HTC Droid Eris :: Facebook Login Under Social Networks Settings
Dec 11, 2009
I received my wife's Eris last night and was setting it up for her. For some reason it wouldn't let me log into her facebook under the social network settings. She wanted to do this so she can see birthdays and have contacts connected with their fbook profiles. It would not let me log her in. It says that the service is currently unavailable. I can log her into the android facebook widget and the mobile site but not this. I started messing around with my Eris to see if I could figure out what is wrong. I logged myself out and now I am getting the same message. I have been using this setting since day one with no problems. My wife has the update and I do not yet. Has anyone else ran into this issue.
You can not turn off the twitter update on the eris. You can turn off facebook and flickr updates all together. Anyone know how to address this of if HTC is aware of this bug. I use Seesmic for twitter because peep is ok but kind of lacking on any usefull features and peep is always running in the background no matter if you even kill it.
On my phone I have the Facebook app downloaded from the market. I also noticed that the phone comes bookmarked with Facebook.
So here is my question, under Menu>Settings>Social Network> Facebook appears there. I have that set to update every 12 hours.
HOWEVER, my actual Facebook App is set to update every 2 hours.
So... does the settings under Menu>Settings>Social Network>Facebook control my facebook app or just the bookmark that comes pre-installed on the phone?
I am trying to save battery life, and I noticed that the settings under Menu>Settings>Social Network>Facebook were set to update every hour, but I had the settings under the downloaded app to update every two hours. My goal is to have only one facebook medium updating so I don't drain battery life!
To access the wireless at my university the network is 'open' but you have to sign in (personal user name and pass) via a login webpage prior to actually being connected to the wifi. It's kind of annoying to have to do this every time instead of the phone just connecting to the network. So two options that I am wondering would be possible:
1. best case, somehow it can automatically sign into the network once it is detected (e.g. run a script which enters login/pass to webpage)
2. at least have the user name and pass remembered (i cant figure out how to have it remember logins).
I should note, I have disabled cell tower data transfer (reason I bought the nexus one so I didn't have to pay $30 a month when wifi is everywhere!). So accessing wifi is the only way I get data connection; hence the importance of directly/automatically connecting
I have been reading some posts so I am better informed when my D2 gets here in a few days. I have noticed some posts about facebook causing problems. Since I do use facebook and twitter alot can you all explain to me; 1. What exactly is going on when facebook messing up contact lists? 2. I have heard it mentioned a few times that the widgets for facebook and twitter are bad on the battery? Can someone elaborate on this since I am new to these android phones and also anything else I might want to look out for. If so I would be appreciative. Thanks to a situation in my life this phone has to last me at LEAST two years.
I retrieve a JSON list of contacts from a social network site. It contains firstname, lastname, displayname, data1, data2, etc...
What is the efficient way to quickly lookup my local phone contacts database and "match" them based on their name. Since there are firstname, lastname and displayname this can vary. What do you think, how can the best match be achieved?
Also how do I make sure I don't parse for each JSON item the whole database I want to avoide having JSON_COUNT x MOBILE COUNT steps
Cannot log into Facebook at all. Yes, I have the correct e-mail and password. What's the secret to login from an android phone? I can't even get to 'visit our Help Center'. WTF? Tried thru the browser and then the Facebook app. Actually you get to the same login page.
Hey see if yall can help me out. I don't like the Facebook widget because its so boring. Is there a fun app/widget out there that is better? Also, maybe one that integrates many social networking websites in one?
I kind a miss pin messaging on a blackberry is there social areas for Google talk? I lost a lot of friends coming from blackberry to android and they don't like using Google talk. And there is no way I am going back to blackberry.
there is a very annoying bug which keeps switching to the "Available networks" window in Settings spontaneously, whilst I am doing something else (e.g. Surfing the Internet, looking through mail, etc). Thus far, I have hard reset 3 times and also tried powering on and off the device a few times. I also tried to Force Close it, use Task Killer and stop the service, but none of these have worked. Can someone please help me out with a solution to this? I'm considering returning the phone now...as it's making the phone unusable...
