When I got my phone replaced the guy at the verizon store didn't wait long enough for my phone to sync contacts, so he took the contacts from the old phone and put them on my new one, then google synced my contacts so I had 2 of them all. I went through and deleted all the doubles, tried to sync a few times and gmail wouldn't change, so I went to gmail and merged all the doubles so everything was perfect, but my phone wouldn't sync the contacts from gmail. So finally I just manually added the ones I needed to my phone.
A few days later gmail finally updated and now has half my normal contacts(only what was on my phone). I saved a backup of my old contacts from gmail, so I can get all my contacts back on my gmail account, but how do i make it so my phone get the contacts from gmail? Basically I want to delete all the contacts on my phone and save the ones from gmail on it, but it seems that the phone is "in charge" by that I mean gmail copys what contacts are in the phone, instead of the phone copying from gmail.
When I try to sync my contacts with Google it always says an error with sync, something like sync is down. My calendar syncs fine but my contacts have never been able to sync since I had my phone in November.
Go to menu>settings>applications>manage applications>contacts storage and then delete the data. I backed up my Google contacts on line first by exporting the file just in case. (Not a bad idea anyway, this way you'll have an Excel database with all your contact in case anything should ever happen to your phone). Then resync. It will all go back in without a problem.
I noticed that the file is about 1/2 the size now and I think that's because I didn't sync up all the Facebook data back yet (no photos matching to people, etc.). but I think I'll make sure it all syncs continuously again first, then try adding back in the Facebook info. So far two of the problems were solved by deleting old data (I didn't want to do a factory reset after getting 2.1 just where I wanted it except for the few glitches).
I have a long list of Google Contacts and only want to sync a subset of them to my Droid Eris. So, I created a "Phone" group in Google Contacts. Then on my Droid Eris (back when it was running 1.6) I was able to go "People" -> "Groups" -> "Menu" (or something like that) and select the "Phone" group as the only group from Google Contacts that would sync with my Droid Eris. Worked perfectly.
Now, after the 2.1 update I no longer have that option! I thought, "Maybe the option controls migrated somewhere else." I tried going "Menu" -> "Settings" -> "Accounts & Sync" -> "Google" and found nothing there as well. How can I just sync the "Phone" group from my Google Contacts with my Droid Eris which is now running 2.1?
my google calendar and my gmail sync fine, but contacts gets the spinning wheel that never stops. Is there any way to fix this without rebooting and wiping everything off of my phone? How do you even reboot anyway? Other than this issue (I'm on 2.1, not rooted or anything) everything on the phone works just fine.
I seem to be having a sync issue with my Droid. When I add a contact to my phone, it doesn't sync into "My contacts" in Gmail; it'll sync into "All contacts". So, a couple of questions:
1) How can I get the phone to add new contacts created on my Droid into "My contacts" in Gmail?
2) I'm trying to understand the point of "All contacts". Why does Gmail want to keep a list of anyone that I've ever sent an email to? Otherwise, it'll be simple enough to just merge the two groups and call it a day.(Note: When I bought my Droid I did NOT have the VZW sales person transfer my contacts or any data from my old Blackberry to my Droid. I used Google Sync on my BB and synced my contacts from my BB to Gmail, then when I got the Droid, it automatically pulled my contacts from Gmail.)(FWIW, yes, I did a search and found two great threads: http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting/15042-how-do-i-push-droid-contacts-back-gmails-my-contacts.html and http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/15069-contacts-dont-really-synchronize.html but I have a different situation than most of those guys and I'd actually prefer to sift through and merge a couple of contacts from "All contacts" to "My contacts" every once in a while than deal with a backup and factory reset.)
My google contacts do not seem to be syncing. The contacts I enter on the android that are new do not show up in my gmail account under contacts. I figured this out the hard way when 2 new numbers did not show up after a clean wipe a week ago. Only the 2 new ones were missing and the starred in android doesn't show accurate contacts, missing 4 that are in my main contact section but starred in the phone by me.
I have searched but I wanted to ask specific to DX to make sure I wasn't missing something simple. Google Contact Groups don't appear in my contacts on the DX regardless of sync. One of the group names I created did transfer over and Organization name.
