HTC Incredible :: Way To Set A Custom Ringtone For Text Messages?
May 5, 2010
Is there a way to set a custom ringtone for text messages? I see in the music app to set a song as a ringtone but it doesn't let me set it as a text tone. I also made a song a ringtone but it was not available to the text app. Someone mentioned Handscent but I was hoping to use the stock app. The Droids stock app apparently does allow music for ringtones as I just confirmed from my brother in law.
I have noticed after 2.2 update that with the stock alarm you can't use custom ringtones, just the stock sense ones. Anybody else figure out how to fix this without using an alarm from the market? And if not, what alarm from the market are people using that is reliable and uses any of your custom ringtones?
I am not sure how this is happening, however, my customer ringtone frequently changes to some other short stock ringtone. I discovered that if I shut the Inc off and turn it back on, my custom ringtone returns.
Anybody know what is causing this and how it can be stopped?
Hey all, so I just got a Samsung Galaxy finally in the mail. It took long enough to figure out how to put music on it, then use my music for ringtones. But when I am in Settings for Notification Ringtones, I do not see the mp3 I added but only in Calling Ringtones. Why is this? I want to use the same ringtone for notifications too!.
Has anyone found a good ringtone for text messages? It seems like the ringtone and text tones have to be the same volume, and unless I want to crank up the volume on my phone (which makes the ringtone way too loud) I can't hear when I get a text message. I've tried a number of different tones (default phone options and some I've found on Zedge) but none really work for me. I love the one I had on my old LG phone, but can't find anything like it.
So I received a text message from someone not in my contact list. The sms came from someone that said ##########@vtext.com.I didn't know who it was and responded who are you. Now I realized who it is before they responded back and want to text that number again but have no idea how to find that text.Anyone have any idea how to view texts that are not attached to a contact or even review all texts for that matter?
I just got my Droid Incredible and I was wondering how you know that a text you sent was delivered. On my old phone there was a check mark next to the message if it was delivered to a Verizon customer. This was nice because then I would know if that person had their phone on.Is there anything like this on this phone?
Can someone please tell me how to set my text messages so they all are in the same format?? I have handscent and then whatever the phone has. Some people's message appear in one format and some the other .Also--what is deal with Chomp vs. handscent vs. whatever else?? Too many choices coming from a non-android phone!
I seem to in almost all instances not be receiving text messages. This is definitely hit or miss. I've determined it's not service related as it's only happening to me, and it's not location related. It's not related to the services of the people texting me. It's definitely not every single time, but it's a lot. My messages seem to be going out without a problem. After extensive testing I seem to have narrowed down this problem somewhat. There seems to be a problem with the messaging app on my phone. I determined this by downloading Handcent SMS. The moment I did this, I started receiving text messages again consistently and without problem. Uninstalling the program put me int he same place I was before. Can anyone determine what the problem may be with this additional information. Perhaps I have done something ill-advised to my phone so here is as much information about it that I can think of:
Firmware Version - 2.1update1 Baseband Version - 1.00.03.04.06 Kernel Version - 2.6.29-cc1c2268 htc-kernel@and18-2#1 Build number - 1.22.605.0 CL161493 release eyes Software number - 1.22.605.0 Browser Version - WebKit 3.1 PRI Version 1.28_002 PRL Version 51920 ERI Version 5
I am running a 2.1 rooted phone with (as far as I know) the stock ROM that came with the Incredible (prior to 2.2). I purchased the phone with 2.1 and it did an OTA update to 2.2. However there were so many problems with the update that I decided to go back to 2.1. I did this and rooted which seems to prevent the OTA update even though I don't have a custom ROM. In addition to Rooting, I disabled (using the method of moving the files to a disabled folder) CityID Footprints FriendStream Peep Teeter
Aside from this and installing some apps, I haven't done anything that I can think of to the phone that may have caused this problem. There are only a few apps that I've installed that I didn't have before downgrading and rooting my phone. Wireless Tether VLC Stream & Convert Startup Auditor (Messages has NOT been disabled) IncrediLight
I do occasionally receive a text message but it seems more "miss" than hit. As far as I know, I was not having this problem before I went to 2.2 (and then downgraded back to 2.1). Since I'm back at 2.1, I don't see how it should be any different from before unless I did something. Seeing as how it doesn't look like anyone else has had this problem after rooting (as far as I've been able to see in the forum). I'm hoping I've missed something. I've tried *228 option 2 (and option 1). Nothing else seems affected, not call quality or email or any data services that I can tell. I'm of course perfectly willing to completely reset my phone but only want to do that if it will actually do some good.
