HTC Eris :: What's Easiest Way To Root For An Experienced User?
Jul 21, 2010
have leak #3 and I got the OTA update a few days ago.I would like to go to ROOT.using EvilEris 3.0 I'm seeing all sorts of ways to do this..and looking for the simpilist fastest way.I'm familiar with the "put a file in the root of the SD card" and re-boot method. Is that the easiest way to get going? If so - what file do I need? "EvilEris3.0.zip" or "PB00IMG.zip" (and if so - do I need a "latest" one)?
I went to best buy to exchange my evo cause of some minor issues. It had the new ota update installed so I thought it was a pain in the butt to root it. So I got the new evo and I checked the software number and I have 1.32.651.6. Is it easier to update this phone to the new ota and use the simple root method over in xda or do it manually using the 1.32.651.6?
I'm looking for advice on the simplest and easiest way to root. I know theres something that wipes the phone, rolls back to 2.1 and then roots it. I just got my second eEo because my first overheats. It came with 2.2, is that an issue? What do I need to know about ROMs? I hear fresh evo is a good one. I don't mind losing all the sprint stuff as well as HTC. I prefer launcher pro so any widget loss doesn't bother me. I heard about the method to rollback 2.2, root it then whatever, but everywhere I found today from that day says that a simpler method should be out in a couple weeks. It has been a month, is there a simple point and click method yet?
Well, upon attempting to read as much as possible before taking the plunge, I've run across a few methods to accomplish the same thing. I'm currently running 2.1 OTA(stock) and wanted the most basic way to root with the least chance of bricking.
I've gone through the guides, but have also run into DroidMod's guide on flashing 2.1 with recovery.
RSD is a little intimidating to me and I'm afraid if I breathe wrong on the phone, it will become a paperweight.
Is using RSD the only/easiest way to gain root? Sorry for the redundant question, however there are a few threads on this topic and dated within a few months of one another and I'm which route to take.
Just plucked up the courage to root my Desire. And now want to have a go at installing Froyo and looking for the easiest way. I've looked at ROM Manager and was wondering if its worth getting the paid version as it says you can get all the popular ROMs downloaded to your phone. Was wondering how good this app is and if anyone has had problems with getting the ROMs.
If this has been asked I cannot find it. What is the easiest, quickest method for root right now? There seems to be a new method being developed every week. I know there are basebands available to load that will help with the signal issues. Are there fixes with root that will resolve the audio issue with Pandora?
So I finally got the 2.0 root off that the guy before me had this phone on. He rooted it with droid mod, and that seemed pretty easy to use. I'm wondering and if there is someone who has more experience with this than I what is the easiest way for me to root my stock 2.1 droid?
I'm just experimenting with Greystripe, to see how the ads look in comparison with other providers. I can't get it working, though I'm sure I've followed the instructions to the letter.
- I've setup the application and got the unique identifier. It is shown as live in my account. - I've setup a test device and entered the correct device details - I checked and double checked my code.
No ads are ever returned. The call sdk.is Ad Ready() always returns false. It's been hours now since the account was setup. I get no error messages. It all seems rather vague, with a lack of support from their end.
Just as I was starting to get comfortable that I had removed all the crap that I had added on the first day that was contributing to all the Force Close crashes, today I suffered my first complete hardware lockup. It happened after lunch when I was playing with a few apps, one or more of which may have been running in the background. No stupid apps like Venezuela or soundboards. Just fairly normal stuff like YouTube/Discovery mobile, maybe ems/fire scanner I can't remember.Played with the free 360 camera app and tried to take a reverse picture of myself.Must have hit the "search" button and that's where it froze. No combination of buttons of hold lengths would fix it. It wouldn't go to sleep and when I called it from my work phone it didn't ring or react in any way. I had to pry it apart and remove the battery, which some of you I'm sure know is no easy task in and of itself.I know that it's probably technically my fault for splurging on stupid apps on day one. I know that a factory reboot may possibly fix my problem(s). But I can't help but feel deja vu back to the days when I fell for Ubuntu and gave her all my patience.Don't get me wrong, if you check my other posts you'll see that I'm in for the long haul, and this isn't some "this sucks so I'm leaving" post. But I figured I'd post the seemingly first reported full system lockup mention and give my opinion. For now I'm not going to change anything. I'm going to see what happens next and then come back and report. Of course all discussion/suggestions/criticism is entirely welcome.
