HTC EVO 4G :: Gchat Keeps Disconnecting Using The Talk App
Jul 20, 2010
So I got my Evo replaced last Friday due to screen separation issues that led to touch screen issues. My old Evo had no issues staying connected to Gchat using the Talk app.
However, this Evo seems to keep disconnecting whenever my screen turns off, and even when i reconnect, it may take up to 15 minutes to recieve messages. I have played with some settings but nothing seems to make a difference. I know this is a know issue on a lot of Android devices, but it seems to be random. I have searched and searched, and found no solution to this issue.
Friends often use gmail chat to message me but I can't seem to find any gchat integration in the phone or a google app for it. Seems rather odd that this is missing from Android considering it's a commonly used Google service. Even the Palm Pre has gchat integration.
I'm still getting used to using gchat but how do I close/delete a gchat conversation? I mean, if I go into "settings -> close all chats" it doesn't really do anything because if I go back and tap on someone's name, the entire conversation I just had is still there. Is there anyway to delete an entire gchat conversation like you can do with text message threads/conversations?
Any news regarding whether we can video conference with a PC or Mac using our EVO? gChat? iChat? Skype? My understanding is that qik will not do this - it will only be evo-to-evo or evo-to-web, is that true?
I am using IMO for Instant Messaging and so i removed the TALK app from my Nexus one (running Oxygen Rom) using Titanium backup.Recently there was an update in TALK app and i wanted to try it (Hangouts) so i installed it from the playstore. It was very slow on my mobile so i removed it again.
Now i am getting Talk notifications (with the old TALK icon) in the notification bar. along with the IMO notifications. When i click on the Talk notifications it does not open any app. and the messages that are notified by TALK are missing in the IMO app so its very frustrating.
So i thought it must be the HANGOUTS app and re installed it from the Play Store. Now i get Hangout notification, Talk notification and IMO notification. I removed the Hangouts app from the Application Manager and i still getting the TALK notifications.
My wife just got the Samsung Epic 4g.According the map for 4g coverage I live in a solid blue area (strong coverage)The 4g connection is constantly dropping in my house.Does anyone know what this issue is or of a fix?
I am using easytether on one of my desktops at my house. Everything works great except that the connection keeps dropping. At first I thought it was because I did not have IE up (use internet connection wizard so other computer access the internet through this connection) but I noticed it still drops connection even when I was surfing with IE. Anyone else experience this? Is there a timeout issue? Should I get a keep alive program like with using a standard modem?
Problem: When I connect my phone through USB and put Mobile Broadband Connect On, my 3G connection does not work, not even on my cell. All apps requiring requiring 3G work wont' star
Here is how it happened. I was trying to use my incredible for tethering using Pdanet/Easytether on my Windows 7 Netbook. PDAnet worked in the best Lately due some reasons or HTC sync the modem drivers seem to be not found by PDanet , after many times sets of install and uninstalls of the different softwares, I got the idea to use the VZ broadband connect software to install drivers on my laptop. The drivers worked and so I did set up a a network connection (dialup like) and it seemed to connect but asking me to subscribe to VZ broadband connect.
Now when I ask my phone through USB and put Mobile Broadband on, i get a message of disconnecting mobile internet and the 3G on my cell does not work anymore.
My chat application connects to a server and information is sent/received by the user. When the connection changes, such as 3g->wifi, wifi->3g, losing a data connection, etc, the socket sometimes stays connected for ages before disconnecting. During this time, it's impossible to tell if the connection is still active, it seems as if messages are being sent just fine. Other times, when sending a message, it will throw an IO error and disconnect.
Apart from implementing code to detect connection changes and reconnecting appropriately, is it possible to have the socket immediately throw an IO exception when connectivity changes?
I'm connecting using the following code:.........
I'm not using setSoTimeout as data may not be transferred for long periods of time depending on the remote server's configuration.
With 3 different devices, an lg thrill, a nexus 7, and a Samsung infuse, over 2 different routers, a netgear and a Linksys with dd-wrt And using 3 different apps, twonkyserver mobile, Imediashare, and playto. Using any combination of above, why why why do the servers keep disconnecting after 45 minutes or so?
I've tried the keep WiFi alive apps and they dont solve the problem.
After connecting my phone by USB to PC and transfering some files to SD card and then disconnecting, i'm getting error "Application not installed" on some apps installed on SD card (for example Adobe Reader, Temple Run 2). The only way i figured out to solve this problem is restarting my phone... I don't want to restart my phone nearly every day, just because i needed to connect by USB cable to transfer some files....
Phone: Alcatel One Touch Idol 6030X, Android 4.1.1 - official, not rooted.
I have written a simple GPS status application (just for my own amusement) and was giving it a final run through when I can across a problem. When I took my phone down to the end of the garden I stopped getting location updates. When I re-connected the phone back onto the computer and examined LogCat I saw that the WiFi was disconnecting followed by libgps putting out PDSM_PD_EVENT_GPS_DONE and after that I got no more GPS updates. I then had a guess at the cause of the problem - in my Manifest I had requested the following permissions: android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION I removed android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION, re-tested and my GPS app is now working fine. I only request location updates from the GPS provider by: locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, LOCATION_UPDATE_REFRESH, LOCATION_MIN_DISTANCE, this); o does anyone know how android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION interact with each other when using the GPS? Phone is HTC Magic running 1.6 (not rooted).
