I'm using a tmobile g2 and have rooted it too use the modaco Rom, I'm planning to update with the tmobile Rom when they release it and was wondering if this would remove the root and reinstate my warranty.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI wanted to open this thread for everyone who accidentally downloaded and installed the OTA update but wants to Root there hero. I was one of those unfortunate individuals. I will be periodically checking numerous websites for fixes on this problem. I would like anyone who has any information on this fix to let it be known becuase I have found alot of people in my same shoes. Hopefully This can be really helpful to some people.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have seen rumors that the offical 2.1 update will disable the ability to root. I have a rooted Hero running Fresh 2.0d (about to update to 2.1.1 or Toast) however my wife has a stock Hero. She is not a major geek so I have not roooted her phone yet, however I plan on doing it soon. I was going to wait til the offical 2.1 came out to see if she liked it and if she didn't I would root her phone.
Will the offical 2.1 make it so I can not root her phone? If so, I need to root her phone before Sprint pushes this out OTA.
Sprint just tweeted about a new update for Hero. It would come up under "HTC software" section of system updates. Doesn't seem like it does much at all, but reports are that it will kill root.

View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know if the upcoming Android 2.1 update to the Sprint Hero will allow us to save apps to the SD card without having to root the phone? And also, some things to think about: remember that the Hero only runs class 2 speeds, even if the card is class 6. Do you think this will change once we receive Android 2.1? Because if not, I would imagine that the phone would be slow opening apps (assuming apps to SD will be available).I know that if they do program the Hero to allow class 6 speeds, and allow apps to SD (without root) then the Hero could run MUCH faster than it does now.

I got my HTC Hero yesterday. I want to upgrade to 2.1 But apparently it's not out yet, i also think it should help to run the new 3D Games.I'm getting a 8GB Card later on today and want to know how to ROOT my HTC Hero, if i need to to install 2.1.I heard this is the best ROM in this video.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOkay so i did the the unrevoked method of rooting my htc hero and it worked fine for a couple months however one morning my phone reset it self and the superuser permissions icon in the apps tray was gone. I tried running through the steps to root it again (How to root your CDMA HTC HERO running Android 2.1 (Windows) | MacHackPC) but the superuser icon never came back. I'm not sure what to do, I even tried pressing the on button and the home to select flash from recovery and that didn't work either. any idea how i can get my phone re-rooted?

I've seen some videos and shots of rooted Android devices and some of the customization looks pretty damn awesome, but I was wondering what, in a nutshell, the upsides and downsides of rooting are (e.g will it void my warranty?).

Downgrading process may not be necessary on some models of GSM Hero. I have designed this guide for some one with extremely limited computer knowledge. Note. Windows 7 did give me some trouble so you may want to use Windows XP. I had to sue an XP machine to downgrade.

I have an HTC Hero with cupcake (v1.5) software. The phone is currently unrooted. I am trying to root my phone but find it very difficult to get hold of the software. Maybe there's not much it can do that I am expecting, but I won't know what its all about until I do it and get familiar with it. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm the proud owner of an unlocked orange uk hero running on t mobile Austria network. I have heard that the newer heroes cant be unlocked because orange have made a deal with htc and changed the codes. I must have been lucky because mine unlocked no problem with the code received from the impel number. My question is if i update the Rom with the orange Rom version on the htc homepage will my phone become Sim locked again, and more worrying will i not be able to unlock it again when it has the new Rom on it?

1)Download it.
2)Save it to your SD Card ROOT (not in any folders)
3)Open up a file manager on your phone (Download ASTRO File Manager from the marketplace..if you don't have a file manager..)
4)Find the 'InstantRoot.apk' file.
5)Run it.
6)It will say it's been successful
Ok, so on step 4, I am opening ASTRO, clicking InstantRoot, clicking Open App Manager (other displayed option is Browse file), clicking Install (then Install again). It then displays 'Application installed'. However, I get a notification stating 'Install Root failed / Root access was not acquired'. What am I doing wrong? More info if required Firmware = 1.5

View 6 Replies View RelatedToday while sitting in class I got a msg on my htc hero saying eclair 2.1 is available to download and install and that it is recommended to do this ota update over a wifi connection....
So what did i do, I obviously waited till i got home and hoped on my wifi with my hero and waited for this message to pop up again..but no msg came
Im currently still running 1.5 and its not rooted yet(dont want to root it)
I also did some research and it said on the htc website that i have to wait another 7 days for this message to pop back up, and to manually check for an update u need to go to settings>about phone>check for update............but i dont have that option anywhere? ive gone through all of my settings and there is no option to check..
I recently rooted my phone and was wondering how to install custom themes and lock screens for my hero. I am new to this as the title implies, so a link/instructions on how to install/create these would be what I'm looking for. I also am looking for solutions that do not need to install a new ROM as I just want to mod the current one that I have since i haven't found one I like.