I woke up this morning with my phone saying i have 2 texts. i then open up my messages and ALL of my messages are gone. my inbox is completely empty anyone have this issue before? anyway to get them back? ive already rebooted my phone
I want to know if anyone is experiencing the same issue and if they have any fixes. I lost all of my text messages three times since getting the phone last Wednesday. The first time, someone was trying to send me an MMS. It didn't go through, and caused a Force Close (for which you have no choice but to select OK). After the error, all my previous text messages were gone. I immediately installed SMS Backup and SMS Backup and Restore. I like that SMS Backup is almost instantaneous back-up (to your Google account), but you cannot restore the messages to the phone. SMS Backup and Restore will back up your messages to your SDcard and restore, but it only runs at a pre-selected time (unless you manually sync before the selected time). Twice after the first error, I've been in the middle of texting and received the Force Close due to "Message Download Failure"; and after both times I lost all messages again. I was able to restore the older messages, but not the ones sent and received after the backup schedule. The only thing I've done is used SWYPE instead of the stock keyboard. But this seems like a network error.
Was wondering if there was a way to prevent text messages from certain people from populating the default messaging application for the Incredible. I realize that Handcent does this, but I am not the biggest fan of this on the Incredible, I really did enjoy it on the Droid though. On the topic of Handcent's blacklist, does this block text messages from people on the blacklist or does it just hide them?
Just out of no where. Can receive messages but every one I try to send a red exclamation point.t pops up. I try resending with no luck. Calling is normal and internet works great. I've looked thru all the settings and restarted the phone with no luck. I'm not the primary account holder so I have to wait for someone to call Verizon for me.
I've searched this out a bit and only found a rough answer on the old Hero forum, so wanted to make sure there isn't a more updated answer with the Incredible.I'm using the stock messaging app included with the phone. I noticed very quickly that any text messages that were sent to me while the phone was off or in airplane mode obviously wouldn't come through to the phone until I turned it back on or took it out of airplane mode. This is normal, but I realized the text messages that come through once I power on the phone show only the time I received them at, not the ACTUAL time the person sent it out to me.On all my old phones I could see when the person actually sent the messsage. Is there a way to get this information on the Incredible, or do I need to download a different text app to view this?
Is there any way to get a different sound to play for text messages than emails? It would be kinda nice to know in the middle of the night whether I need to reach for my phone or not. Shouldn't be an unreasonable request, but I can't see any way to do it on the phone.
I purchased an Eris 28 days ago with my NE2, and am upgrading to the Incredible tomorrow w/in the 30 day return window. I know how to transfer most of my stuff from one to the other (google sync, paid apps should be in the new market, save pics and docs to SD card, etc.), but is there a way to transfer my texts? I've been using Handcent, if that makes a difference.
Using Handcent for texts, but went into the Messages app and saw a bunch of "ghost" messages with a date of 12/31/69 (tap on the messages and they don't load). It turns out that when I receive a text it displays the correct date and time in both Handcent and Messages, but when I delete in in Handcent it goes into this "ghost" state in Messages. Has anybody else run into this?
I'm curious on this one. On my old Voyager I was able to get delivery reports with a check mark in my sent items folder, so I knew if my tm went through. Today I was told that someone was not getting my texts, which was a problem on there end, since I was able to send and receive to others without issue. So I was curious, and found a setting in the stock messaging app to enable delivery reports. It works, however it just displays a little envelope with a green exclamation point in it.
This is cool and all, however I get that same icon for both successful deliveries and to ones that show up as "Pending" when I view the report. So I was wondering if this is normal for Android phones, or if there is an app I can use to get a better icon/report for delivered texts.
I used the htc ringtone trimmed for one of the song in my music library on my phone and I'm sorry if there is already a thread for this but how are you able to delete these ringtones when you no longer want them? The program its self works fine for making ringtones but I cannot find anyway to delete them. I even looked in Astro. If someone doesnt mind could they please lend some advice on this. I've searched in the forums and I havnt found a solution to it.
I just did the stock undervolted a couple days ago, everything went smoothly, then today while texting my battery died. After plugging it back in and powering up, all the text messages and emails I've received since the install are now gone. The emails I easily retrieved, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if there is a solution to get the text messages back or stop it from happening again. My text messages are important for work.
