HTC EVO 4G :: Trying To Root For Over A Week? Unrevoked & Simple Root

Aug 15, 2010

I just can't get it.Yes, I'm new to this stuff but I've read every thread and watch hrs of youtube (which may have screwed me up more).I got my new Evo last week, I'm coming off of a jailbroken Iphone (blackrain).I'm looking for wireless tether, ROM flashing is ok but I'm not going to go crazy.I'm running 2.1 (I never upgraded, because I'd thought it be easier to root). It seems I get to the end of both rooting programs and the deal get's done.Unrevoked says- The app is loaded on my phone, however is say's something crazy when I hit start in the app I wiped the system, so I can't remember what it says, but it's like fhugh something.
Simple Root-I'm able to go through all the steps of simple root, when I hit wireless tether, it tells me.NOT ROOT? and my kernals aren't right. Also, simple root is a two click program now vs the majority of vidoes that are 3/4 clicks. This can't be that hard to do.

HTC EVO 4G :: Upgrading To OTA Froyo From Unrevoked 2.1

Nov 22, 2010

I don't know a ton about Android but I rooted my wife's EVO using Unrevoked (I think the 2nd rev of Unrevoked) earlier this year. I have been having her ignore the upgrade notice that keeps popping up until now - I'd like to upgrade her to 2.2 so we can have video chat w/ Yahoo Messenger. I downloaded the update and went to install and got the Android guy w/ the Exclamation Mark triangle thing. I've read thru a bunch of posts and it seems like most people recommend either unrooting by various methods then doing OTA update, or flashing a rooted 2.2 ROM.

Most of these posts are a couple months old from when the OTA came out and I was just wondering if there was a better way to go about doing this now that I am not finding. Bascially I want to: Upgrade from rooted 2.1 to rooted, standard Sprint 2.2 without losing any data/apps. Can someone point me to a step-by-step on how to do this or possibly a video walkthrough?

HTC EVO 4G :: Unrevoked Root

Jun 24, 2010

Last night I rooted my phone using the unrevoked method and I installed fresh 0.1. I had an issue last night where my phone wouldn't see the SD card Has this issue been resolved with the newer versions of the fresh rom? How do I get this update applied so that I don't have any issues with my phone seeing my sd card? I've only had enough time to get 0.1 installed and I would like to have 0.3 up and running by tonight.

HTC EVO 4G :: Unrevoked 3 Full Root

Jul 26, 2010

Does the newest version of the Unrevoked 3 enable a full root? I am able to do such things as install the Wifi tether app, which requires root, but I'm unsure if I can flash a new ROM with the Unrevoked root, or if I need to use another root method such as "Toast's".

I know this question has been asked/answered before, but I could not find any information regarding the newest version of the Unrevoked root.

HTC EVO 4G :: Simple Root Or Unrevoked

Sep 3, 2010

There have been a few different posts dealing with this concept, but I still haven't found a solid answer..which probably means there isn't one. Anyway, I am about to root and have been reading everything I can find, and there seem to be some people that do not like the unrevoked because it does not "fully" root the phone; or does not nand unlock completely or something. I wont try to explain details because I do not know much, but bottom line is:

HTC EVO 4G :: Trying Root With The Beta 3.21 Unrevoked

Sep 12, 2010

I keep getting "failed to flash recovery image" every time I go throug the process on the Beta Test 3.21. Everyone seems to be having success.

I no that I have the bootloader installed and the phone is definetly on "charge only" mode when I try to use the program.

I know for a fact that there is no HTC Synce or anything downloaded to my computer that could hurt it because I am on a brand new computer.

What am I missing..is there something else that I need to download to my computer or phone to make it work?

HTC Incredible :: Unrevoked 3.21 Root Gone Wrong

Oct 6, 2010

I had stock froyo installed then installed Unrevoked 3.21 to root my dinc but when I ran it, it just got stuck at "Pushing Recovery..." So I soon realized that I didn't have it set to "Charge only" So I changed that then ran Unrevoked again and it proceeded very quickly. It restarted my phone once but "Charge only" WAS NOT set as the default option :/ so Unrevoked then got stuck at "Running root..." So I attempted to change it back to "Charge only" again but Unrevoked never proceeded so I exited out of Unrevoked and restarted Unrevoked after I changed the default on the dinc... However, now Unrevoked is stuck at "Pushing recovery..." again... It will not get passed that no matter what. What do I do?

HTC EVO 4G :: Ran Unrevoked On Evo - Some Root Functions Won't Work

Oct 3, 2010

I have an HTC Evo with 2.2 on it.

I installed the usb drivers and ran Unrevoked on it last night. Unrevoked ran ok on it and said 'Done' at the end. When I hold the volume down and power button, the top of the screen says: "SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF".

Since it shows "S-OFF" and unrevoked seemed to run successfully, I think I'm rooted, but I'm not really sure. I have the Superuser icon in my programs list, and I am able to run a 'root only' screenshot program.
So here's the problem. The reason I tried to root is to delete some of the bloatware from Sprint and for wireless tethering. I tried running Titanium Backup and got the following error: "Error: Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will not work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and try again".

Wireless tethering will run and I can connect to it with my laptop, but after I'm connected, I can't access any web pages. Have I downloaded the wrong wireless tethering program? (I downloaded the latest one listed at this page: wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre9.apk - android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users 2.0.5-pre9 *** EXPERIMENTAL *** - Project Hosting on Google Code).

So, am I rooted or not? Am I "partially" rooted, since the screenshot program will run? What do I need to do to get the wireless tethering to work?

HTC Incredible :: Unrevoked Root For A New Android User

Nov 4, 2010

So I am considering using unrevoked to flash/root my droid incredible and I just had a few questions. How safe is it? Is it easy to brick during the flash process or after when its already flashed? If my phone does somehow get bricked is there any way to save it? Is it reversible? If so is it easy? And lastly how does unrevoked run? I have stock 2.2 and its fast and smooth. Would using unrevoked slow it down?

HTC Desire :: Unrevoked Root Removal - Possibe

Aug 22, 2010

I recently recieved a replacement desire following an claim. Once out of the box i realised that this was vodafone branded (my original showed no branding). I was a bit pi**ed off with this so decided to have a go at rooting the thing. I used unrevoked3 and clockwork mod but due to this being 2.1 firmware found that I was unable to change the rom. I would now like to unroot my desire as it has seemingly developed a fault and repeatedly reboots, so I may have to send back. This developed some 10 days after the root so don't think this is the cause. I also did a factory reset and the problem still occurs.

HTC Incredible :: DINC - Root - Unrevoked - Rom - Overclock

Sep 25, 2010

Just wanted to drop and say thanks for all the great threads and guides here. The droid x was my first android phone and at the time "locked bootloader, efuse, etc" meant nothing to me so i got it. I do love my X and its been cool being in on the ground floor as stuff comes out, but now thats ive gotten into going beyond the standard user experience its kinda limiting.

I picked up a DINC off ebay kinda reasonably after selling my backup blackberry and a bunch of 360 games. Just came today and its been busy! thanks to the great info here, I rooted with unrevoked 3.21, s-off with unrevoked forever, and have been experimenting with different roms and kernels all day. Its been a blast.

Ive bootlooped a bunch of times but nothing a nandroid backup couldnt solve.

Until the X can offer what my new DINC does, I'm switching over to htc. Wish the screen was a tad bigger and had swype, but ill live!