When I had Android 2.3.3 I could create system shortcuts to various software functions, not just apps. I could one-touch navigate to various settings in Device Settings, I could do other things, in particular navigate to Wireless Networks quickly to choose network fast.
With Android 4.2, I can't do that it seems and I am left with upper drop-down menu. Any way around that to make my access to Wireless Networks settings faster? Even, better it would be to have access to various system settings as described above.
I noticed on my Motorola Milestone 2.1, that ADHOC networks doesn't appear on the regular wifi settings , I cannot connect to my laptop for internet sharing (notebook to phone) Anyone noticed this problem or is it me?
I've had this phone since Tuesday and it's not made it from morning to night one time. I am using it, yes, but I thought that was the point. My usual routine is wake up, check the twitter/facebook feeds, log in and check email, browse a few web pages, and get moving. today, i did all of that and took a walk and listened to a cd for an hour on the doubletwist player. i took a single photo. and made one very short phone call. it is nearly dead. it's been off the hook since 830 and it's only 3. I could do all this minus the music playing part on my blackberry, which was ancient 8830 and i would still have juice by midnight tonight. and it should be noted, blackberry constantly pushed my email--i have k9 set to manual, as i do with the facebook and twitter/social media widget. so that instantaneous access that's supposed to be so useful and exciting--i don't have it.
i've done all the usuals, turned off the bluetooth, the wifi radio, the 4g radio (the whole point of the damn phone), lowered screen brightness to the very lowest number, making it totally useless in bright daylight and i mean completely useless-can't see to answer a damn call), i have the screen lock to 15 seconds. i have the autosyncing off, i have the whole phone crippled, and it's about to die. does anyone have any suggestions? i was using launcher pro, but want to go back to the standard touchwiz--only bummer is i can't swap out the messaging icon for handcent which i installed over the regular msging app--because ppl said it uses less battery drain-- but not sure how to disable the old one. i am using live wallpapers, but again, how much of a drain can they really be overall? i turned off the animations, is this a lemon? will rooting make it better? will the new upcoming os make it better? or is 6 hours of usage all i can expect? srsly, i would like to know, because if that's the case, i will go back to the blackberry. i don't care how fancy the phone is, if you can't use all the fun things without it dying, then what's the point?
Ok what I want is for whenever I move from one place or another ...maybe driving 30 mins or an hour the weather automatically updates to that location without me having to manually refresh.what do I need to turn on for that in the location services
"Use Wireless Networks/Mobile Networks" Location determined by wifi and or mobile networks "Location Settings" Allow network to detect your position "Enable GPS Satellite" requires more battery
These are the three options I can check...the first one is checked right now.if I check the second one will it update the weather automatically or is the first one all that is required and it says the battery will be drained in the third option but what about the 2nd option.
I'm having an issue with my wifi not connecting. I have to AP's in my house, on different channels. They work perfectly fine. I have the wifi toggle setting on the home screen that I usually press to toggle the wifi on/off. Recently, it hasn't been working after I disconnect from 3G and connect to wifi. It says the wifi is turned on, but it won't connect to either of the remembered APs. The only way to get it to automatically connect is to go to settings and view the list of APs. Only then will it connect to one of the two APs. This is really annoying, as it seemed to only start this recently and nothing has changed. My wifi sleep policy is never to turn off. It's a droid eris with 2.1 OTA. Ran a virus scan, nothing. Any ideas?
Did the latest update and ever since I cannot log Into Facebook whilst connected to mobile data. IF I try via WiFi it works fine. Even if I use the browser instead of the app it reports that I'm trying to connect with an ip address that's associated with 'abuse'.
I develop facebook application in android. i want to log in to facebook via HTTPClient , teh user give me username and password and then i connect to facebook.com/login. i want to make like this code http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1409220/facebook-getting-incorrect-signature-104-when-getting-session-key/1795229#1795229. but in android, i tried to do that but when i get the session, a XML contain invalid parameter returned
I rooted my galaxy note 3 a few months ago with kingo root on the stock ROM and while everything appears to work well..every time I try to login to any game i usually play with my Facebook it appears to load up the Facebook box but flashes and disappears.