Just got my Droid X and love it so far. However, I'm having an odd bluetooth issue. I paired my DX with my Jawbone Icon, and everything worked fine, at first. However, now it seems to disconnect the jawbone arbitrarily. Strangely, the blue bluetooth indicator at the top of the DX display stays lit as though it's connected, but the earpiece becomes unable to initiate or answer calls. To resurrect the earpiece I have to turn it off, wait for the bluetooth indicator to go white, and then turn my earpiece back on. At that point, it connects and works fine for a while until it happens again. I guess it's possible there's a problem with the earpiece, but it always worked fine with my iPhone 3G.
I use my laptop to go on the internet via my HTC Hero. But it doesn't seem to be very stable, I have a good connection with a H and 3 bars. But it seems to drop the connection for no reason, my previous phone a sony ericsson would just stay connected all the time, this drops it when it likes, could be 2 min, to 2 hours before i have to reconnect then disconnect then connect.
I got my Evo today, finally. I noticed when I plug in the usb cord to my computer, no matter what I set it at (charge only, mount hard drive, etc....) the computer makes the noise like i've unplugged something from the usb even though everythings still plugged in. once it does that the phone is no longer charging and I cant see the hard drive anymore until I unplug and replug it back in. then it does it again within a minute or two.
II am always having problems with pdanet and my fascinate. It works sporadically. When it does work it works great but most of the time especially at night i get usb connection dropped. It will for for a few sec then disconnect then reconnect. Is there a fix for this? Think it disconnected about 16 times trying to type this message. I could really use a fix as this is the only internet I currently have.
Lately, I have had a lot of issues with my bluetooth headphones (won't start on the countless other issues). Out of no where it will stop working; so I go into my bluetooth settings and the headset says it is still connected.... (not the issue)
The issue is when I try disconnecting then re-connecting, the message "Headset is disconnected" appears and will not go away under any circumstance. It stays there when going back to the home page, putting the phone to sleep and back on, everywhere, even when reconnected! The only way to get the message to go away is powering off the phone. I have repeated this several times with the same results 100% of the time.
We have an S3 Mega, started using it as a Wi Fi access point for a Gateway Desktop, Windows 7. After 8 hours of flawless operation , the usb starting disconnecting and then reconnecting. The check box in the settings screen for USB tethering would uncheck. If you rechecked it it would connect then disconnect and uncheck the box. We moved from a front USB port on the Gateway to a rear USB port and that fixed that problem but after overnight, no WiFi access. Rebooting the computer fixed that.
I got a problem with my T10. Whenever I'm doing something that uses WiFi, I keep getting D/C'd. Its not my router, because I have other tabs in the house which are fine. WiFi sleep policy is set to Always Keep On, and I've tried apps like WiFi Keeper and WiFi Static which don't work.
I just upgraded my firmware. And I have problem with Wi-fi.. it keeps connecting, then disconnected over and over.. its never get connected! I tried tp use Fix My Wifi apk, and Wifi Fixer but that doesn't work. GT-I8150
So after flashing Cyanogen 10.2 on my galaxy S3 (which previously had 4.2 jellybean stock rom installed) I had no service and an unknown IMEI and basband. I went into root browser and replaced the current EFS folder with one I Had backed up a couple of days ago which was 100% working fine. after a quick restart the signal bar at the top has no signal for about 30 seconds then gets signal for 10 seconds. If I go into setting and phone status during the period of signal I have network 02-uk network type-hsdpa and my phone number stays unknown and my imei is being shown correctly during both signal periods.
I cannot find a similar issue anywhere else at all and as im fairly new to all this I'm completely stuck. I have a backup of my old rom (which wont flash due to status 7 error) I 'd rather keep this rom if possible though.
I would say within 5 minutes of taking the phone off of the charger, the battery drops to 90%. I'm running stock software (2.1), ran the *228 option 2, turned off GPS tried anything simple I could find by searching.
I am struggling to connect to my home wifi network. I very occasionally can connect but there seems to be no obvious method to the madness just some black magic. Basically it sees my network it has remembered the key, the key is correct, and it says disconnected. I press connect and nothing happens at all but sometimes it will say "connecting..." then it will immediately say disconnected. I have a belkin router and my network is secured using WPA/WPA2 TKIP/AES encryption. I have tried using APNDroid to turn off my mobile internet before using wifi and that sometimes works but that seems to be more black magic than a solution.
Well after almost one month of frustration with this phone disconnecting my call while talking.because of the screen touching my face. I finally have a solution Hurray.simple when call arrives hit the power button Once. the screen will go black and lock. and you can move all over the screen with touching etc and the call continues when you are ending the call just hit the power button again and everything goes live again on the screen to conclude the call. I was to almost ready to go back to my old phone just to be able to talk on the PHONE.
Just got a new Desire (ordered it ages ago but had to wait for the delivery with Super LCD) and sometimes, but not every time, I see that the battery drops anywhere between 7-9 percent moments after disconnecting the charger.
I'm curious whether anyone else has had this. Is this a calibration thing, or a problem with the phone, or the battery? Or an app? I'm using both Battery Indicator and JuicePlotter and they both show the same thing, the same drop. Curiously JuicePlotter tells me the drop sometimes occurs once or twice while charging in the night, too.
I'm a bit loathe to send it back to the shop after waiting well over 6 weeks for the thing in the first place, so I thought I'd check here first. I'm hoping it's just teething issues and will balance out in a few days. I got the phone about 4 days ago.
I've only just noticed an issue that after disconnecting from wifi my phone doesn't automatically go back to 3G/2G. I have to turn the wifi back on and when it can't find one only then does it decide to connect to 3G/2G. Didn't have this issue before and I'm thinking the latest update (1.31.405.5) has something to do with it.
Anybody else having similar issues? BTW I'm on the vodafone UK network.
