HTC Eris :: Installing And Rooting 2.2 ?

Jul 18, 2010

I have been searching much of the day and while I've found several threads about 2.2 roms and rooting I have not found a tutorial or guide for rooting an Eris with 2.1 on it or for installing a 2.2 rom such as kaosfroyo. Can someone point me in the right direction?

My wife currently has and Eris with the OTA 2.1 upgrade and we would like to see if a 2.2 version would make it run better.

HTC EVO 4G :: Rooting And Installing Rom Best Option?

Jun 9, 2010

I really do love my Evo, but my only gripe is HTC Sense. I feel like it makes my phone extremely laggy. When I browse through my contacts, or text messages it feels extremely laggy. I am telling myself that the Froyo port will hopefully fix this annoyance for me. If not, is rooting and installing a custom rom my best option? Are their any roms out that support all the features of the Evo like front facing camera, voice to text, and all that other good stuff?

HTC Incredible :: Rooting Without Installing A Rom

I'm tired of waiting for the wifi hotspot feature in froyo. My question is can I just root my phone and use one of the wifi tether apps or do I have to install one of the ROM's. I really can't risk downtime on my phone, so I'm a little scarred of loading a ROM.

Theres not much I'm missing from stock android but wi-fi tethering would be really nice. Plus I would like to still be able to receive OTA updates that google offers. Can you root the phone and keep the stock ROM? If yes will the stock ROM still update? Is there a wi-fi tether app that doesn't require something like Cyanogen?

To install Android 2.2 Froyo on your HTC Desire, you can either use the official OTA update or a custom Froyo ROM.

Rename it to update.zip and copy it to your SD card via USB.

Motorola Droid X :: Rooting - Installing ROM?

Oct 31, 2010

I finally decided to take the challenges of rooting my phone and so far I have more than happy with the decision. I am having a few problems where I would like your help.

Just FYI: I downloaded the 928BG theme/ROM

1) Now when I connect my phone to computer via USB, it only lets me connect vias the Charge mode...I can't access the USB storage or windows media sync or PC modes...

2) I have weather bug elite pre-installed on my phone and it gives me the current temp in black font in the taskbar. Since I downloaded the new theme, the taskbar is now black and I can't see the weather updates. I tried to switch the weather bug font to white, however when I do, the app fails to load.

3) I downloaded Titanium backup and have tried to remove some of the bloatware. I have been successful with many of the apps, however I can't remove kindle at all. If I delete the app, it still shows in application drawer.

4) I installed the Free version of ROM manager app. My question is do I have to pay for the full version to install the other ROMS such as APEX or can I install those ROMS any other ways.

HTC Incredible :: Installing Custom Roms / Rooting

Sep 27, 2010

I have been using the INC for about 2 months now and i really do like the phone. As all of you know, the battery sucks. I picked up the 1500 battery about the same time the 2.2 came out and the battery life dropped over the 2.1/stocker. I thought it may have been the battery so i used the stock 1300 for a while and it was TERRIBLE. To add to the issue, the battery takes longer to charge then it does die. And thats why i am posting this. Could someone give me a list of what i need to do while rooting my phone and installing custom roms? that will speed up charge time? Normally i wont ask for help like this but i have zero time to sit down and read about everything. Just looking for a simple fix to get me by for the next few months.

Motorola Droid :: Rooting And Installing BusyBox With Mac?

Mar 26, 2010

I've been reading some info about rooting a droid here and at rootyourdroid.info, probably going to buy one this afternoon since the incredible isn't out yet. Rooting seems to be pretty universal between PC/Mac, but when it gets to the USB debugging/Busybox install it appears a PC is required. Anyone know if this can be done from a Mac or a Linux box? I don't currently have a Windows computer anywhere in the house, and don't really want to use my work laptop for this if I don't have to.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Problem After Rooting - Installing ROM

Nov 9, 2010

So I was able to get my phone rooted just fine with the super one click method. The problem I ran into though was installing a new ROM - going through the initial set up I was not able to see any any of the text that I was typing. Trying to set up my Google account was impossible because the email field just stayed blank no matter how many times I would press a letter.

Now I had this same problem months ago when I tried rooting before, and just like this time I did try installing the ROM a couple of times. However, after it not working I gave up and installed the Sprint Stock RUU.

Aug 30, 2012

I have had my Galaxy S II for about a year now, and i am thinking about rooting it and installing Cyanogenmod on it, but i need some info about the proccess: First of all: What happens when you root your phone? Is you data/apps deleted or is it safe?

Second: What about when i flash Cyanogenmod? Is my data/apps safe there or do i need to redownload the apps and backup my stuff?

Third: If i root my phone and do not flash a new ROM, will it be just as hard for me to update the firmware as on a jailbroken iOS device?

And lastly: I have heard about Titanium Backup, what does it backup? The OS, the apps and/or the data? These are the questions i need answered before starting the rooting process.

General :: Rooting And Installing Rom Huawei Y300?

May 14, 2014

I received an Y300 as a gift, haven't yet received it but I want to prepare the necessary things to root it and install custom roms on it. No, this isn't the first phone I install a custom rom to, as I have already played with an Optimus L5 of a friend.

a) How do I root the phone and install CWM or other recovery? I have found many tutorials but they are confusing, and require waiting for 2-3 days for the code to unlock the bootloader. In case you need to know, it probably is the normal Y300, the international one, so no Asian Model

b) How many ROMS are there for this phone? I like Cyanogenmod and stock roms the most, I can barely stand the stock rom in the phone, so I would like to install a new ROM on it ASAP.

c) By flashing the new ROM, do I lose IMEI or something like that (EFS Folder in Samsung phones)? If so, how can I back it up?

