After reading through the threads I see that a few people have lost their contacts when the phone has rebooted or upgraded etc. So I would like to back them up. When I look in people-menu-view it shows that all my contacts are saved to my phone. They where saved to my Sim when I put it in so it must have done this by itself. What is the best way to back them up? In the import/export option I can export to SD card but I am a bit worried about pressing that encase its the wrong thing and I loose it all.
When I switched to the Samsung Fascinate from a previous non-smart phone, I transferred all of my contacts from the phone over. I think in the setup somewhere I chose to convert my contacts to Google contacts. That was really confusing at first, because I didn't know what it did, and didn't even remember I had done that until recently. I'd like to get the contacts back to phone contacts (not Google contacts) for multiple reasons, which I won't bother listing for now. So, does anyone know how to UN-convert or re-convert Google contacts back into phone contacts? I really don't want to have to recreate all of the phone contacts, because I've got a LOT of them. I would remove my Google account from the phone, but I worry that would remove all of my contacts completely, which wouldn't help me.
Im just wondering, I just got my hero not long ago from a person i know that has had it for a few weeks.Im looking at Upgrading my ROM software as from what I can tell I do not currently have the most updated software for my phone.Doing some reading on the HTC Website it said it will erase all user data, so im assuming that means contacts and stuff.Am I able to back up my Contacts myself ?
For some reason, only half of my 200 and something contacts would sync to google contacts, despite them all being Google contacts. I tried forcing sync and everything, no go.I am looking for a program that will only backup my contacts , dont need anything else. This is because im thinking of a factory wipe & installing custom roms, so a android backup wont do any good for me.Is there anything free available?
I am about to do the upgrade to 2.1 Eclair from a stock 1.5. I want to back up my contacts and my text messages and be able to restore them. Some of my contacts are associated to phone instead of Gmail. I dont know how that happened or what I can do to associate them to Gmail. Ideally I would like to perform a back up for personal use instead of on google, and restore when ever I need it. - How can I convert existing contacts from phone to Gmail status. - How can I perform a back up and restore, independent of Gmail syncing. - I used a back up tool to send my text messages as mail to Gmail. I am ok with that but would ideally want to restore the messages back to my phone too. Is it possible.
After loosing most of my contacts this is what I had to do - tedious! Find my old phone - copy the contacts to my desire sim - put the sim back in desire - sync with googlemail - adapt EVERY name because they changed to surname 1st - then delete some of the duplicated numbers - save - sync back to phone? Now i have done this do I need to Import to SD - Import from SD - Export to SD - or do nothing, I dont want to end up with bloody duplicates/lost numbers again.
Not sure if we have an official list of known issues but there are a few annoying little bugs I've found when using the Desire: -
In the People app:- You can choose which contacts you want displayed in your main contacts list, you can select from phone, facebook etc by ticking the boxes but after a day the phone always reverts back to displaying just the phone contacts. They're still linked to their facebook accounts so it's not a problem but still a bug.
Once you have a phone and facebook account linked you can choose the display name to be the entry in the phone contact or their facebook name. Again, after a day or so the phone forgets your preference.
If someone updates their facebook profile pic this doesn't filter into the People app. the only way to fix this at the moment is to delete your facebook account from the phone then set it up again. the phone still remembers the linked accounts though when you do this.
In the Browser:- The phone always forgets your preference for having your bookmarks listed in any other order other than newest first.
When I go to sync my contacts with my Gmail account my phone only registers only half my contacts. Here is what it is doing it shows some as google contacts on my phone and the remaining ones it shows them listed as phone. I cannot figure out how to fix this.
I have searched around on this and other forums, looking for the answer to a question that has been bugging me since before the weekend.I got the HTC desire on friday (love the phone!) and have got to the point where most of the things are set up how I want. I have used HTC sync to import my contacts from Outlook where they were already set up how I wanted. However I can't seem to be able to import these contacts back up to my Google account though. I have turned on all the sync settings and checked these, but nothing seems to work.I tried creating a dummy contact in my google account and prompted a sync from my phone which pulled this down ok. So this would indicate that the sync seems to work one way, but wont pull my contacts back up the other.I don't really want to re-enter all my contacts into my Google account to get the sync working properly plus I am assuming this will create a duplicate of every contact already on my phone.
I've recently (today, earlier & just now) added a few Google contacts to my phone. They don't appear in my contacts on my GoogleMail web page. I've manually synced them on the phone and refreshed the web page to no avail.I created one much earlier on (maybe even yesterday) and it's there. If I create a new contact on the web it appears almost immediately on the phone.
My earlier phone saved the sim contacts in a really bad way, long story short - when I search them on my new android phone [htc hero], they are all messed up.. I want to download them to my computer, edit them, and upload them back to the phone, how can I do that?
Reminder: not talking about google contacts or anything like that, i'm talking about contacts that are saved on my SIM card.
This is my first post although I have been reading this forum for awhile. I just went from a Moment (too big and bulky) to the Hero.
After searching and reading Im coming to the sad realization that the Bluetooth does not function correctly on the Hero? I just wanted to do a simple transfer of the contacts from my Instinct to the Hero? I dont want to use Google or any other email. Im surprised because there was no problem transferring my contacts from the Instinct to the Moment using Bluetooth. Both the Moment and the Hero have the same Android operating system so why is this happening?
I wanted to share that with you, because I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this problem. The trouble was that the back of my HTC Hero (white version) was creaking when it was pressed. That applies mostly to the area around the volume rocker. Obviously, the back cover is made from flexible plastic and it is not making very good contact with the phone itself - i.e. there is a slight distance between the back cover and the device. So what I did is to put some tape (regular transparent tape) on the back near the volume rocker opening at the hollow (which is supposed to be a space for the battery but it's leaving way too much empty space) and everything worked like a charm. I played with my phone for a week purposely seeking for the creaking sound but the method surprisingly gave very good results .
When the 2.1 update does come out, if I decide that I want to check it out and revert back to the stock 1.5, is that what nandroid is? All I would have to do is reboot, pick the nandroid file and go back to 1.5? Also, if I do revert back to 1.5 will the phone be unrooted as well? Forgive me if these questions seem nooby like but to this forum, I am a bit of a noob. If you don't ask you don't know.
I want to activate my hero again but it's rooted so I can't take it into the store to have it activated.I want to put my phone back to the original factory settings but every time I try to sync it with HTC Sync it just keeps resetting itself. I tried downloading a copy of HTC Sync and I have even installed it from my phones SD card (I backed it up before I rooted). Every time I plug the phone into my computer then hit the HTC Sync under notifications the phone keeps rebooting and HTC Sync doesn't even recognize it (my computer does though) I am using a netbook running Windows XP.
I have a question, for the apps we can download them again, but I backed up my people phone contacts to my SD card using Astro, how do I restore those contacts and my pictures once I do the upgrade, and is there a better program to back up the contacts from the phone to the PC, then send them back from the PC back onto the phone, would feel better having 2 different backups in case one does not work, can't hurt,
my brother has a motorola droid and he bought a app called Robo Defense. I was wondering if I could back up his app and move it over to my sprint htc hero. my brothers motorola droid is NOT ROOTED (but he wants to) and i am rooted and running fresh 2.1.2 by the way. tried to go to the motorola droid forum part and search but they dont have devs like flipz to create programs that make rooting, pulling, and pushing files so easy. thank you flipz
