I have a rooted Samung Infuse with AT&T and am currently running ZEUS with few problems. I love this ROM but I am going to switch up and flash a newer ROM within the next few days. However, (back in January) before I got ZEUS, I went from the Stock ROM to MIUI and I used Titanium Backup to transfer all of my data. When I backed up contacts in the Stock ROM through Titanium and tried to restore them once I had MIUI, I kept getting force close messages that made the phone unusable because they were so frequent. I isolated the problem to be related with contacts and just deleted my saved contacts. The problem went away, but I ended up switching to ZEUS later, now with no contacts.
Anyway, I don't know if that was a random occurrence that happened only to me in my flashing process, but to avoid anything like that again, I'd like to be able to backup my contacts to Google. I've seen it mentioned several times here and on Google's site, but never did I find a how to or any sort of procedure. How to backup my contacts to Google?
Aren't all of our contacts supposed to automatically be getting backed up into our GMail account that is associated with the phone? I was under the impression this was automatic, but none of mine show under my Gmail contact list. How do you get them to sync?
for some reason, i have duplicate numbers. For example, on my contacts, my friend Sam will have 2 identical mobile numbers. i have no idea why, so i was thinking on backing up all my contacts, and syncing specific numbers again (if thats even possible). does anyone have any tips for me?
I feel like this is such a stupid question but I can't find the answer anywhere else. How do I go about backing up my contacts prior to installing, e.g., the new ROM upgrade on the Hero? Presumably I would need to get the data actually off the phone on to my computer but I can't figure out how to, and I have too many contacts to save them all individually to my SIM card. I have been having major problems with HTC Sync (as long as it's installed on my computer it seems to knock out my wireless internet connection intermittently, which makes no sense, but I've uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times and it's definitely HTC Sync doing it) so if there's a method that doesn't involve HTC Sync?
Well this weekend I took the plunge after months of reading (trying to get smarter) & rooted my Ally with Universal Androot 1.6.2, (worked flawlessly), then installed ClockworkMod w/Rom Manager v22.214.171.124 (had some issues at 1st) Had the damnedest time Rebooting into Recovery, even manually(send/menu/end). The app acted like it was doing what I told it to till it got to rebooting. the triangle with the android would pop up for about 1 second then it was blank followed quickly by the LG logo where it would bootup like nothing had been done. I got this same result when "Reboot into Recovery","Install ROM from SD Card","Fix permissions","Backup current ROM". But being the bullheaded soul that I am I just keep pushing & occasionally things would happen. I finally got to do a Nandroid Backup. Then I got brave and flashed my 1st ROM, Raptor v0.1. Again with the persistence & slowly success. However things seemed slow. So I got brave once more and flashed the Velocity 0.2-aloha. I will go back to Raptor to try it out but for now Velocity is doing better for me. Both of these flashed using "Install ROM from SD Card" option with zipfiles. Now things started working better Having less problems with CWM, however the "Download ROM" still doesn't seem to work, (error occurred while processing the ROM list). If you're still with me, just tried to answer anticipated questions from all of you, I'll get to my questions; 1. Is there a way to backup my text messages & complete contacts info including pics that I've added to each contact, so that I can transfer these things when I tryout a new ROM? 2. Any suggestions on a good Apps2SD app?. Any info on RageXicity screenshot on the Raptor release thread about what clock app that is, what dock that is, & where did that wallpaper come from??? I liked the layout but don't know where to get it.
Wouldn't the best thing to do when you enter and store a new number would be to just create the contact under your google gmail? that way theres always a copy of all your contacts online? I'm fairly new to the desire so an I missing something, why would anyone want to save to the phone or sim as provided in the options when you save a new contact. what would be the best way to backup your contact if you saved it via sim or phone?
I'm not sure if this has been addressed but it's something I figured out on my own and thought I'd share with the rest of the interwebs. For gmail to access all your old contacts its a quick process (once this is done all your contacts will be in your gmail account which automatically updates anytime a new contact is made on the computer or your phone so you only have to do this once)
Go to CONTACTS>make sure all contacts is selected at the top>MENU>MORE>IMPORT/EXPORT>EXPORT CONTACTS TO SD CARD>wait for this to finish>IMPORT CONTACTS FROM SD CARD>>>THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART>>>SELECT YOUR GMAIL ACCOUNT
This import takes a couple of minutes, but once its done, ALL of your contacts on your phone will be synced with gmail and like i said before, from this point on, all newly added contacts are automatically put in the gmail account by your phone.
