HTC EVO 4G :: Sprint Offers Free Call Forward For Google Voice?
May 24, 2010
I remember last year that Sprint was going to announce free call forwarding for google voice. is this true? Any updated info? I've never followed up on that news but now that I have the Evo, I want to take advantage of the Google Voice App.
I've been searching around the net and browsingthe APIs to find a way to forward an incoming phone call to voice mail, but with no success so far.I know it can be done since some apps do it already. I also know that blocking an incoming phone call is not possible yet and is an issue Google devs are working on.In the app i'm coding, I easily manage to detect an incoming phone call by listening to the phone state. But I cant make the phone NOT ring and NOT show the incoming phone call screen.I' ve tried to cut off the network via a ServiceState object, but that doesn't seem to work.
I use the Google Voice (GV) click to call (click-to-call / ctt) feature quite a bit. When it rings my phone, my OWN google voice number shows up in my phone's call log. Does anybody know if it is possible, or how, to get the click-to-call initiated calls to show up as the person that I was calling in my phone's call log?
I use Google Voice (love it) primarily because of it's visual voicemail on my Droid. I do have a Google Voice number, and I'm trying to decide whether to set the Droid app to "make calls using Google Voice" or not.
I have no problem with giving out a different number, and my placed calls seeing the GV number in caller ID.
My question is, does this affect how the call is actually connected, from a quality standpoint? I tired a call both ways, and the sound quality seemed a little bit different. But then, I am an obsessive compulsive weirdo.
Is there any difference in call quality or routing between making a native Verizon call and a Google Voice call on Droid? (Like, does Google voice actual use 3G to connect to Google server over the internetz, then place the phone call?)
I have google voice and I first added my google voice number onto my friends and family thinking it would give me the free minutes. I just read that I need to add my gogle voice routing number instead (which i got as 916-538-xxxx) so I went to add that but my Dad who also has google voice has the exact same routing number. So do I just add the one number as friends and family and we both get free minutes?
I finally changed the voicemail system on my Hero from Sprint's "visual voicemail" (which is misleading because it doesn't transcribe voicemails) to Google Voice. It's nice to see my transcribed voicemails now. However, when I actually want to hear them (if the transcription didn't work well), it only comes through the external speaker; the speaker on the back of the phone. I went into Google Voice settings and under "Voicemail Playback" I tried the only two options: "Play via Handset" and "Play via Speaker." Unfortunately, both play through the speaker phone speaker. How do I change it to the phone speaker? I also can't adjust the volume, so the whole world hears my voicemails through the external speaker.
I was googling for "google voice actions eclair" in the hopes that a 2.1 version was in the works, and I found out that Vlingo (normally $9.99 in the market) is now free. It does some of the same things that the Google one apparently does (no setting alarms, though, too bad).
Looks like the new GV app gives each contact an individual number when calling out. This means that instead of being able to program one outbound number to my Fam and friends list and getting free outbound calls, I am now back to paying for my minutes used on each call, reguardless if it's GV or Standard.
Is there any way to make google voice calls to an international number (from the US to South Korea) for free using the Google Voice app on my Dx? How do I make sure Google Voice is making the call and that I am not being charged international fees?
Just got my desire yesterday and i'm wondering how to use google voice call? cus there's nothing in the manual i held the search button and said "call home" but it brings up the browser can someone give me a step by step guide on how to use this feature this is my first smartphone so go easy.
Is anyone else interested in how Google voice will affect calling minutes? If you currently have your GV number set to call your Sprint cell and your incoming call is from another cell phone will you be charged for the minutes? If you setup your phone so GV is used to call all numbers that you dial will you be charged for calling other cellular number because GV masks the number? I have been through every level of support that Sprint offers and no one can answer me. Sadly tier 3 technical support told me "Google Voice is useless on a cell phone and you would not want to use this anyway". I had nothing more to say after that!
I just started using Google Voice last week and am in the process of dumping my BB Curve on my business line and using my GV number for work and having just one phone with multiple mail boxes (pretty exciting for me ) but in the demo videos I've seen they have the option to merge calls and also and this is a big one screen calls. I only get the stock screen on my DI when it comes in. How to use these features?
I use google voice to send all my calls on my cliq xt but I was wondering if there is a way to have people call my google voice number and not have it count towards my minutes. Also is there a way to have the sms be integrated with the built in android sms app or have the voice app constantly be open?
Why am I posting a GV question in the EVO forum? Because I don't know if this 'problem' is a GV thing or an EVO+Sense thing. So here goes. My GV account is set up with call filtering. That is where, when you answer the phone, an automated voice tells you who is calling and asks if you want to send to voicemail or answer, etc. It does this for every call. The annoying part is.
