Aug 4, 2010

So far i've only seen amber, yellow, and green. I might have seen red but i'm not sure... I've never seen it flash blue. What are the colors it can flash?

I guess the developers need to take advantage of this but I have seen it flash white, green, red and blue. (All from the same LED)

Android : Is CDATA Supposed To Be URL-encoded

Oct 17, 2010

Obviously the answer is no... right? The reason I ask is because I have this string defined in XML for an Android app:

<string name="foo">

This%20is%20a%20test

</string>

All I do to the string is read it, and display in an HTML view. I would not have expected the %20s to be interpreted, yet they are. Is this the correct behaviour, or is Android being typically buggy?

Android : TextView Supposed To Be Able To Scroll Its Contents?

Nov 10, 2009

It was my understanding that even though TextView is not a ScrollView, it has scrolling functionality built-in.

However, I'm not able to scroll the contents of a TextView (that's on 1.6). I've reduced my code to the most trivial example:

<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/ android" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical"> Code...

I then defined a really long string for testing, which I set on this text view using setText(). The text is too long for the TextView, but there is no way to scroll it. So do I need to wrap it in a ScrollView after all?

Android : Weren't There Supposed To Be 1000's Of Apps?

Nov 19, 2009

I have to say that when the Android Market tells me I can browse the "top" apps but need to use the on-phone App-finder to see it all, I am immediately Paranoid. This is precisely the Hipster-Nerd-Elite stuff that makes me go all queasy when I think of the low-hanging I-Fruit that is everything open-source is NOT. It makes a person ask, what are you hiding?

Having said this, I still expected that there would already be several large Softpedia-type sites with a google or two of applications waiting for the Android user. You know--everything that open-source is. So now I find myself looking for an alternative audio-player to find that only TuneWiki comes up more than once or twice (and with each new introduction I like the option less).

So am I looking in all the wrong places, or should I have stuck with WM if I wanted 35 choices for every type of app? Right now, I'm feeling a bit scared at least until my contract is up again.

Sprint HTC : Hero Supposed To Be A Multitasking Device?

Nov 11, 2009

Just wanted to make sure that the Hero is supposed to be a multitasking device? Because every time I try to multitasking, my phone freaks out.

For example, as I was typing this (i am typing this post on my Hero), my green LED started flashing because I got an email. So I pressed home so I could check my email (no notification drag down in browser) and phone started to just get jittery, get stuck, and just freak out and lag. All the meanwhile, the music I was listening to started to skip and stutter like crazy. That was just a simple multitasking task that went haywire (sp?) and it isn't the only time that its happened.

Like I would be browsing the Market and get a text (which lagged in that the notification ring sounds a couple of seconds after the phone vibrates) and I press home to check my sms (via chompsms because of the sms bug) and once again, my phone freaks out (not as badly as how I mentioned before, but still annoying.

Overall, I just don't think the Hero is doing a very good job at multitasking (my Hero at least). But i thought the Hero was supppsed to be a multitasking phone, no? What's the dealio?

PS: This took me FOREVER to type on the Hero because of its crazy keyboard lag when using it in the browser (even with haptic feedback off)

HTC 4G : Referb EVO Worse Then What I Am Supposed To Send Back

Aug 31, 2010

So I got my replacement evo today that I was told would be new... its not, I am not very happy about that. but besides that the referb unit is in worse shape then my release day evo. The screen is up level with the bezel and higher in some spots ,the menu soft key only lights up half way and the vibrating is about half as strong as mine. they are both hardware 3. I have not activated it and have been talking to sprint for 2 hours, waiting on a supervise to call me now. I told them if they are not going to send me a new unit at least let me send back the refurb and have somebody physically test my new refurb before send it out to me to make sure it does not have issues. They say I have to send back mine and then after they get it they can send me out a new one...ERRRR I do not want to use this refurb unit untill I can get another. I am very frustrated with sprint at this point!!!

I am now calling HTC to see what they can do for me under the warenty... Ok He gave me a number for there warranty department but they closed 50 min ago so have to wait for there morning.

It has been half an hour no word from the sprint supervise. I am done ranting now hopefully this makes sense I wrote it really fast and angry. Hope everyone else is having a great Tuesday and if you got an EPIC congrats. Let me know how it is.

HTC Droid Eris :: Soft Keys - Supposed To Light Up?

Jun 19, 2010

I'm on my 3rd Eris - replaced each one for the silent bug. This one hasn't gone silent yet, but the soft keys (home, menu, back, and search) don't light up. Major PITA when using the phone at night. When I took it back to Verizon, they said the buttons aren't supposed to light up. Now I'm second guessing myself. So, can someone with an Eris check it out on your phone and see if the buttons light up? Is there a setting for this that I'm missing? BTW - This last replacement shipped with 2.1 installed and hboot 1.49.

HTC EVO 4G :: Suspend Process - Running CPU At 50%-60% While Phone's Supposed To Be Asleep

Aug 28, 2010

I noticed a weird battery drain on my EVO over the last week or so. I've got the System Panel app, and it appears there's an internal process called "suspend" that is running the CPU at 50%-60% while the phone's supposed to be asleep.

I have the un-updated facebook app, and it doesn't have any login information anyway. The problem started occurring around the time I installed Pandora; have there been any reports of problems with that app? Alternatively, does anybody know what might be causing that process to chew CPU cycles?

I've had my Hero for over 2 weeks and just recently noticed that the top of the silver keypad area at the bottom of the phone is slightly raised from the level of the glass. I don't remember it being that way but maybe I just didn't notice it until now. For some reason I thought it was flush (even) with the glass before. When I run my finger over it and onto the glass I can tell it (the silver keyboard area) is slightly raised.

Android : Aren't Focus States Supposed To Bubble To Child Views?

Apr 19, 2010

When using a View within a View, for example an ImageView within a LinearLayout, both of which have xml drawable resources (the LinearLayout as a background) specifying PNG drawables to use for the on/off states, shouldn't children Views receive the focus state when their parent gets focus? So as far as I understand, both my LinearLayout and ImageView should be switching to their focus states right? Apparently not Or, more likely, apparently my implementation is incorrect.

The focus state works on the LinearLayout but my ImageView never receives focus.. I have both Views set to android:focusable="true".

Samsung Captivate :: OTA Update Free Supposed And Not Deducted From Actual Data Usage

Sep 23, 2010

PSA: AT&T doesn't charge you for OTA firmware updates -- Engadget Mobile. So it says that they wont charge us for downloading OTA update, but... my log says otherwise. ( the 13k kb ones are the OTA update download btw) How come it ate up my data usage? I previously had approximately 85-89mb of data usage for the month, but after attempting to download the OTA update quite a few times ( I was frustrated since it keeps telling me that update failed ), it showed up on my data usage log. Now AT&T tells me that I've used 159mb/200mb so far, and I even got a text this morning saying I've used 65% of my data usage for the month. ( I'm on the 200mb data plan ) What the heck is going on? what if there's an OTA update in the future that are three digit long. If I go over my limit, I would have to pay extra $15.00 for another 200mb of data.
