So the HTC sense is nice and pretty, but I think it causes some unnecessary flakiness. Is there anyway to install a plain 2.1 os? Or is this not possible with no root access?

I think this phone is the best one on the market regarding hardware, but I am a bit concerned about its software.
I have a N1 and if I can put Froyo (when Froyo gets released) without all that crap Samsung adds up to it I'd buy one.
Even better if I could have Cyanogen 6 (which will probably be based on Froyo).
So, any news about rooting this phone?
To install jager's froyo rom does my Incredible need root? Or can I simply install it. According to what I have encountered I do not have sufficient permissions to run the "update.zip" for the rom. Can anyone help?

What I need to know is what order to install things. Do I install the leaked OTA update and then root?Is the OTA update officially out yet, and if so should I just wait for that to download and install before rooting?

I'm pretty tech savvy, so it's nothing over my head, I'm just unfamiliar with it.I'm really unhappy with Motorola's latest droid x update. Updating to Froyo seems to have just made my phone significantly slower, the rotation is less responsive, etc. (the 2.3.15 update) All I would really want to do is, I'd want to root the phone and just load a stock Froyo ROM onto here. No extra moto or verizon BS, just the stock OS and whatever apps I want on it. Does that make sense? How would I go about doing that?

First of all I rooted using mejdam 10 minute root on youtube and I originally only wanted it for the flashlight and the WiFi tether, I rely on my WiFi tether now and well I want 2.2 also, I've never nandroid backup my phone or anything like that I just rooted and left it. What should I do now that I wanna install 2.2 and keep root? What would be the steps of going about this.

I bought my phone and in-therefore own my phone. Should I not be allowed to have full access to the piece of equipment if I so want? I'm not renting it, such as in the case of a cable box, nor am I leasing, rent-to-own, etc...I understand the need to block users out from certain areas of the phone for the general public to ensure uniform reliability and technical support, but as the owner of the individual piece of equipment, should HTC be ethically bound to release information on how to give me full root access to the equipment that I paid for? I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.
After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:

to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?

There are only a couple of things that I miss from stock sense. The one that I am after is a bookmark widget. I can't find any on the market. This got me thinking about widgets in general. There should be a list of widgets somewhere for people going to vanilla Roms. Is there such a list anywhere? We need one similar to the rooted apps thread. Just a thought. And if someone has any thoughts on a bookmark widget, that would be awesome. Or would the stock one work and where can I find it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo the other day I went to download an app out of the market. The download finished, but it seems my phone decided to auto-reboot itself in the midst of the installation. After the reboot completes, I go back to the market, reselect the app, and it's hung at "Installing..." (And when I say "hung," the market is still fully functional except that one app). I'm given no option to cancel the installation. Killing the market app then trying to go back in has no effect - same deal. Hung on install. Another reboot didn't help.
Is there any way to delete the install package and make the market forget I even tried in the first place?
It's Angry Birds (wanted to see what all the fuss was about), but the install seems to have failed in a way that any app install could have failed.