I've been playing with other ROMs lately, and I'm having problems restoring my contacts on non-sense roms. Only a fraction of my contacts are 'google' contacts - a lot are backed up through verizon or are stored on the phone. How can I make all my contacts 'google' contacts, so that when I boot up in a non-sense rom, I can get all my contacts back simply by linking my phone with google?
I am doing a factory reset 2 which deletes everything including the SD card. My question is which information is in the google cloud and what do I need to save and the best way to do that? I basically only want to keep all my contacts and photos.
'Sync' is switched on on my phone so I don't know why I need to manually upload my phone contacts from my SD card then attach them & email them to my google account.I just tried to attach phone contacts from SD card to a Gmail to send to my gmail account then log into my PC & import that file into my gmail account from there, but it will only let me attach photos So I tried emailing as an attachment from phone using my yahoo account. That does allow me to attach contacts but it sits there without actually attaching them !I just found I need to tick all contacts to get to attach. So I have to check 200 ticks as there's no check all option !So one by one I tick all & gets sent as 200 attachments in an email. So then download to PC hard drive. Then in Gmail import contacts I have to browse for vCard files. However I can't select all so have to manually browse for each vCard file then import one at a time. There's no option in contacts to select a contact then 'Star in android'.I presume if somethings starred in Android then the sync between phone contacts & gmail should work properly. Even then if you add new contact to phone there's no option in the phone to star it. Code...
I want to backup my apps and do a factory reset, but I did this one time with my orginal Droid and the apps restored, but they never showed up in the Market as downloaded and I never got updates for them Is there any way around this?
I've backed up my contacts and phone numbers and all that stuff in like 5 different ways BUT is there a way to back up the pictures I've saved for each of my contacts? If not, does anyone know where the folder is located that saves those thumbnails so i can just copy it to my computer?
On a stock Android system, it is possible to disable sync for Google Contacts, Calendar, etc. Under Sense UI on the Incredible, there is no way to uncheck "contacts" under "Accounts & Sync" that I find. I have disabled the entire Background Sync, but of course that disables the Market. Is there a way to disable Google contacts sync that anyone has found?
So back when I first got my phone I was putting in contacts the dumb way selecting "phone contact" rather than putting them in under my google account. I also have a bunch of contacts recovered from backup assistant. Since I am constantly flashing new roms it has come to my attention that there isn't always Verizon Back up Assistant support on them. Take for example CM6-RC3, I love the rom, totally and completely....except when I try and run Back Up, it says it isn't compatible with the program and recommends uninstall. So my specific inquiry to all the great rooted Dinc users out there is, is there an easy way to turn all those annoying "phone"/old non google contacts into google contacts without doing each one individually on my computer/phone?
I've saved some contacts (from a text message and the other from a phone call), and linked them to my Google account. They'll stay for a day or two, then the contact will just disappear (not in phone or Gmail online). I've tried re-saving numerous times, same result. Then I decided to just enter them in my contacts in Gmail, and it worked for only one.
I've finally fixed my contact to where they are all showing up on Google contacts. The weird thing is, the contacts who were Favorites (family, etc.) aren't showing up So I entered them manually in Google, synced my phone, but they still aren't showing up on my phone.
All of my Gmail contacts are not syncing to my phone. I have tried to manually sync over and over and it is not working. I am looking at my Gmail contacts online and comparing to my phone and there are at least 3 with phone numbers missing from my phone.
For some reason my Google contacts are syncing all the time. Every time I check when they synced last its always 3 minutes prior to my check time. It really seems like it is killing battery life, is there a way to set it to only sync once a day or something?
My wife upgraded from her Eris to the Incredible. She couldn't remember her gmail password, so we couldn't just transfer her contacts. I opened a new gmail account for her, then activated her phone on my number. I tried to sync her Eris with google, with the idea that she could sync with her Incredible. Unfortunately, the contacts won't sync.
