HTC Incredible : Google Voice Call Billing - Setting Up GV Account
Jun 18, 2010
Well it looks like questions for Google Voice are in threads all over the place so I guess I'll start another one here. Here goes. I'm setting up my GV account and plan on selecting a GV number. Now will people calling me on my new number see any difference billing-wise compared to my current cell number? I know this doesn't really apply to cell phones but what about someone calling from a land line? The GV number I am selecting will be based out of the city I live in. Will that equate to the city or area of my current cell number?
Why am I posting a GV question in the EVO forum? Because I don't know if this 'problem' is a GV thing or an EVO+Sense thing. So here goes. My GV account is set up with call filtering. That is where, when you answer the phone, an automated voice tells you who is calling and asks if you want to send to voicemail or answer, etc. It does this for every call. The annoying part is.
I just started using Google Voice last week and am in the process of dumping my BB Curve on my business line and using my GV number for work and having just one phone with multiple mail boxes (pretty exciting for me ) but in the demo videos I've seen they have the option to merge calls and also and this is a big one screen calls. I only get the stock screen on my DI when it comes in. How to use these features?
I have my phone set up with an All Call Block (outgoing caller ID blocked) with VZW. When I make a GV call using the Android app, it says something about the call can't be completed as dialed. Does the app not work with phones that have an All Call Block? I did call VZW to remove the block, but, since it's a corporate account, I needed a password, which I didn't have. But, I think she removed it prior to asking me for the password and GV appears to be working now. I want to see if anyone can confirm that definitely was the reason and if there are any workarounds for using the GV app and keeping my All Call Block. I can make a blocked GV call by manually dialing *67 then my GV # and using the dial out method, but that defeats the purpose of the GV app since that makes everything so easy. I guess the difference in using the GV app vs using a non-android phone is that the GV app dials a "special" number so, if I have the All Call Block, it can't see who I am I thought I recalled that if I dialed my GV number from my non-android phone with the All Call Block, it still recognized me (which is possible since the block only blocks caller ID, but the true number is still sent in the stream). So, bottom line, can I not use the GV app if I have All Call Block or is there a workaround?
I have two gmail accounts, each with their own Google Voice account. Account 1 is my primary account, and I have even ported my phone number to this account. I'm using this account on my phone (nexus 5), and have 0 issues with this account. All texts, voicemails, etc come through with no issues. Account 2 is largely not used. I would like to use account 2 on my nexus 7, for texts, and maybe making calls if I don't want to give out my real number to someone.
My issue is when I'm logged in to account 2 on my nexus 7, I'm getting text notifications for account 1 on my nexus 7. But if I were to open Google Voice on the nexus 7, once GV refreshes, the texts disappear. It doesn't happen the other way around. If I get a text/vm to account 2, it does not notify my phone, which is logged in to account 1.
I've checked the settings in both GV accounts, and neither account is linked to the other, or to send copies of texts/vm notifications to the other. How do I stop notifications from GV account 1 to stop displaying on account 2? I have cleared cache, data, uninstalled the app. The only thing i have not done, is a reset of the nexus 7.
I was initially logged in to account 1 on my nexus 7, but I would have thought removing the app from the device would have essentially erased all traces of the account 1 on the nexus 7. I even signed out of hangouts, to make sure Google was not treating this like my phone, and sending it both places.
I use Google Voice (love it) primarily because of it's visual voicemail on my Droid. I do have a Google Voice number, and I'm trying to decide whether to set the Droid app to "make calls using Google Voice" or not.
I have no problem with giving out a different number, and my placed calls seeing the GV number in caller ID.
My question is, does this affect how the call is actually connected, from a quality standpoint? I tired a call both ways, and the sound quality seemed a little bit different. But then, I am an obsessive compulsive weirdo.
Is there any difference in call quality or routing between making a native Verizon call and a Google Voice call on Droid? (Like, does Google voice actual use 3G to connect to Google server over the internetz, then place the phone call?)
Any way to use a non-google e-mail address to setup a google account? I could've sworn this was possible before. I'm basically getting my kids Nexus 7's but rather than sign them all up for gmail when they already have e-mail accounts, I was hoping I could just use their existing e-mails for simplicity.
Never had problem before, and not sure what happened. Today, I tried to send a phone pic via email, and came up with this error message on Notification Panel:
"Unable to send mail."
"The account setting is incorrect (Yahoo)."
I press on the actual Notification, and it automatically prompts me to change account settings.