I cannot sort the contracts by group on my phone. I either have all or none. Did I do something wrong (most likely yes, this was much easier in the BB world)? Am I missing a step, this appears to be a problem on all Android OS. So do I need an app to fix this?
Found a perfect program for syncing my Google Contacts with their facebook account pictures (without using the sh*tty facebook app sync)..thought I'd share incase it hasnt been mentioned.Google Contact Sync | Heart of Angel..Worked perfect for me, especially if you make sure that your google contact names match the facebook names
I can't stand the fact that the Facebook app automatically adds my Facebook friends to my contact list, but they don't show up when I open the People icon, only when I'm choosing the contacts to send or forward a text to.I want to be able to sync the contacts I have with their Facebook profile, but I don't want Facebook automatically adding contacts to my phone. And I can't just diasble auto-sync because there are programs that apparently need it running. The only other option I can think of is to completely remove Facebook from my phone and that's bullsh*t.I know it sounds confusing, but does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? It woulddn't be such a problem, but now when I go to pick my contacts to forwards to, I have hundreds of contacts instead of the 95 or so I had before.
I decided I wanted to delete my gmail account on my Droid Eris and add my primary gmail account. ex. went into managae apps and cleared data for account1 @gmail .com, then I reset up my phone with account2 @gmail.com. I just realized by clearing data, I deleted all of my contacts off of my phone. Luckily I went online and checked firstname.lastname@example.org to see that all of my contacts were still there. How do I get them back onto my phone? Do I need to transfer the contacts from this account to email@example.com? And how do I transfer them? Simply, how do I get my contacts into account2, my primary gmail account on my droid eris, and also back onto the phone?
I upgraded last night to 2.1 and while I'm annoyed at the superficial loss of settings, what is really annoying me is the automatic sync to google. I don't need my phone to sync my contacts, in fact I'd prefer that it did not.
So, in Settings - Accounts & sync, I unchecked Auto-sync. But I am getting that annoying message in the notification bar all the time that says "Too many Contacts deletes"
i use google contacts to sync my personal numbers to my phone but for some reason everytime i email someone from somewhere like craigslist that anonymous address is saved to my contacts? wtf? how do i stop this?
My wife's phone - which is a ZTE Blade running 2.2 - is losing it's favorites in the contacts manager each time it syncs to Google Contacts.
I looked up her Google Contacts [URL] and there is no "Starred in Android" group, as it should be. I think it should be automatically created when she fovorites a contac in her phone. But instead, it deletes the starring of the contacts in the phone each time it syncs.
I think one big advantage the Eris has over the Motorola Droid is the ability to easily sync your Outlook from your PC to the phone, without using Google or your Gmail account. I'm old school and don't like the idea of all my stuff being in Google's hands.
There is a little learning curve to this so here it is step by step to save you some time.
1.Gmail contacts/mail. The reps at the Verizon store and Best Buy have been trained to get you set up on Gmail before you leave the store, either on your existing account or starting you out with a new one. If you have an existing account there is one caveat. Gmail creates contacts for you from email addresses automatically if you really want them as "contacts" or not. If you do NOT want all these people in your phone contact list (found under the "People" ap by the way then delete them in Gmail before you set up the account. You can do this by clicking the "Contacts" link in the left column, hitting select all in the middle, and delete. You can also selectively delete then and or/sort them here. If you already have all these contacts in your phone and want to get rid of them on the device go to the People ap, then hit the menu key, then delete contacts, then menu key again, then select all, then delete. I would also point out if you want to avoid the phone picking up your Gmail contacts in the future go to the settings menu, data synchronization, and Google and there you can uncheck syncing with Gmail contacts and Google calendar too for that matter.