So I just rooted my x with the help of d13. I don't know much about what I can do or how to do it. What apps do you have and which are worth paying for? Any good rom's you've installed? Currently I'm running 2.2 with flyx
Ok, right now i own a Galaxy Player YP-G1, rooted it with SuperOneClick like a week ago looking for a way to make battery last for longer time. Actually i've got good results after installing SetCPU and doing some reseach about how to config it.
However i still have a problem related to the GPS radio. It keeps turning on even if i disable it in the status bar and in the device's configuration menu. I've realized this GPS thing drains battery too much and haven't found a way to force it to stay off. Always turns on by itself whatever i do.
Tried to disable autorun on all apps that used GPS localization with Gemini App Manager, still turns on...
I'd like to know if there's a rooted way to keep this off. Yesterday it turned on in the morning and even having used the music player for less than an hour the battery died extremely fast! and another days that it has stayed off battery has lasted until late night. It has to the GPS.
So I am considering using unrevoked to flash/root my droid incredible and I just had a few questions. How safe is it? Is it easy to brick during the flash process or after when its already flashed? If my phone does somehow get bricked is there any way to save it? Is it reversible? If so is it easy? And lastly how does unrevoked run? I have stock 2.2 and its fast and smooth. Would using unrevoked slow it down?
I am trying to decide about either keeping my current HTC Hero (Firmware Version 1.5) or switching to the iPHONE. On the iPHONE, I am trying to figure out if I want the new iTOUCH or the new iPHONE. The problem is, the decision is dependent on my HTC Hero.I like the Hero, but it just feels like something is "Lacking" or "Missing." But I can't explain it.I have read on these forums here and there about how people have rooted there phone and how amazing it works and is compared to the official firmware out there.I don't know much about rooting when it comes to Android. The closest thing I can think of that might be similar in nature is when I had a jailbroken iPOD TOUCH.So now I am trying to figure out, to make my current HTC Hero "Better" or check it out the way it was meant to be, do I root it, or do I officially upgrade to 2.1?If you happen to recommend rooting, I am hoping there is a simple way of doing it. If I am not mistaken, I believe there are multiple version to root to, so which one do I use and how do I go about rooting to it?
so how do i get this app to work. I just rooted with the sholes mod updater rom. I plugged my phone into the computer with the USB cord and selected mount and ran the app and hit the big green wifi icon to connect. What else do i need to do? or if anyone has got links to how to get this app to work that would be great too. Oh and also when i connect the USB cord, on the notification bar and triangle with an (!) mark shows up and talks about some debugging stuff. What is that? does that have something to do with the wifi?Rep for who ever helps me get this thing to work.
and since the app is still there I cant root because my phone things I'm still rooted and I cant remove the app because I'm not rooted After looking around I will probably need the sbf file to resolve this issue.
I have an application with 2 activities, LogonAct and MainAct. LogonAct is a logon activity which I want to force the user to go through each time they return to the application. I've set android:clearTaskOnLaunch="true" on LogonAct.
I have installed root and all was good, but i put my default gmail as the one that did not have my purchased apps so i need to factory reset. If i factory reset will my root stay or do i need to re-root?
Is there a way to edit the user dictionary native to the phone (or handcent's dictionary, if that's what I need to edit)? Somehow some erroneous words have gotten programed in, like "tje", so handcent no longer auto corrects and spells "the".
Long time blackberry user and I just traded in my tour yesterday for the Droid Eris. Let me just get this out of the way first and say WOW what an awesome phone this thing rocks the casba better than any blackberry I've ever owned.Ok now that I've got that out of the way here is my deli-ma and if this has been posted and answered before please forgive me as I did conduct a search prior to this I just couldn't find a thread that related to my scenario.Ok so I work for a huge IT company and when I was on the BB I had a rule setup with my BB desktop manager that any emails that came through with the word PAGEME in the body to forward that email to my phone as a level 1 message and cause my phone to explode in the process. (btw the PAGEME was added by our BES so that will no longer be an option for a filter) so what I was wondering is this, is there a way with this phone that I can setup a similar rule whether it is something that I have to configure on the phone itself or in say Outlook with a exchange rule. Whatever be the case I am open to anything all that matters is that we can make the phone do some god awful sound when a page comes in so that way I can at least assure that my phone will at least wake my wife up so she can kick me and wake me up . The positive thing is that the page will only be sent to me so whatever rule we'll be creating will be specific to me being the only recipient. And yes the page does come through as a email. I can change the pager address to be email@example.com thats not a problem but I'd rather leave it going to my regular email that way I get the full page instead of just the first 160 characters.