Didn't know if anyone had a similar problem or a fix. Google voice is working fine, but after installing doubletwist, about 80% of the time after I hang up a call, Doubletwist will launch automatically and play a random song. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Doubletwist, but no change.
Any ideas other than uninstall and leave off Doubletwist?
I have my phone set up with an All Call Block (outgoing caller ID blocked) with VZW. When I make a GV call using the Android app, it says something about the call can't be completed as dialed. Does the app not work with phones that have an All Call Block? I did call VZW to remove the block, but, since it's a corporate account, I needed a password, which I didn't have. But, I think she removed it prior to asking me for the password and GV appears to be working now. I want to see if anyone can confirm that definitely was the reason and if there are any workarounds for using the GV app and keeping my All Call Block. I can make a blocked GV call by manually dialing *67 then my GV # and using the dial out method, but that defeats the purpose of the GV app since that makes everything so easy. I guess the difference in using the GV app vs using a non-android phone is that the GV app dials a "special" number so, if I have the All Call Block, it can't see who I am I thought I recalled that if I dialed my GV number from my non-android phone with the All Call Block, it still recognized me (which is possible since the block only blocks caller ID, but the true number is still sent in the stream). So, bottom line, can I not use the GV app if I have All Call Block or is there a workaround?
Just thought I would share a little information I have found with my fellow Droid owners. This guide will allow you to (freely) forward your Yahoo! email to a newly created (or old) Gmail Account for easier integration with your Droid (or other Android Devices) without paying the $20 a month Yahoo! requires for premium service. First create your Gmail account if you do not already have one. Also I am coming from the "New Yahoo"
Step 1: Sign into Yahoo Mail
Step 2: Click options on the upper right hand corner of your screen. Select to switch to Yahoo Mail Classic
Step 3: In the top left hand corner is your name. Highlight it and select "Account Info". It will ask you to put your password in again.
Step 4: Under Account Setting click "Set language, site, time-zone."
Step:5 Click New Setting and change it to Yahoo! Asia. Also accept the new Terms of Agreement.
You should now see a Yahoo! Asia logo on your homescreen.
We can now enable POP access and Email Forwarding without the $20 a normal member would pay.
Step 6: Click options again in the top right hand corner. Then Mail Options.
Step 7: On the left of the screen select POP and Forwarding. Then Set up or edit Pop and Forwarding.
Step 8: Click the bubble next to forwarding and enter in your new gmail account. Click Save.
Step 9: Send Verification
Step 10: Go to your gmail and grab the confirmation code and go back to the Yahoo! and enter. Enter password again.
I have had Google voice for a while now. And yesterday I added a line into my plan and got the Droid. I downloaded Google voice app and everytime I try to place a call it tells me I am unable to make the call. I did set my new number as the phone being used. Any suggestions? Or is there something up with Google voice?
I don't like the sense screen that comes up when you make calls, and I have google voice installed. How do I make sure that the google voice screen, pictured below, sticks instead of having it switch to the sense call screen. Also, can I theme the google voice app? I'm not a fan of the colors.
Well it looks like questions for Google Voice are in threads all over the place so I guess I'll start another one here. Here goes. I'm setting up my GV account and plan on selecting a GV number. Now will people calling me on my new number see any difference billing-wise compared to my current cell number? I know this doesn't really apply to cell phones but what about someone calling from a land line? The GV number I am selecting will be based out of the city I live in. Will that equate to the city or area of my current cell number?
I can't make calls using google voice. What happens is I will dial a number and press send, then something will pop up asking me if I want to make the call with GV or without GV. I choose WITH GV and it will start out okay, but after 5 seconds it goes back to the normal call screen and calls regularly with out GV. Is there anyone who can help me out with this? I have a droid eris.
For me, it appears so, sucks because latest Google Voice is great and the sole reason I want to go back to 1.5 (and then maybe the root 2.1 etcs)Confirmed for me, calls now show google voice number in latest google voice app! (as displayed in long list of fixes/improvements.) I definitely encourage any old Leak V2 users to upgrade that want the latest Google Voice!
Does anyone know why Google Voice requires an area code to call? I understand that the number it dials from could be from anywhere, so it may need an area code to complete the call, but how about an option to dial a default area code when the person does not enter one?
I need a voicemail app but Google Voice is not available where I live.I tried Fusion Voicemail but did not like it and I've heard Youmail drains your battery since it does not let your phone go to sleep.
