HTC EVO 4G :: How To Save Image When Viewing It Directly In Web Browser

Oct 16, 2010

If I go to AndroidForums on my phone, and I long-press on the logo, I have the option to save it.However, if I go to a direct link like and it just loads the image, how do I save it now? I long-press on the image and it doesn't do anything. I am rooted and running a custom ROM, but I don't remember being able to do this on stock.

Android :: Viewing RTF Files In Browser

Nov 15, 2010

I am working on a private website that will serve all kinds of documents: especially RTF, TIFF, JPG & PDF.This site is for mobile devices, on the iPhone it just works, serves all of those file types right out of the browser. It strips the formatting out of the RTF files but that is ok.

In android I can open an RTF file from Gmail and it opens correctly (again stripped formatting) it even says "Opening as HTML" But in the browser it serves it as plain text with all of the formatting characters.I have had to download a 3rd party tif viewer. And when I click the document button it downloads the tif file and the user has to then click to open it.This is at least semi-workable. The same goes for .pdf files, they have to be downloaded and then opened.I was there a way to tell the OS to go ahead and open file type from the browser using a set app? I have a 3rd party RTF viewer installed now but unlike the TIF and PDF, the RTF file tries to open in the browser, it just fails at decoding it.

Android :: Viewing Different Gmail Account In Browser?

Dec 20, 2009

I tried searching for this information but could not find anything about it. I am considering an Android device (one of the ones on the Rogers network in Canada - and yes I am aware of the "they're all on 1.5 with a chance that they will never be updated" issue) but have some uncertainties. From what I have read, I can use the HTC Sync app bundled with the Magic/Dream to get my Outlook (pst) contacts into a Gmail account (which is the primary repository for all PIM info in Android, right?) and then the Google Calendar sync to get my Outlook (again, pst) calendar events. Super. Completely understand that (assuming what I said was right).I've also read (repeatedly) about how you can only have one gmail account in the mail application. I can tolerate that (don't like it, but can live with it). However, if my understanding is correct, Android comes with a Mozilla HTML browser, right? If I opened that and went to would it open the primary gmail account (the one the phone is linked to) or would it prompt for user/password? Further, if it does autologin, what if I clicked the sign out link and logged in as a different user? Would the phone go "kerpluey"? To be clear, I'm not expecting Android to sync ANYTHING from this other account; just wondering if I could access (read/respond) the gmail via the web browser. (Example: we're out and my wife wants to look up something in her gmail account using my Android smartphone is that possible?)Also, I read about some people discussing the installation of a second instance of the gmail app to get multiple account support. Is that even possible on 1.5? What would it do to things like contacts?

Android :: Builtin Intent For Viewing Image?

Feb 26, 2010

Is there a built-in intent which will let you pass it the path of an image (png or jpg) and show it full-screen with panning / zooming controls? Basically the same controls WebView has, but only for a single image. I saw that iPhone has something like this, just wondering if there's already something like this on android before writing a new one.

Android :: Receiver Save - Not Able To Get IMEI Number Directly

Oct 4, 2009

I've developed an application which has a service and boot completed receiver. The boot completed receiver schedules the service to be executed after every 7 minutes. The boot completed receiver saves its context in a public static variable which is then accessed by service whenever it is scheduled by scheduler. The service first gets the IMEI number of phone and then saves it to a file if it is not already saved. Everything worked smoothly but then i logged into market place and after that the scheduled service was not able to get IMEI number directly , neither was it able to open the file which had already been created and it keeps on throwing nullpointer exception for both direct IMEI retrieval and attempt to open file.................

Android :: Save Gmail Attachments Directly To SD Card

Nov 15, 2009

I use gmail. I get attachments. I am trying to find a means to be able to save these attachments directly to SD card. For example,

jpgs/png/gif, not a problem. docs/xls/txt, I can peview, but not save them. problem is if I get a 3g2 file, I cannot preview or save the file. Sometimes I get videos from client's phones and I can nor longer view them remotely. With my winmo phone, I was able to at least detach them to the SD card. Bottom line, is there ANY way, app or otherwise, to just simply have a "download" button?

Motorola Droid :: Browser Viewing Causes Phone / OS To Lock Up

I have only had the Droid for 24 hours and I have had it reset on me about 8 times already. I really am not too sure why. Mostly its been while doing different tasks in different applications. But as of the last 3 times, it has been while I was using the Broswer. Essentially, it just completely locks up (no haptic feedback either) and either resets itself, or else I have to hold teh Shift+Alt+Del to reset it.Has anyone else had this problem?

HTC Hero : Make Text Messages Save Directly To Micro SD Card?

Apr 18, 2010

I've got a 16gb micro SD card, and other than music and some pictures i've not really got a lot on it. My internal memory has almost been used up though, and I think this has something to do with my text messages. I was wondering if there is a way to directly save them to my micro SD card, instead of the internal memory? One of my friends, who also had a Hero, had too many text messages and her message app wouldn't open and kept crashing. I don't really want this to happen to my phone.

He will put the image in the browser, because browser can load the file and show it on screen, but i want to download it without reading it.

I need that to put inside App inventor, but if it's possible to do it in HTML or other, that's ok, i think i can make app inventor run an external application.

Android :: Multipart Upload - Transmit The Image Directly From Memory

Oct 12, 2010

As part of my Android app, I'd like to upload bitmaps to be remotely stored. I have simple HTTP GET and POST communication working perfectly, but documentation on how to do a multipart POST seems to be as rare as unicorns.

Furthermore, I'd like to transmit the image directly from memory, instead of working with a file. In the example code below, I'm getting a byte array from a file to be used later on with HttpClient and MultipartEntity.

This all seems fairly clear to me, except that I can't for the life of me find out where to get this ByteArrayPartSource. I have linked to the httpclient and httpmime JAR files, but no dice. I hear that the package structure changed drastically between HttpClient 3.x and 4.x.

Is anyone using this ByteArrayPartSource in Android, and how did they import it?

After digging around in the documentation and scouring the Internet, I came up with something that fit my needs. To make a multipart request such as a form POST, the following code did the trick for me:

The HTTPMultipartMode.BROWSER_COMPATIBLE bit is very important.

Android :: ImageView AdjustViewBounds? Show Text Directly Under The Image

Oct 12, 2010

I want to scale and display images which are dynamically loaded to a certain maximum size. The way I'm doing this is to set the layout_width and layout_height of my ImageView to the maximum dimensions and setting the scaleType to "fitCenter".

But here's the problem. This is inside a RelativeLayout and I want to show text directly under the image. In portrait mode, the text is way at the bottom (because of the height I have set). So I want the ImageView to scale down to the actual visible image size which is what it would seem like adjustViewBounds="true" should do.

Am I wrong in this assumption? Or is there a better way to do what I'm trying to do? Because I've been unsuccessful to this point!