Edit Account firstname.lastname@example.org
Incoming Settings Protocol > IMAP Email address > email@example.com Password > ******* IMAP server > android.imap.mail.yahoo.com Security type > SSL Server Port > 993
Above is my current settings, but I did not change anything.
I re-entered my yahoo password to see if that's problem, and now get a warning message saying, "Authentication failed. Please verify username/password" but that's my correct username and password for Yahoo.
Just got my desire yesterday and i'm wondering how to use google voice call? cus there's nothing in the manual i held the search button and said "call home" but it brings up the browser can someone give me a step by step guide on how to use this feature this is my first smartphone so go easy.
I use google voice to send all my calls on my cliq xt but I was wondering if there is a way to have people call my google voice number and not have it count towards my minutes. Also is there a way to have the sms be integrated with the built in android sms app or have the voice app constantly be open?
Didn't know if anyone had a similar problem or a fix. Google voice is working fine, but after installing doubletwist, about 80% of the time after I hang up a call, Doubletwist will launch automatically and play a random song. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Doubletwist, but no change.
Any ideas other than uninstall and leave off Doubletwist?
I have had Google voice for a while now. And yesterday I added a line into my plan and got the Droid. I downloaded Google voice app and everytime I try to place a call it tells me I am unable to make the call. I did set my new number as the phone being used. Any suggestions? Or is there something up with Google voice?
I remember last year that Sprint was going to announce free call forwarding for google voice. is this true? Any updated info? I've never followed up on that news but now that I have the Evo, I want to take advantage of the Google Voice App.
I don't like the sense screen that comes up when you make calls, and I have google voice installed. How do I make sure that the google voice screen, pictured below, sticks instead of having it switch to the sense call screen. Also, can I theme the google voice app? I'm not a fan of the colors.
I use the Google Voice (GV) click to call (click-to-call / ctt) feature quite a bit. When it rings my phone, my OWN google voice number shows up in my phone's call log. Does anybody know if it is possible, or how, to get the click-to-call initiated calls to show up as the person that I was calling in my phone's call log?
I can't make calls using google voice. What happens is I will dial a number and press send, then something will pop up asking me if I want to make the call with GV or without GV. I choose WITH GV and it will start out okay, but after 5 seconds it goes back to the normal call screen and calls regularly with out GV. Is there anyone who can help me out with this? I have a droid eris.
For me, it appears so, sucks because latest Google Voice is great and the sole reason I want to go back to 1.5 (and then maybe the root 2.1 etcs)Confirmed for me, calls now show google voice number in latest google voice app! (as displayed in long list of fixes/improvements.) I definitely encourage any old Leak V2 users to upgrade that want the latest Google Voice!
Does anyone know why Google Voice requires an area code to call? I understand that the number it dials from could be from anywhere, so it may need an area code to complete the call, but how about an option to dial a default area code when the person does not enter one?
I just checked my battery and my awake time is 1:00 hr while my voice calls under battery usage show 1h 41 min.I am just asking to better understand the Android OS the time for my voice calls seems to be on par but how does it show that the phone was only awake for 1 hr?Should the awake time not be the same or greater depends on what I did while the phone is not "sleeping"? I am just a little confused by this...could someone pls explain?
I have my original gmail account "slaved" to my google apps account, so when I log in to firstname.lastname@example.org it displays my google apps email@example.com as being logged in. For most things this is great, but now with the android phone there are some gotchya's First was the Market. I had to create yet another gmail account to buy anything off the market, because when I sign in to my 'gmail' account on my phone it signs me in as an apps user.
Second, is my google voice (attached to gmail) has its own set of contacts associated with my gmail account, and they are not synced with my google apps account. I was hoping the phone would sort of mesh them together, however I'm not seeing that. On my iPhone I was using soocial, however they recently stopped allowing unlimited contacts and their new free limit is below my number of contacts. Is there a way for the phone to keep these to contact lists "connected" and synced together?
I was wondering if anyone has been using Google Talk exclusively for SMS and ditched their texting w Verizon all together. I mainly ask as I am curious how reliable it is as a replacement for SMS. I'd love to cut my phone bill by $20 a month. My friend (5-6 months ago) said he was having issues w Gtalk in regards to some msgs not sending, or he never actually received them to his phone. He had issues with his N1 on Tmobile. Is anyone still experiencing similar problems? My SMS MUST function and be completely reliable as I use it constantly to communicate with my managers.
