I just started using Google Voice last week and am in the process of dumping my BB Curve on my business line and using my GV number for work and having just one phone with multiple mail boxes (pretty exciting for me ) but in the demo videos I've seen they have the option to merge calls and also and this is a big one screen calls. I only get the stock screen on my DI when it comes in. How to use these features?
I have my phone set up with an All Call Block (outgoing caller ID blocked) with VZW. When I make a GV call using the Android app, it says something about the call can't be completed as dialed. Does the app not work with phones that have an All Call Block? I did call VZW to remove the block, but, since it's a corporate account, I needed a password, which I didn't have. But, I think she removed it prior to asking me for the password and GV appears to be working now. I want to see if anyone can confirm that definitely was the reason and if there are any workarounds for using the GV app and keeping my All Call Block. I can make a blocked GV call by manually dialing *67 then my GV # and using the dial out method, but that defeats the purpose of the GV app since that makes everything so easy. I guess the difference in using the GV app vs using a non-android phone is that the GV app dials a "special" number so, if I have the All Call Block, it can't see who I am I thought I recalled that if I dialed my GV number from my non-android phone with the All Call Block, it still recognized me (which is possible since the block only blocks caller ID, but the true number is still sent in the stream). So, bottom line, can I not use the GV app if I have All Call Block or is there a workaround?
Well it looks like questions for Google Voice are in threads all over the place so I guess I'll start another one here. Here goes. I'm setting up my GV account and plan on selecting a GV number. Now will people calling me on my new number see any difference billing-wise compared to my current cell number? I know this doesn't really apply to cell phones but what about someone calling from a land line? The GV number I am selecting will be based out of the city I live in. Will that equate to the city or area of my current cell number?
I use Google Voice (love it) primarily because of it's visual voicemail on my Droid. I do have a Google Voice number, and I'm trying to decide whether to set the Droid app to "make calls using Google Voice" or not.
I have no problem with giving out a different number, and my placed calls seeing the GV number in caller ID.
My question is, does this affect how the call is actually connected, from a quality standpoint? I tired a call both ways, and the sound quality seemed a little bit different. But then, I am an obsessive compulsive weirdo.
Is there any difference in call quality or routing between making a native Verizon call and a Google Voice call on Droid? (Like, does Google voice actual use 3G to connect to Google server over the internetz, then place the phone call?)
Just got my desire yesterday and i'm wondering how to use google voice call? cus there's nothing in the manual i held the search button and said "call home" but it brings up the browser can someone give me a step by step guide on how to use this feature this is my first smartphone so go easy.
I use google voice to send all my calls on my cliq xt but I was wondering if there is a way to have people call my google voice number and not have it count towards my minutes. Also is there a way to have the sms be integrated with the built in android sms app or have the voice app constantly be open?
Why am I posting a GV question in the EVO forum? Because I don't know if this 'problem' is a GV thing or an EVO+Sense thing. So here goes. My GV account is set up with call filtering. That is where, when you answer the phone, an automated voice tells you who is calling and asks if you want to send to voicemail or answer, etc. It does this for every call. The annoying part is.
Didn't know if anyone had a similar problem or a fix. Google voice is working fine, but after installing doubletwist, about 80% of the time after I hang up a call, Doubletwist will launch automatically and play a random song. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Doubletwist, but no change.
Any ideas other than uninstall and leave off Doubletwist?
I have had Google voice for a while now. And yesterday I added a line into my plan and got the Droid. I downloaded Google voice app and everytime I try to place a call it tells me I am unable to make the call. I did set my new number as the phone being used. Any suggestions? Or is there something up with Google voice?
I remember last year that Sprint was going to announce free call forwarding for google voice. is this true? Any updated info? I've never followed up on that news but now that I have the Evo, I want to take advantage of the Google Voice App.
I don't like the sense screen that comes up when you make calls, and I have google voice installed. How do I make sure that the google voice screen, pictured below, sticks instead of having it switch to the sense call screen. Also, can I theme the google voice app? I'm not a fan of the colors.
I use the Google Voice (GV) click to call (click-to-call / ctt) feature quite a bit. When it rings my phone, my OWN google voice number shows up in my phone's call log. Does anybody know if it is possible, or how, to get the click-to-call initiated calls to show up as the person that I was calling in my phone's call log?
I can't make calls using google voice. What happens is I will dial a number and press send, then something will pop up asking me if I want to make the call with GV or without GV. I choose WITH GV and it will start out okay, but after 5 seconds it goes back to the normal call screen and calls regularly with out GV. Is there anyone who can help me out with this? I have a droid eris.
For me, it appears so, sucks because latest Google Voice is great and the sole reason I want to go back to 1.5 (and then maybe the root 2.1 etcs)Confirmed for me, calls now show google voice number in latest google voice app! (as displayed in long list of fixes/improvements.) I definitely encourage any old Leak V2 users to upgrade that want the latest Google Voice!
Does anyone know why Google Voice requires an area code to call? I understand that the number it dials from could be from anywhere, so it may need an area code to complete the call, but how about an option to dial a default area code when the person does not enter one?
I just checked my battery and my awake time is 1:00 hr while my voice calls under battery usage show 1h 41 min.I am just asking to better understand the Android OS the time for my voice calls seems to be on par but how does it show that the phone was only awake for 1 hr?Should the awake time not be the same or greater depends on what I did while the phone is not "sleeping"? I am just a little confused by this...could someone pls explain?
I was wondering if anyone has been using Google Talk exclusively for SMS and ditched their texting w Verizon all together. I mainly ask as I am curious how reliable it is as a replacement for SMS. I'd love to cut my phone bill by $20 a month. My friend (5-6 months ago) said he was having issues w Gtalk in regards to some msgs not sending, or he never actually received them to his phone. He had issues with his N1 on Tmobile. Is anyone still experiencing similar problems? My SMS MUST function and be completely reliable as I use it constantly to communicate with my managers.
I want to get rid of Google Voice. I uninstalled Google Voice and chose MY CARRIER to be my Voicemail but it keeps on going back to Google Voice when I call Voicemail. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?
Searched for this but didn't find anything. I have my GV voicemail set up to go directly to my voicemail box (no pin) when dialing voicemail from my phone. I have everything configured correctly on the GV site and on my phone (dialed the *71GVNumber). When I call my voicemail it just rings and I have to press * to get to the PIN prompt. Is there something different about the Incredible that this doesn't work correctly? I had this correctly setup on my Storm2.
is there anyway to change the nav voice? I did some searching and people with the regular droid said that you go to settings -> text to Ipeech and can change it there (i changed it to british eng) but I did that and the nav voice is still regular english? Can anyone else try this and confirm if it works or not?
First android phone and am trying to use google voice for as much as I can, working decent so far, but several issues have come up, if anyone can address them.
1) Anytime Google voice is open, SMS notifications occurr basically instantaneously. Sometimes when it is not the open app, notifications for messages do not appear for up to 30 minutes (you can tell from the timestamps). I do not see any options about syncing frequency in the google voice app. Is there any way to rectify this?
2) SMS notification sounds. I can't find any way to make custom tones for each contact. The typical solution I've read is to use a custom SMS app, but can't do this with voice. Any workarounds?
3) Are there any 3rd party apps that handle any aspects of google voice SMS or customization? Some searches found nothing.Overall I'm pretty happy with using voice as my SMS, just want to make it as good as I possibly can.
