HTC Incredible :: Strange Behavior After Linking Sense Contacts With Facebook
Aug 10, 2010
I manually linked a few contacts in HTC Sense to their corresponding Facebook profile. Afterwards I see strange behavior including one or more of the following:The contact becomes unavailable to Google Gesture Search One or more single digit telephone numbers are added to the contact adding clutter. I learned I can delete these if I click Menu > Edit > choose Google > remove when clicking on the contact in the People app, I receive an error that the contact is not available I am running the stock Android 2.1 that shipped with my Incredible. This seems like a pretty substantial bug. Has anyone experienced and/or solved it?
Is there any way to automatically sync all your facebook contacts with Gmail contacts? My Incredible syncs some of the contacts but not all of them. I know there is the option to "link" information on your contacts but I have a huge number that have not linked and it would be a paint to manually go through all of them and do this on a contact by contact basis.
Has anybody found a way to remove Facebook contacts that HTC Sense Facebook adds to the overall phone book once you sign into this app? (The list that appears when you press Phone and not the People app.)
It's quite annoying having to trawl through lots of unnecessary non-Google Contacts entries to find the legitimate ones I want in my phone book.
My All People list has never had the Facebook View ticked and correctly displays just my Google Contacts, which is the only View ticked, but when you click on Phone the phone list displays all my Google Contacts and all my Facebook friends who display a phone number. I haven't found any way to remove these Facebook contacts from the Phone list, not even unchecking the Contacts Sync option for HTC Facebook works. The Phone list needs the same View option that the People app has got.
How does HTC Sense Facebook make associations with Google Contacts?
I've got three contacts where the phone has auto linked Facebook to Google, one doesn't have any details that match, Facebook name is different and they don't share their e-mail address on Facebook, and now has code in the notes section of their Google Contact entry to make the link, the other two names match their Facebook names exactly and don't have any code in their Google Contacts note section.
Back when my friend first got her Droid, she showed me that she synched her Facebook account to her phone and all of her contacts were from Facebook. Does this still work the same way for HTC's Sense UI?I know that you can synch your Facebook account to the Incredible but does it actually make all of your contacts your Facebook friends? This is a feature I would like alot because all of my friends that I am close with are my FB friends and I really like having all of my contacts have pictures and their full names.
I had to get a new EVO because my charging port failed on my first one. When I got the new EVO, I entered my gmail account & all my contacts came back down to the phone. I have re-installed all my programs and Facebook is working. I CAN NOT get my facebook to sync up with my contacts. I go into people, select the link icon, click Link to Facebook and it does nothing. I also went into Menu-Settings-Accounts & Sync and clicked Sync All (my facebook and gmail address are in there)--it runs the sync and I still get nothing. I pulled the battery, I updated my PRL & profile but it won't work. I even uninstalled Facebook, reinstalled it and it still won't work. Does anyone here have any ideas on how I get my FB contacts to sync up with my contacts?
Just got the Hero with Vodafone and have had no real problems, just wondering when i link my saved google contacts with there FB profile via the Hero, it allows me to pull there FB picture through as well but this doesn't seem to be displaying? I have looked at sites about FB privacy settings but couple of my friends have not got there privacay settings turned on.. still no picture?
I'm trying to link my contacts with my Facebook friends so I have their pictures etc in my phonebook/messaging. The problem is that when I try to link them, it only displays my Facebook friends from E-Z. It won't display/let me link to any contacts before E in the alphabet.
If I go to People> Update and Events> then click Link to Facebook and enter my info i keep getting an error message that says 'The service is currently unavailable. Do you want to try again?' How do I fix this damn thing?
When I first entered my account info for google and facebook it automatically linked my google contacts and facebook.
Forward to today and I had to delete and resync my contacts, after which it seems it wants me to link every contact individually. I must be missing something, surely there is a way to just tell it to make all suggested links.
Ever since switching to 2.1 (now on the newest leak, and btw does anyone know how we'd force the OTA to take if it doesn't on its own?), i am unable to link contacts on my phone to facebook people, which means no pictures, updates, or anything else.
I'm quite loving my Hero (T-Mobile UK) and rather like the ability to link contacts to their facebook profiles if only to have their birthdays remembered. The problem is I keep getting logged out (possibly just when I reset the phone) and when I log back it has forgotten which contacts were linked to which profiles.
