I'm really excited. I'm with 3 and their 'unlimited' internet policy is 500Mb per month. I don't get a great signal at work as I'm out in the sticks and when at home I'm connected to wi-fi so there's no big issue there. I'd be surprised if I went over the allowance to be honest. There will be times, however, where I'm away from wi-fi for a while and I'll be using the 3G connection more than usual. In this case are there any ways/apps that can help monitor usage and minimise it? I heard one of the browsers has the ability to compress images on websites but wanted to find out if anyone has anything they do to get the most out of their data allowance.
