HTC Incredible :: Hotspot Froyo Custom Install

Aug 30, 2010

I am a new member here, just joined a few days ago. I've had my HTC Incredible (Verizon) for about 2-3 weeks and so far I love it. I've been reading these forums every day, multiple times a day ever since I joined here a few days ago, but haven't posted anything yet. I remember the first day I joined here I saw a thread that was discussing a custom Froyo ROM that you could install on your phone that would NOT root your phone. However, I also saw one that allowed free hotspot tethering, that didn't accrue any charges from Verizon Wireless, unless I am mistaken, but I beleive I did read that someone where on here. I'm not looking for someone to walk me through how to install, or root the phone or anything like that, I understand all the inns and outs of doing that.....I provide PC technical support for a living, working on my B.S. degree in Computer Science, so I'm pretty fluent in the technical aspects of working the phone and rooting and all of that, I was just trying to have someone point me in the right direction to the Foryo that you could install on your phone that would do the following two options:1. I would prefer the version that doesn't root the phone, but instead just installs, if I have to end up rooting the phone that's fine, I would just prefer not to only because of possibly voiding the warranty, not because I'm afraid of screwing it up haha, I feel perfectly comfortable doing it if I must.2. I read one of these allowed free hotspot tethering and also got rid of Verizon's bloatware as well, I don't know if all of these are found all in one custom rom, but if they are that would be great if you could point me in the direction where I can download it at.

Motorola Droid :: Wireless Hotspot On Froyo W/o Custom Rom

Aug 7, 2010

I have a Droid running the recent Froyo update. I'm wondering if there is a way to root my phone and do something (install an app?) that will allow me to use the phone as a wifi hotspot without installing a custom rom? I'm not a super adventurous user (mostly concerned about speed/stability); I would just like to utilize this feature if possible.

If it isn't possible to do this without installing a custom rom, is there a rom available that makes minimal changes to the standard OS just to enable a few missing features like tethering and wifi hotspot?

HTC Incredible :: Manually Install Froyo Update

Sep 1, 2010

I followed the instructions posted on here yesterday to unroot my phone - worked fine. The superuser and and wifi tether are now gone. I went in this morning to try to manually install the froyo update from android and me, and when trying to run it, I get the following:

Install from dscard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying Update Package...
Installing Update...
assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop"
. "") == "verizon/inc/inc/inc
:2.1-unpdate1/ERE27/161494:user/release-keys" II
file_getpropr("/system/build.prop", "") == "verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/231334:user/release-keys"
E:error in sdcard/
installation aborted

what I need to do at this point to get 2.2 installed properly? Will the OTA update work, or am I hosed? (Status 7) Installation Aborted.

HTC Incredible :: Forced Install Of Froyo On Unrooted Motodroid?

Aug 24, 2010

Why does the Inc have to be rooted in order to install Froyo? My Motodroid1 was able to install a leaked Froyo without having to root. Is there something more difficult in the software that the Inc uses or is it the actual leaked versions were never designed for an Incredible or what? I really don't understand why we seem to be lagging the Motodroid community in being able to install this. I'm sure someone has a perfectly good explanation and I obviously don't have a clue. I am a newbie with the Inc and I did love my Droid1 until it got run over and no replacements were available. I have to say that so far I am not that impressed with my Incredible. It's slimmer, I rarely used the slide out keyboard on the Droid 1-so I don't miss that, a few things seem to respond a little quicker, but overall I liked my old Droid1 better. The 2.2 I forced on the Droid was a huge improvement over 2.1. The 3d gallery glitches were gone, the mass updates were great, camera worked super. Battery life was always excellent, pics were clear, no dropped calls, always had a signal. Output volume to headphones was a little weak on a motorcycle but I solved that with a nice little pocket amp. I don't mean to knock our phones but... I never had to worry about battery life, poor signal strength,etc. And I miss the 3D gallery after the fix but I did find a thread here to help me install it in the Inc. When 2.2 gets here it should be a nice improvement but I wish battery life wasn't an issue and signal strength was better. I don't feel like spending some pretty good change for a high output battery.

Nexus :: Froyo 2.2 Hotspot Tethering

Jul 6, 2010

Has anyone else notice the slow tethering speed on Froyo (FRF91)?I ran speedtest on 3 devices while tethering is turned. Here are the result:Nexus One (the tethering host device): 2Mbit/s down, 600Kbit up.My laptop on WIN 7 (connect to the hotspot): 200Kbit/s D, 600Kbit up Ipad (connected to the hotspot): 400Kb down, 600Kb up.The slow speed really annoys me. Even youtube is not watchable at the lowest quality setting. However, the upload speed is actually stay unaffected in all 3 situations, which made me think somehow the speed is controlled by Froyo.

HTC Incredible :: Wireless 3G Hotspot

Sep 30, 2010

I just got a WiFi IPad so i'm wanting to wireless tether. I already had PDNet for my notebook but of course thats not going to work for the IPad. I looked at the 3G Hotspot feature on the incredible and of course i tried it just to see if it would work and it doesn't. You just get a verizon page when you try to browse the web. I know in the past you had to root to be able to tether wirelessly. With Froyo does that still hold true or is there some type of app you can download off the android marketplace? I don't know if i'm big on rooting my phone. Verizon i think will charge $20 for the convenience right?

HTC Incredible :: Wifi Hotspot Vs Wireless Tethering

Sep 19, 2010

I recently rooted my Incredible and installed Cyanogen 6.00 RC3. I liked some things about it but missed some of the stock HTC widgets and apps. The Cyanogen rom had wifi hot spot, and it worked great. I could connect more than one computer to it, as it acted like a Hotspot.

Today i reflashed to Virtuous 2.7 Rom, which is alot like the stock 2.2. I got back the things I missed in Cyanogen but no wifi hotspot. Instead, there is "Wireless Tethering" which doesn't seem to work. The latest version is installed, version 2.0.5-pre9. Neither of my computers can "see" the connection.

Is there any way I can get the wifi hot spot app that was in Cyanogen and install it on my phone with the Virtuous 2.7 Rom? wireless tethering really doesn't do what I want it to.