I just recently got my xperia x10 and had to almost immediately upgrade to the 2.1 system. I am noticing a few things that I'm not fussy about from the 1.6 system but the thing that is bugging me the most is that I cannot (figure out how to) link contacts in my phonebook to their facebook and twitter accounts. In 1.6, when you edited a contact it gave you the option to click LINK. I cannot find any of this on the new system. As well, for contacts that I had linked before, their facebook profile pic (current from the time when i linked them before upgrading to 2.1) shows up on their contact information (i usually only link facebook, as i dont use twitter as much) and their profile is linked. However when i go into EDIT, it says FACEBOOK, Timescape and a big exclamation mark that has a message beside it saying : Timescape Plug-In Manager contact information is not editable on this device. i SHOULD be able to edit and link all my contacts. that was the whole purpose of the xperia having this timescape program.
Having a few problems ringing people on my phone. I get a voice saying "the number you have called has not been recognised". I looked at the number and it start 447xxxxxxxxxx I went to edit the number in phonebook and it's fine cos it starts off as 07xxxxxxxxx, i have to edit the number each time i wanna ring these person now unless they're in my previous call list! They are linked to their facebook profile but they don't store their number of facebook so why is it being converted to 447xxxxxxxxxx if it has the + before the 44 i think it would be an issue! I've never had this issue before either
I am the proud new owner of a Droid 2. After messing around with it for 2 days, I finally figured out how to link my Facebook contacts with my already existing phone contacts, so I did not have people in there twice, under two different names! However, only SOME of them are allowing me to change their caller ID names. For instance, my Mom is on Facebook, so instead of having her caller ID as her FB name, it allowed me to change it to "Mom", but for other contacts, it won't let me. Any idea why, or how to fix this? Also, is there still NO way to get rid of the unwanted contacts without deleting them from your Facebook friends list? That is driving me nuts! I don't need ALL 225 of my facebook friends in my phone.
I linked my facebook to contacts and some worked and some didnt? is there a way to go into a contact and say "this is the contact goes with this facebook" and likewise "this contact goes with this gmail contact"... since the names in my phone are not the same as the way they are saved in gmail of facebook? like a Jeffery might be saved as jeff in my phone...?
I'm am trying to link some phone contacts to my facebook friends. Most of them work, but sometimes when I manually try to link someone and "pick a facebook friend off the facebook friend list, sometimes my friends don't show up on that list?
I had to go and delete my friend stream and delete my account because I kept getting force close errors when trying to update my friendstream. Now all my contacts are not linked to their facebook accounts anymore. When I try to re-link them they say No matches found. I know their names are correct. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Last night I downloaded antivirus free by droidSecurity inc.I ran a scan and it said I had something suspicious but would not allow me to view any details. Eh lame, I removed the app and jumped into bed.Today I was out driving around and got a warning my internal Phone memory was low. I took a look and it said 150 MB free.so I rebooted the phone and maybe I was being dumb because I thought you could cancel the SIM password and use the device as a PDA with no access to make phone calls.Anyhow I restored my clockwork recovery nandroid backup from a couple of days ago and now things seem better. Phone has 0.9 GB free. Are there any good applications to help manage the available memory on the phone?
I am having some problems with the default messaging app. Everything was fine until I downloaded Handcent. After playing around with Handcent, I decided to remove it. After I did, when I tried to send a picture with the default client, it would appear to send properly, but the person I was sending too would get a notification that the attached media was 'too large' or something similar, and not be able to view the picture Finally, I reinstalled Handcent and could send pictures from it just fine. I noticed that Handcent asks to resize pictures when sending where the default app does not. I could not find any settings for 'resize' in the default app. I figured I just had a bug with the default client, and continued to use Handcent with no problems. I would periodically check the default client, with the same results. Finally, after several days of using nothing BUT Handcent, I decided to give the default app another try, and now I find that it is working again with no problems, and in fact, the pictures I send with it that are apparently NOT resized look better on the phones I send them to than the ones I send with Handcent. Has anyone else had a problem like this, or know what could be going on?
I activated an almost new Epic this weekend, and it has been amazing so far.I only noticed one strange erratic occurence - when I put the phone to standby, and went to look at it a little while later, the screen was already on.I clicked on home, and as soon as I did that, it would somehow activate the google search widget, and bring up the keyboard as if you pressed the search widget. I'd press home, and it would do the same thing again. It kept repeating it over and over no matter what I did.I finally powered the phone off, and then turned it back on.After that, there were no further issues. Anyone else had anything like this happen?
