HTC Incredible : Way To Remove Cityid / Other Preinstalled App?
Jul 15, 2010
Got a few questions. I was able to root using unrevoked 3.0, was extremely easy with my macbook with 10.6.4. Now i have some questions. #1. How do i get back to the clockworkmod screen once my phone has booted #2. Having a mac how do i go about removing cityid and other preinstalled app?
I've just become the owned of a SE x10. Have wanted an Android for ages, but it had to be on 02! I've got one question, it campe with some pre-installed apps, such as moxier, which is for microsoft exchange servers, well i dont use one, but it wont let me uninstall it! Is there away arround this?
Ive had a look around various forums and cant seem to find an answer but is there a way, WITHOUT rooting, to remove preinstalled apps on the HTC Desire. Such as Facebook ,twitter, stocks, friendstream, footprints.
This is where it gets weird. When I tried to call out from my DINC, it would start dialing, then simply stop and say "call ended". During this apparent outage, CityID (worst crapware ever!) reactivated itself after a month and a half of being done with my trial (got the DINC on 4/29). Even though my calls weren't going through, CityID was identifying the location of the numbers I was trying to call.
After a couple hours, service resumed, everything was fine and CityID stopped working again (thankfully). When I go to my call history, all the numbers that I tried to call during that time have the city and state information from CityID. All the numbers before and after do not? Weird! I thought after the two week trial it was supposed to go dormant? I hope it never reactivates again as it has never, not once, been correct regarding the location of the number calling.
U mainly wanted to root to remove the unwanted apps preinstalled on my phone because I was tired of running out of space. I rooted successfully via Odin. downloaded root installer and removed the unwanted apps. Then I started playing around with other apps. But now when I try to use any of them I get "app was denied super user permission" and telling me I need to be rooted. I tried factory reset but that didn't work. In fact, I now can't even use app uninstaller to remove those apps.
Is there any way to remove preinstalled apps? I have several that came with the phone.e.g.the sims demo, uno trial, and so on. The thing is i can't remove them from the phone.Apps that i've installed myself are no problem at all to remove but these that came with the phone just won't be deleted. If i can't delete them can i just hide the icons somehow? thay just take up space in the phone.
How do you delete and completely remove the preinstalled FACEBOOK Application from a HTC Hero Android phone? I just got my Sprint HTC Hero Android phone and I noticed that it comes preloaded with FACEBOOK. While I know that most people would consider that great, I don't. Do to my job, I am prohibited from using FACEBOOK or MYSPACE and therefore, would have absolutly no use for the application. Please let me know how I can safely delete it so that I can free up memory on my HTC Hero.
Well I'm a newbie dinc user and I love this phone! But I hav some issues tht I hav to solve or I'll hav to get the Droid x or Droid 2 when it comes out next week.
I'm getting terrible signal. Everybody around me is getting like full bars and I barely have 1 maybe 2. Is there anything i can do to help this?
2nd is how do I uninstall the stock apps like cityid and fm radio? So maybe tht will help the pathetic battery life. And also which is the best extended battery to get both the same size and the larger, like what brands?
So there are a bunch of apps that I have no desire to see on a regular basis. This is my first android phone (coming from a BB) and I could usually remove apps from the listing of core apps in the desktop software, but haven't learned how to do this with the Android OS. The specific apps I'm talking about are the ones that came on the phone like Twitter, Flickr, and Peep.
I got an Atrix 2, installed one of lfaber06's ROMs, SuperCharged v5. I just booted up my phone today, which is my 2nd day with my phone. When it was done booting up, I unlocked the screen, and it said something about a 10 day trial about CityID.
I removed CityID without making a backup after root(I know dumb), but I was able to find an .apk of it off the net to download but am still getting a assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/CityID.apk" error. I am assuming its file permission error, if so, what are the file permissions supposed to be and how do I change them? Or if there is a way I can goto a stock Droid X straight from the factory that would work as well. (I have tried doing the stock factory restore from the phone itself but it fails to re-install CityID).
