HTC Incredible :: Downloading / Installing Software With Froyo
Oct 22, 2010
I turned on my phone this morning and it said 5 updates were available, where 1 had to be installed manually. So I select to update the other 4 apps... one of the apps downloaded ok, two are reporting that the download was unsuccessful, and the 4th one (Fruit Ninja) hung on 'Installing...'. So I put the phone down, picked it up an hour later, and it still says 'Installing...'. Thing is, this is not the first time this has happened, as I routinely have apps hang while updating, either while downloading or installing since upgrading to Froyo. Anyone else have this issue? I am running a custom ROM (Virtuous), but dunno if that has anything to do with it or not.

not sure if this is the right forum for this but i just switched from droid incredible to droid x. it is rooted running 2.2. i downloaded some apps from the market no problem, but now whenever i try it downloads to 100% and then that's it, it doesn't bother trying to install. installing an application through astro works though. i ahve no clue what's going on, rebooted a couple times already.

I have a rooted Droid X on 2.1
After hearing about the crap Motorola pulled with the bootloader, I decided to wait on the ota update to Froyo until someone either figures a workaround, or they don't...to which I will update via the latest leak.
PROBLEM: After twice saying NOT to download this ota, I look down at my status bar and it shows something downloading at 10%...It's the syatem update!!!! I immediately pulled the battery, only to have the download continue upon restarting the phone. I am currently in Airplane mode waiting to hear if there is a way to KILL, CANCEL or STOP this download from installing!

This link gave me some instructions about doing this without having to root my phone.
How to Install/Upgrade Android 2.2 Froyo on HTC Desire | Pathik Shah
Specifically:
How to Install Android 2.2 Froyo on HTC Desire
How to Upgrade HTC Desire to Android 2.2 Froyo
To install Android 2.2 Froyo on your HTC Desire, you can either use the official OTA update or a custom Froyo ROM.
Official Android 2.2 Froyo ROM Install (Recommended)
Download the official Android 2.2 Froyo HTC Desire ROM from HTC
Rename it to update.zip and copy it to your SD card via USB.
Switch off your phone and while holding the Volume Down button, power it back on.
Enter the recovery mode and press the Power button and the Volume Up button.
Select Apply sdcard:update.zip
Your Android 2.2 install should soon be complete and you can reboot your HTC Desire.
My question is...has anyone tried this? If so, has it worked? Do the gurus think this can work? PLEASE let me know...as I'd like to upgrade my phone using this if its safe!

Ok this is very simple folks. I took a trip to the root forum for some info for us common folk.
This is a LEAKED release, therefore motorola has not officially pushed it to our devices yet.
To install is easy
First download the file update.zip
update.zip
Now
1: Move update.zip to your SD card, do not put it in any folders, leave it on the root of the SD card. Do not unzip it.
2:Turn off your phone
3:Boot your phone into recovery mode. Do this by holding the home button and power button at the same time, until the motorola logo appears.
4:Use camera zoom keys to scroll down to "Apply update.zip"
5:Reboot phone
If you wish to revert back to 2.1, follow this link

Just plucked up the courage to root my Desire. And now want to have a go at installing Froyo and looking for the easiest way. I've looked at ROM Manager and was wondering if its worth getting the paid version as it says you can get all the popular ROMs downloaded to your phone. Was wondering how good this app is and if anyone has had problems with getting the ROMs.

I just installed Froyo in Kies. Everything went smoothly and the phone seems to work like a charm after installation. The only thing weird but not bad was that all the applications were in different order. BUT the first bad thing I noticed was that the Android Market application was gone! Is this normal? Can I get it back somehow?

This is a minor rant, and I'm not attempting to pick on any one individual. I'm just going crazy reading a new thread every 5 minutes of someone discovering a new issue with their X after installing a leaked and of course UNOFFICIAL build of Froyo. I mean you've already been warned of the potential problems and risks you might face with installing the leaked build; so why take the chance of potentially bricking your phone? Either way, maybe the mods can create a separate Froyo sub-forum for the time being, until we finally see an official release.

I have a motorola droid milestone and it is my first smartphone. I followed a guide to install Froyo there. The other day and update to android started installing (supposedly from verizon) on system updates. For the last few days it has been downloading, finished downloading and then telling me the system is updated (no reboot nor anything) and then it will start to download again. I have no clue why that may be.
Build number is voles-userdebug 2.2 FRFxx 49593 test-keys
Only thing I did with a terminal emulator was remove a couple of applications
(visual voice mail and google search, google voice search and google earth to install them from the market as I was unable to update them).

Anyone ever had this happen? Downloaded an update after the 2.1 upgrade and I sync'd my contacts with FB. It then deleted all of my contacts. So I deleted Facebook, re-stored all my contacts and reloaded Facebook. However, now it gets as far as installing and it never stops. It just stays on Installing. However, the FB app works fine on the phone itself. Is this a Market glitch? Is there anyway I can purge it from out of my downloads section?

When I get a picture message and get notified I have to go in and download it? I believe on my Eris it just sent the picture to me without me having to hit a download button. Not a huge deal but is everyone experiencing this. It isn't random it happens from ATT customers as well as VZW customers.

Just found this out recently, don't know if it's already been posted...This is a fix for downloads that are stalled at "starting download" It's actually pretty simple, just sign in to google talk and it should work right away, at least for me it did.

I've got some photos stuck in an MMS that I tried to download before I realised that I didnt have the correct MMS APN settings in (due to swapping to the Modaco ROM). The correct settings are now in but the MMS is stuck at "downloading" status. Is there any way I can rescue it, there is no forward option and I've successfully sent and recieved MMS since.

During past few day ran three speed tests (speedtest.net) using home WIFI connection. Couldn't believe the download speeds:
(1) 9,885 kbps
(2) 12,181 kbps
(3) 13,372 kbps
My Eris was maybe a tenth of this. Definitely worth the switch. Wonder how it compares to the competition?

Just rooted my DInc, trying to install ROMs using ROM Manager v2.5.0.3 but every time I select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" I get an error message stating: "Error while downloading from server. Please make sure that you have a stable internet connection, and that your SD card is inserted and has free space!" I have about 25gb left on the SD card which is most definitely inserted. Plus I have full 3g and have no problem downloading and installing ROM Manager as I reinstalled several times. Any way to fix this or do i have to install ROMs manually?

I can't seem to make Amazon MP3 download to the SD card.As I understand MP3 downloads should go to the SD Card by default. On my phone (non-rooted) it keeps on creating "amazonmp3s" folder on the phone internal memory storage to save downloaded files. Amazon MP3 app doesn't have a setting to save to the SD. How can I fix this? Am I missing something?

Is there any reason that download speeds over my Wifi are soooo slow? I'm downloading a 150MB file from usenet and it's going to take about 20 minutes. Same file from this pc over the same Wifi takes under 2 minutes. I'm not looking for the exact same speed (though it would be awesome) but something more reasonable would be nice. Could it be the SD card is too slow in write performance? Just wondering if this is an issue with the phone, or a simple SD card upgrade.

save pictures in my text messages? I would like to NOT use any app such as "Save MMS" because I'm sure there's a way to do this with the phone as-is. Also, when I get a picture message, it doesn't automatically download the picture. It notifies me, and then I have to manually click "download"
