HTC Incredible :: How To Install New Kernels?

Sep 27, 2010

I always have gotten great help here - and for all the talk of wiping dalvik and other caches, I haven't found a straight forward guide for now to prepare my phone for installation of a new kernel.I've been on skyraider awhile, and put King BFS 4 on. I'd like to go to the new BFS 5 and see if it improves the battery life. Can someone point me toward a simple guide of how to prepare the phone for a new kernel? I know how to install it. What caches need to be wiped? Can it be done through clockwork? I've already done the nandroid backup.

HTC Incredible :: Kernels For CM6?

Aug 3, 2010

i have been running CyanogenMod6 test8 for awhile now, and I really like it. only problem I've seen so far is the camcorder which they've already mentioned so I knew that going into it. I have also been using a hydra kernel from their website hydrakernel.net and just now realized that the camera does not work with this kernel. so, my question is, are they any kernels besides the stock one that comes with the CM6 ROM? also, does the stock kernel with CM6 have wireless N capabilities? also, my settings > wireless & networks > tethering and portable hotspots > wireless hotspot does not work. is this a CM6 thing or is it a hydra kernel thing? I restored my phone to CM6 with the stock CM6 kernel and the portable hostpot works just fine. so that answers that part of my question.

HTC Incredible :: ROM Installing - Working With Kernels Necessary?

Oct 17, 2010

I've been comfortable with my rooted HTC Inc for a few weeks not but I'm considering the possibility of going to ROMs to tinker with my phone even more. Still, I have a list of things that must always work:

Camera/Camcorder
Phone: Goes without saying.
LauncherPro
WidgetLocker

I've already made a Nanadroid backup, I'm going to purchase Titanium Backup this week for a full backing up of apps and everything else. The music, movies and photos are going to be backed up on the laptop. I've heard many times that ROM Manager makes the process rather painless. Is that still the case? Does it wipe if all I have is a newly rooted phone with wireless tether installed? I've read the answers stating no, when it's upgrading from say 2.7 to 3.0.

But otherwise? Is it really as I've read? ROM Manager, choose and let it install? (This, I'm not entirely certain of from what I've read on the boards.) At the moment, I'm looking towards Virtuous. What swayed me was the possibility of the HTC 3.0 sense when it's more stable and the fact that everything else that I'm looking at, such as: Hulu, DSP Audio are part of the Rom Manager setup. The last question I have is, is there a necessity in working with kernels immediately or can I just use what it comes with for now?

HTC Incredible :: Reason - Why All Kernels Not Work For Every Device?

Jul 16, 2010

I am only drawing off my knowledge of the Eris here, but we have a similar issue where certain kernels dont work or everyone. The issue for us is that the eris ships with 2 possible touchscreen drivers, depending on the driver a kernel may/may not work on your phone-the touchscreen may become unresponsive after flashing.

I want to see if this could be the same reason for you guys. Can you post what your touchscreen driver is and which kernels do/dont work for you? You can find your driver version under the fastboot menu under touchscreen. (Fastboot is Send + End for the Eris)

HTC Incredible :: Phone Reboot During App Install - Can't Finish Or Cancel Install

Oct 22, 2010

So the other day I went to download an app out of the market. The download finished, but it seems my phone decided to auto-reboot itself in the midst of the installation. After the reboot completes, I go back to the market, reselect the app, and it's hung at "Installing..." (And when I say "hung," the market is still fully functional except that one app). I'm given no option to cancel the installation. Killing the market app then trying to go back in has no effect - same deal. Hung on install. Another reboot didn't help.

Is there any way to delete the install package and make the market forget I even tried in the first place?

It's Angry Birds (wanted to see what all the fuss was about), but the install seems to have failed in a way that any app install could have failed.

HTC EVO 4G :: Kernels BFS Or CFS?

Nov 11, 2010

I'm looking to try out a few different kernels for my new Myn's warm ROM. Right now I'm using netachy-toastmod 4.1.9.1 CFS.Seems to work just fine, but I wonder if it could be better with say kings kernel. These and baked kernels seem to be the consensus for Warm.My question is what's the deal with CFS and BFS. What's the difference? I've searched and I'm having a hard time coming up with answers. I'm just wondering what I should be using.

HTC Eris :: Overclocked Kernels

Aug 23, 2010

There have been a few queries here and there about kernels which are noted as being overclocked by the developers of the ROMs they're used in.

Zach, the developer of the xtrROM series, tells me this about those kernels (when asked for clarification about them):

* A kernel that is capabile of being overclock does not mean the ROM is OC by default and you will have to review the devs OP to determine what they have done.