Just got the new HTC Incredible. Awesome phone and this forum has already been a huge help, so I figured I'd join and ask my first question. The phone of course came with some apps already installed. I went to uninstall them, but it doesn't show up. Is there a way to do it with out getting all into moving files and all that stuff? I basically want to get rid of Friend Stream and the Desk Clock (since the other app, Clock, has the desk clock and is the same thing, just a different default setting when you open it).I'd like to maybe ditch the GMail app too, because the Mail app is set up to my gmail and does everything I want it to do.
I know I can view PDFs, but what am I using to do it? I don't seem to have Reader listed in my installed apps list.I'm asking because I was going to update to the latest version, but now I'm not sure if I'll be updating or installing it for the first time. Does Froyo natively open PDFs or something? (On a related Adobe note, should I go ahead and install AIR now, in case I need it after Gingerbread comes out? I don't even know what it does, really, but apparently installing it *after* an OS update causes problems. Why Adobe can't just fix that issue, I have no idea.)
I've had problems with Gmail and Maps applications previously with Neophyte ROMs. In that case one of the solutions was removing the apks for these apps from with the /system/app folder of the ROM zip.My question is: Is it possible to add our own apks to the custom ROM so that these apks come preinstalled on the ROM when someone flashes it..in a manner, a kind of 2nd generation mod?Is it possible to add our own system variables and settings files so that the ROM autoinstalls it on First Install? In particular, I'd like to preset my own APN file for the network.
I titanium backup on my captivate and i backed up all the at&t preinstalled apps on my sd card (navigator, maps, radio, etc).i was wondering if i uninstall them will it mess up my captivate?? i wanna freeze them but u have to pay 4.00 for the other version and im trying to stay cheap and if i uninstall them can i put them back on using the backup?
I'm a sprint user/subscriber for work and am planning on getting a virgin mobile samsung intercept for personal use (which also has android OS 2.1) can I take some or any of the preinstalled apps from my samsung EPIC and copy them to my other phone?
The second video posted that shows the droid running 2.1 shows what seems to be a google voice update. The icon looks nicer to fit the 2.0/2.1 icons and it now says "Voice" instead of "Google Voice." This would be a welcomed change if so!
Does the Vibrant on T-Mobile USA come with Google navigation preinstalled or is it a separate download. My aunt bought one and I was trying to tell her about it and she said the man at the store said you had to pay $10 a month for GPS on the phone and I told her that was BS unless they specifically blocked it from being installed. She lives in another city so I won't be able to play with the phone for a while. She looked and said she didn't think she saw the navigation icon.
I'm working on a custom ROM for my Toshiba Thrive and I'd like to install some apps with data already placed on installation, but I can't find out how. An example would be ADW as a launcher. Right now, it boots and immediately goes to the welcome screen for a fresh install of ADW. I'd like to make a default theme for ADW so that when someone installs the ROM, they can avoid that initial setup of ADW.
I tried searching, but couldn't find anything about my question. My Droid came with Facebook preinstalled. Since the latest update for AppBrain, the list of updates available shows an update for Facebook. However, when I go to instal the update I am taken to the main install page. As if I didn't have Facebook installed already. When I got to the app manager in settings, Facebook is not listed as an installed app. Anyone know what is going on? Can I just download the marketplace Facebook app and not worry about there being two instances of Facebook on my system?
There's a new version of Facebook available on the Market, but because the Desire comes with the official Facebook app already installed it doesn't prompt you to update it.When you click to install the version on the Market, the phone is clever enough detect the preinstalled one and applies it as an update, so you don't end up with two Facebook apps in the phone menu or Manage Apps menu. After installing it the Manage Apps option changes from 'Clear data' to 'Uninstall updates' and the version has gone from 114 to 121. You'll also notice that the 'Take photo' tile has now been replaced with 'Inbox'. There's still no option to tag people in images.
Ok I realy like the update. But I am missing the weather part on the stock, sense UI, clock. I used astro to check for it an it isn't even listed any more. Is there anywhere to download just that piece (widget)? Thanks in advance for any help. My Sense home page just doesn't look right with out it.