I have been messing around with rooting and installing custom roms then going stock messing with settings then going to another to see how I like it. In the past, after I flashed a stock .sbf file I would be prompted for the Froyo OTA update. I just did it again last night. I was wondering, can you flash your phone too many times where you start to cause problems? And, does Verizon keep a check on how many times you've downloaded an update? Or, is it just not popping up because FRG22D is out?

Motorola Droid X :: Re-installing Leaked 2.2 After Reverting Back To 2.1 And Rooting

Reverting worked fine.I rooted 2.1 using Universal Androot.I installed the following apps: Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, DroidXBootstrap,I did a nandroid backup using Bootstrap.Based on the reports I read today of the OTA 2.2, I decided to re-install the leaked 2.2 Using Root Explorer, I moved su from Bin to Xbin directory in order to preserve root status.I connected the Droid X to my laptop and copied Update.zip to the SDCard. Note that my SD card if almost full - only 25MB left after copying update.zip.I then booted, cleared cache and proceeded to run the update.

KitKat 4.4 :: Nexus 7 - Back Up Device Before Rooting Or Installing Custom ROM?

May 7, 2014

I want to install Cyanogenmod and root my Nexus 7 2013, but I don't know what I should do to backup.

I previously tried to root and install CM on my Motorola Atrix HD on AT&T and successfully rooted it, unlocked the bootloader, and installed Clockwork Mod. I made sure to click backup and proceeded to delete the version of Android on the device and install Cyanogenmod. Cyanogenmod did not successfully install and I wanted to restore my device back to it the backup I made. It said that it did it successfully, but the device gets stuck on the AT&T logo when booting up and doesn't go past that.

I don't want to have to go through the same trouble with my Nexus 7 not being able to restore back to a backup in case something goes wrong. I'm using the Nexus Root Toolkit on my PC and will probably use the Cyanogenmod installer for installing CM11 (if there are any drawbacks to using the installer). What should I use to backup my device and how would I restore it back to stock if something goes wrong? And if I have a bricked device, how can I flash it back to stock?

HTC Eris :: Rooting Eris For Wireless Tethering

Oct 14, 2010

I tried wireless Tethering via Bluetooth with the PDANet App and it was an utter failure...i'd get a connection but it was up and down every 5-10 minutes...I can get a solid connection when tethering over USB with PDAnet...But that sucks as it only seems to work with the Charging cable that came with the Eris and not the HUNDREDS of other usb cables i have laying around....

So everyone said...'ROOT!' Its easy to wirelessly Tether when you 'Root!'
you can even use your phone as a hotspot...

So i thought 'Cool, i'd really like to be able to use it as a hotspot!'

I used this rooting system Universal 1 Click Eris App Apk - No PCs, No Scripts Needed, EASY

Noted i now have a new app called 'SuperUser Permission'

Downloaded 'Wireless Tether' from the App store...Set all Permissions on the phone

my Netbook detects NOTHING!

WTF am i doing wrong? It still works under pdanet...ALL i care about is using my phone as a Wireless/wifi hotspot, thats it!

HTC Eris :: Installing XtrROM ?

Nov 17, 2010

I'm trying to go from the Froyosense 37 to the xtrROM and I'm not sure I understand the directions I have been trying to follow and I don't want to mess up my phone or end up with a brick

I have repartitioned the SD card like it says to do and "thought" I did a back up of the previous SD card because I copied to my computer. I've downloaded the new xtrROM zip file and from here I am stuck.

These are the instructions which I'm sure are perfectly clear.

TO INSTALL:

1. YOU MUST HAVE A ROOTED PHONE WITH THE AMON_RA RECOVERY PARTITION (my phone is rooted - not sure about the recovery partition)
2. download the base xtrROM .zip file **did that **
3. complete NANDROID backup (not even sure how to do that)
4. copy the .zip file to the root of your sd card (can't find a file on what I saved to my computer that says "root")
5. From amon_ra recovery Wipe data/factory reset, Wipe Dalvik-cache, and Wipe SD:ext partition
6. flash the xtrROM file from sd card
7. reboot - first boot will take a while (i.e. over 10 mins - deodexed ROMs take longer on first boot)
8. complete short setup and let your accounts sync
9. you can save and run GScripts to personalize settings at any time

The only thing I've done with this phone is flash back to the stock ERIS ROM and then back to the Froyo 37 that is currently on it. I got it rooted and running that.

HTC Droid Eris :: Installing The OTA 2.1 File

May 14, 2010

Disclaimer - Try this at your own risk. I'm not liable if you brick your phone. This is a simliar process for installing updates on the Moto Droid.

NOTE: I DIDN'T LOSE ANY DATA AFTER THE UPGRADE, but some people might. I didn't have much installed/setup. My gmail and contacts synced up, my messages were still all there, but my home screens were different.

Okay, this is all coming from 1.5.

As far as I know, Leak Jumpers are out of luck. From what i've heard, V3 leak = Official OTA..(or pretty dang close)

First, download this OTA file:
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/desirec/OTA_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_2.36.605.1_1.17.605.1_rel ease_0420.79112f65.zip

Rename it to update.zip and put it on the SD card in the TOP LEVEL (root) Directory. So if your SD Card comes up as the F: drive, it will be F:update.zip