2.Get the sync software from HTC. Its not in the box and there is no mention of it in the Tips and Tricks guide (the only documentation that comes with the phone. It does get a description in chapter 9.3 in the full user guide (available here: http://member.america.htc.com/download/web_materials/Manual/DROID_ERIS_Verizon/DROID_ERIS_Verizon_English_UM_11_5.pdf)
The link for the software is here. (note this is only on the HTC US site.) On that page are the instructions on how to install it so I won't go into that. But its important to note to install the software before you connect your phone to the computer. HTC Sync Update 2.0.8 for DROID ERIS
3.Using the HTC Sync. Once the software is running and you phone has been found and recognized by Windows you will notice the buttons in the software don't do anything. You will see Synchronize Now and Sync Manager. The is because you now have to tell the phone what to do which is different from most sync managers. On the phone there is a notification bar - the very top bar with the icons showing your network, wifi, battery etc. That's actually a pull-down. Touch and hold there and when you see the grey bar appear below it drag that down. Now you will see "USB connected" and "HTC Sync". You can also get to this by hitting the menu button and notifications. If you touch USB Connected you will to another menu which will "mount" the phone as a drive on your computer - this is how you will then drag and drop items to the SD card in the phone. Docs, music, videos whatever. If you hit the HTC Sync button you will really be connecting the phone to the computer for syncing. On the phone you will get a sync now menu and on the computer you will see your HTC Sync has changed with the prior two buttons lit up and another button added "Application Loader"
The first time you do this you will get the Sync Manager settings dialog asking what you want to sync and from where. Be sure to hit the properties button to set these selections as you want. I had a problem initially getting my Outlook calendar to sync. If this happens to you under properties deselect "default calendar folder" and set the folder yourself to calendar - mine had defaulted to contacts which is why the calendar didn't come in the first time.
On my Droid Eris (just updated to Android 2.1), I have taken advantage of 2.1 offering support for multiple Gmail accounts. So I have 3 Gmail Accounts in the Gmail app. My question pertains to how Android syncs the contact lists (which include many of the same contacts) from these 3 separate accounts. Will I end up with dozens of duplicate contacts? If so, is there a workaround? Also, is there an easier way to switch between different Gmail accounts? E.g., in the Gmail app, you have to go to Menu then Accounts, which is inefficient. The built-in mail app displays a list of accounts when you open it (an ideal approach), but I would prefer to not open my Gmail accounts in the default mail app.
I cleaned up my contact list, rearranged and merged a few etc etc but now those changes are not trickling down to my phone over wifi or 3g. It has been a week and still no luck. Even if I manually sync, I still do not see the changes...
I have a Droid Eris and a Macbook. I use iCal religiously and want to find a way to sync my iCal with Google Calendars. I used to use a program called Calgoo Connect, but that is no longer effective. Does anyone know of some freeware download?
I just noticed that my Google calendar isn't automatically syncing with my phone despite the fact that I have it set to sync automatically. I enter new appointments on my computer and it isn't until I go in and actually ask the phone to sync that the appointments show up. Anyone else noticed this? Any fix? I've been through all the settings and can't seem to find a setting to set it to sync for specific time intervals (every hour, or once a day, etc.). Anyone else find this setting?
I'm getting an error in the settings->data synchronization->google->contacts...it's saying that "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." It hasn't worked since Monday and I don't know what's going on.
I did my update manually earlier today without any problems (all of my contacts were Google).I have a question for my sister's though:How do you convert all of your Phone contacts to Google contacts? I don't want to do the .csv backup and all that just sync all Phone and Google contacts to Google. The reason is because when Verizon transfers your numbers, they get saved as Phone contacts but from what I understand, the update only re-syncs your Google contacts. So is there a quick/easy way to do this? She is not very tech-savvy.I just want to make sure she does this before she upgrades,so she doesn't lose all of her phone numbers.
First night I got my evo, my first android phone, I was just going over the settings, seeing what control I had in the OS etc. I went into running applications and clicked on gmail and forced it to stop ("until you start it again" from what it said). Since then I have not been able to get push gmail to my evo. I've cleared the data and cache from manage applications to both gmail storage (or something) and gmail. How to get true push email again!
2nd question: I transferred my IPhone contacts into a .csv that I uploaded on my gmail contacts. I synced them from my gmail to my evo. But everytime I go into phone, it only shows me 3-4 contacts compared to the 300+ I synced from my gmail. How can I transfer them from my gmail account, onto my phone?
Not sure if this is because I'm rooted, since I'm pretty sure I did that around 9/5. My calendar and mail sync perfectly, but the contacts section tells me it is experiencing problems. I'm running fresh ROM latest with netarchy kernel.
When I look Accounts and sync settings on my AT&T Note, is shows my Google account in red. Under the Google account Contacts shows the ! and states Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly. It's been a very long time.