Converted blackberry of 5 years here. Just signed up but I've been reading everything about the DInc since I got it on 4/29. I've see a lot of FB syncing posts, but I'm not sure if anyone found a solid resolution for it. What I'm trying to do is this, and maybe this question and answer can be a good area to finalize the solution instead of looking through all of the 100 threads that have been hijacked and derailed 100 times over.
Bottom line, I have 400 FB contacts who I don't care about I have 100 Phone contacts who I do care about. I want to link my FB info only to the phone contacts that I have (meaning leave the 300 people on FB out of my contact list, and update the people on my phone list only). Now I've found a partial solution so far - but my end result is not good. 1. Sync facebook under accounts and wait for all contacts to appear in your contact list. 2. proceed to scream and yell and ask your ceiling why the hell all these people are on this list. 3. in people - menu - choose only phone, and make sure facebook is unchecked. That seems to solve 50% of the problem.
But when you go to dial, every single person from hell to heaven shows up in that phone list, and there is no way to filter just "phone" contacts, vs. "facebook" contacts like you can do in your people app. Is there anyway, somehow, at this point in time, that you can get rid of those FB friends from your phone list? Or do we have to deal with this for now? And also, I'm ready to just remove facebook, and use the mobile site, because I can't stand typing in john, and having 2 in my phone book, but 20 come up because of my FB friends who I don't give a rat's a$$ about. What have we found yet, and sorry if I'm being redundant, that being said, that's no excuse for being redundant but I did use the search feature and I found nothing but derailed posts, and complaints, but what we need is a solution for this.
I am not sure if this has already discussed, but I couldn't find the thread with the same issue, so I am posting this. This may be a bug, or may be a feature that is incomplete. I am using the Droid Incredible with OTA'ed froyo 2.2, with factory resetted. My wife's Droid Incredible with OTA'ed froyo 2.2 without resetted has exactly the same issue. This seems to happen from fundamental android OS layer directly, as it appears on both launchpro and Sense UI.
I don't remember if the phone showed the same option with OS 2.1, but after update, I noticed the strange second option has been appeared with some of my contacts. I tried to un-link those contacts (i.e. phone contacts, google contacts or twitter contacts, etc) to figure out which part is making this problem with no success. Does anybody have the same issue? When I click the problematic option icon, the pop-up window comes offering me a choice of action with different applications.
I seem to be having an issue with my "People" and Facebook for HTC Sense... The basics are that I have 260 friends on Facebook and HTC Sense has imported over 27000 records!!! So now whenever I try to send a text message it takes about 10 minutes for the contacts to load up!
I've tried removing the account but that just stops my "People" app from working at all.
I've gone in to People > view and then unselected the Facebook for HTC Sense which removes them in the "People" app but they still show when I use the "Search People" app or try to select a contact to send a text message!
I am at the end of my tether with this and if I can't find a solution I'm getting rid of the phone.
Well, I seem to either A) have a problem or B) it's a problem just in general.I have Facebook installed, and there's obviously Facebook for HTC Sense. I want to sync my Facebook account and only that. I don't personally care to use the Sense inspired widgets because I like my streams separate.Anyway, I go into the Accounts menu in settings and removed the Facebook for Sense account and tried to add a new account, but whenever I click Facebook, it does absolutely nothing.I don't understand what's going on. If anyone has any clue, I'd love to hear it!
There isn't a "Social Network" option in 1.6, and I was wondering if there was any way to connect my Facebook friends to my contacts to get their photos. Either through a 3rd party app or some different setting that I don't know about.
I have the following activity structure in my application A simple "splash screen" activity is started when the application is fired up (let's call it "Splash"). This activity starts the main activity when the user presses a button (I will call it "Main"). Main can in turn start two activities from the menu. The first activity presents a simple form (let's call this one "Form"), the second is a MapActivity that presents a map (it is called "Map"). Main, Form, and Map are declared exactly the same in the manifest: <activity android:name="fully qualified activity class" android:screenOrientation="landscape" android:configChanges="keyboard|keyboardHidden|orientation" > <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.DEFAULT" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" /> </intent-filter> </activity> When Main is active and I start Form and press "back", Main comes up again. Pressing "back" again brings up "Splash". Nothing strange here. Now comes the strange part: when I am in Main, start Map, and press "back", Main comes up as expected. But pressing "back" again just restarts Main. A second press on "back" is needed to bring me back to Splash! So it seems that starting the Map activity somehow results in Main ending up on the activity stack twice while starting the Form activity does not! Both Form and Map are started like this: start Activity(new Intent(this, MyActivity.class)); I don not catch the back key in any activity.Any clues on what is going on or how to debug this?