* Most DO NOT OC by default because they are using another devs kernels (there are only a few devs that know kernel code, I use Zanfurs) and

* IF it IS OC by default then you do not "need" SetCPU or other such app unless you want to use the custom profiles as you mentioned.

HTC EVO 4G :: Kernels / Set CPU Battery Comparison?

Sep 18, 2010

So I have been playing around with different kernels and settings and logging them in System Panel. I will explain details below each pic. Usage was the similar each day with a little bit of tethering, alot of web surfing, imobsters texting and email with kids playing some games here and there as well. Running Fresh 3.2 with different kernels on different days. Monday night I installed Fresh 3.2 and ran the Fresh kernel with SetCPU ondemand and screen off profile and ran it the same way through Thursday. Late Thursday evening I installed Kings #9 bfs kernel and uninstalled SetCPU and ran it all day Friday Late Friday I reinstalled SetCPU and set it to conservative and ran it that way all day Saturday. As you can see, Tues, Wed, and Thurs were all very consistent. Tues I got appx 15-16 hours, Wed I got 14-15 hours and Thurs appx 12-13 hours. Friday was by far the best just letting the kernel do its thing with no SetCPU. Saturday sucked! Battery was dead by 6 pm with appx 9 hours use. I just flashed the Fresh stock kernel back on and uninstalled SetCPU and will see how that compares tomorrow. Sure would like to see the 1.5 days flipz is getting! I have read several places now that SetCPU may be counter productive since the newer kernels are managing things better lately. Does anybody know if the Fresh 3.2 stock kernel is using HAVS?

Motorola Droid :: Thoughts On Kernels

Sep 27, 2010

Have been testing kernels the past few days, have a few thoughts:I've tried the Slayher v1.6 kernel, ChevyNo1's ULV, jdflg's, and p3droid's, all 1200mhz. With all kernels set to "on demand", I can't say for sure if any one gives more battery life than any other, my usage is too variable. P3Droid's are 125mhz base clock, while the others are 250 or 300mhz, but there wasn't an obvious difference with my use. I'm guessing at low clocks, processor drain is negligible unless you're going to be in a semi-sleep state for a long time. All kernels bench about the same, and P3Droid's don't feel any slower even with the lower base clock, which suggests to me that most kernel makers should consider including a sub-200mhz option. Kernels with "interactive governor" subjectively feel slightly faster when using interactive governor, but battery life is definitely a little shorter. All kernels seem equally stable. All kernels seem to run about the same temperature, with maybe a very slight edge to Chevy's ULV kernel (~2c loaded). Temperature monitoring is not very accurate. I turned on my phone earlier in class, to see a 13c CPU temp. That's about 8-10c below ambient. This is consistent on all kernels I have tried.

HTC EVO 4G :: Browser Slower On Custom Kernels

Was pondering if anyone else notice, the stock browser being a tad bit slower (about 7 seconds) with a custom kernel, compared to stock.

Yes i have tried multiple kernels with the same results, i wonder why this is the case, i love the features (unlocked fps/Over-under clocking) of some of the custom kernels , but losing 7-8 seconds is rather annoying especially on 3G. Running Froyo btw.

HTC EVO 4G :: Do All Kernels Kill Battery Life?

Sep 13, 2010

So I am on my 2nd kernel now other than stock. I tried netarchy .18 and currently using kings 9 bfs. I am running stock rooted froyo. The stock kernel gave me the best battery, both netarchy and kings kernels have given better performance. Is there a best of both worlds, i.e. a kernel that gives better performance over stock AND better battery life? With the netarchy kernel I used 25 percent of my battery in 2 hours from a full charge. So far with kings I have used 10 percent in 30 minutes from full charge! This compared to stock which was 90 percent over 20 hours. Any ideas or suggestions?

HTC EVO 4G :: Need To Flash Custom Kernels Onto Stock ROM?

Oct 22, 2010

I have a couple questions i was wondering could get answered by people with knowledge on the subject. I am pretty new to all this root and flashing scene with these android phones.

so here goes.

About a month [or so] ago i rooted my phone from stock 2.2 i had to downgrade to 2.1 -> root -> back to 2.2. since then i have been enjoying the pleasure of running apps like wifi tether adfree and so on. well i recently found out that because my phone was rooted ( i am still running stock ROM) that i cant update the pri and the kernal ( again i don't really know what this stuff really is, i just know it can help performance and battery wise). so

1. i was wondering if i can flash custom kernels onto the stock ROM.
2. are there any things i can flash onto my rooted stock ROM to help with battery life or anything else?

I currently have
pri version 1.40_003
baseband 2.15.00.07.28
kernel 2.6.32.15-g746f4f0 htc-kernal@and18-2 #58
build number 3.26.651.6
